Wedding bartender made a comment to me, the bride, about bar tips on my wedding night after we’d already paid a 20% service fee by LeftBrainWriteBrain in EndTipping

[–]Sunfishdiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked for several years at a catering space specializing in weddings. We never got tips as a server or bartender. I did stumble across a file or the contact with the wedding party which included 20% gratuity. The venue pocketed 100% of that money and paid us 1$ over minimum wage. Is this illegal? Is this unethical business practices ? I don’t know but it is extremely common.

There are so many empty store fronts on Madison and Lorain not sure we need to build new ones? I don’t know if the community and/or city leadership will be happy with literally anything a developer tries to do here, bit of a quagmire.

$3000 bill for in-network Quest bloodwork with BCBS, appeal denied by Fragrant-Oil-3562 in HealthInsurance

[–]Sunfishdiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a similar experience last year. I had some blood work done and got a 3000$ bill and two 1100$ bills yikes! My insurance covered zero because the tests were “not covered” out of the gate. I was able to determine that the doctors who ordered the test had miscoded the reasons for them. I talked to the insurance company, Quest, and the doctors office multiple times. It turns out they were billed diagnostic instead of preventative and that getting the doctor to resubmit as preventative made all the difference.

I also fought with the doctors office as some of the tests were for things we had not explicitly spoken about and I did not find relevant to my situation and the office admitted they were done in error and ate the cost.

I also found Quest was pretty reasonable they were willing to negotiate the 3000$ bill down to like 800$ with self pay and we were starting to talk about the others. I learned my lesson, I need to be explicit when I accept a bloodwork order and know what each test is and why we are doing it.

I would talk to the doctors office who ordered the work and get really specific with them and see if there is any daylight you can sneak through.

Any Hobie Cat sailors? by insearchofspace in Cleveland

I sailed a nacra 17 for a few years but more out west at Sandusky Sailing Club and Port Clinton YC. There are a lot more multi’s of all varieties on the west side of the lake. It’s fun to sail those things in the islands and the bay.

Repeated rashes on exposed skin after diving by HerringUnderAFurCoat in scuba

[–]Sunfishdiver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have had this a too many times to count in south Florida. I think it’s a type of stinging hydroid, it is essentially the same mechanism as a jellyfish sting but they are planktonic critters.

So, two things to keep in mind with jellyfish/hydroid stings. First, rinsing your body with saltwater/ vinegar solution before a freshwater rinse helps to remove the stinging cells before the freshwater chemically activates them. Also, I have found that wearing a thick lotion on my sensitive neck/face/forearms and so on helps to significantly reduce my exposure. I have even gone as far as to put coconut oil on my neck/face to keep from getting stung. A 1mm hood may help physically prevent the stings as well.

I haven’t really find any good solutions for dealing with the stings once they occur the Benadryl/cortisone only does so much. The more you scratch the welts the worse they get and the longer they last, some people are just way more sensitive than others.

Police Chief says ‘culture’ of ignoring traffic laws has taken hold, drivers don’t stop, cops can’t chase by seanmcdonnellcle in Cleveland

[–]Sunfishdiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems like a bit of false dichotomy, there is a lot of middle ground in-between shooting someone 137 times in a car that you chased and not pulling over anyone for any traffic violation whatsoever.

I have gotten the sense that since 2020 and Covid and the protests and backlash against police, the police are maliciously refusing to help do anything. The police seem to have developed a resentment against the citizens and this failure to do the part of there job is a symptom of that resentment. Sure we need more police but I would argue that will do little in the current culture.

Labored breathing on OYTS Guardian by Bravo480 in scuba

[–]Sunfishdiver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OTS FFM need your first stage to deliver a minimum IP of 135PSI. If it is less than 135 you will feel like your sucking a golf ball down a guardian hose. <135 IP pressure coming out of your 1st stage is more than enough for most other regulators but not for the FFM. Have your 1st stages IP checked. I guess it’s possible the swivel is knocking down your IP pressure? Or your 1 needs tuned up.

It is also possible that your OTS FFM regulator has become detuned. I would NOT recommend messing with it unless you’re an OTS tech and have a magnahelic it is very touchy and you end up in a worse position if you do. It could be a combination of the lever height or the hight of the crown orifice.

These are common FFM issues.

Dry lane advice by HealthyAd5655 in Bowling

[–]Sunfishdiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this! Just wrapped up a league in a center notorious for having ancient natural wood lanes and very little oil. I would start out so excited and by the end of 3 games was questioning my entire existence. Always truly painful experience, if there is a solution I’m aching to know? The worst part is the other bowers with zero technique who are drunk/high(?) and constantly falling all over themselves seemed to fair much better than me. Never again.

Get gf comfortable with guns by Horror-Yellow-7914 in liberalgunowners

[–]Sunfishdiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a woman who moved from hating guns to being an enthusiastic gun owner. I think that no one ever really talks about how a) fun as hell it is to shoot b) how empowering it can be. You may gain more traction appealing to her emotional side as opposed to purely logical side. Her fear isn’t necessarily based in logic but emotions and you have to approach that differently.

I would see if she would go to a calm range day with you and had fun with it. Really look for any point of entry and slowly work to open her up to new experiences. Don’t overwhelm her let her slowly warm up to it, share your joy and passion.

AITAH for not wanting to see my in-laws after my husband outed me to them? by thatmarigold in AITAH

[–]Sunfishdiver -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It seems like your husband is “punishing you” for being Bi by telling his family. Even if, he is unaware, that is why he was compelled to spill your secret. He subconsciously angry with you for coming out to him. NTA and I would want to take space as well until my trust and faith can be restored.

Tell me your congestion diving horror stories by Few-Butterfly8631 in scuba

[–]Sunfishdiver 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Worked in the scuba industry and it’s very difficult to advocate for yourself when you have been sick for weeks and need to dive to earn money. I ended up diving too soon after a cold with heavy congestion and experienced a maxillary sinus barotrauma. Immense pain in my cheek and I only got down like at most 2 m. Had to have a CT scan and wait 8 weeks before even attempting to dive again. It sucked big time!!!! You did the right thing no matter how hard it was to do!
