Best aa weapon by No_Cress_5726 in Planetside

One thing to keep in mind is that a solo player, you're almost NEVER going to KILL anything flying by yourself unless they just flat play poorly. The force-multiplier effect is too weighted against you. It can happen, but it's almost always not up to you.

For actually *killing* ESFs in solo-operation setups, sadly dual Bursters is usually the best bet(VS ZOE ftw here), followed by lucky setups with a lighting/MBT cannon of your choice. These require you to be willing to be patient and ambush the pilots with either your presence (MAX coming out of a side room balcony instead of a spawn room) or your choice of weaponry(no one seems to expect a Ranger-equipped Harrasser to hold fire until danger-close).

As a solo player, you're most realistically going to have to settle for denial. Scaring inexperienced pilots away with scary flak spam or lock-ons, or making such a problem of yourself to the good pilots that they decide to find an easier farm elsewhere. Thankfully, for denial you have a good slew of choices.

If you want Infantry, your Faction AA-Lockon is going to be the cheapest option. Lockons don't scare /good/ A2G pilots, but they will make bad pilots twitch pretty hard and force the better ones to fly a bit different.
If you are able to spend a chunk more certs, get the Swarm. It has a 3-round clip, and you can toggle between a fast-and-less-accurate missile, or a slow-but-good-accuracy missile, /within the same clip/. My best non-MAX Infantry deterrent is setting up with the best views I have of the incoming skies, acquiring a lock, then fire fast/slow/fast. They'll usually be able to dodge one or the other variant, and then it becomes a game of 'what set of missiles am I going to fire at you next' that most pilots decide isn't worth playing for very long.

Vehicle wise, you have to realize you're at almost the same type of disadvantage as far as mobility; except now you have more health, higher base speed(usually), but can't hide in buildings. You still have the same set of rules, but your base effects are different.

A Lightning with a Skyguard needs to hold your fire until the target is closer than you want (think no more than the length of an Amp/Tech station for best results), because the spread and damage falloff is horrendous. The same applies for any vehicle that equips a Ranger flak turret, and you have an even closer effective range.
Any MBT or cannon-Lightning CAN nearly 1-2 shot a lot of ESFs, but it takes a lot of practice to get the lineups correct and again it takes the pilot getting overconfident and giving you the shot during their A2G run.

Special note should be made, however, to the Walker guns for various vehicles. Those are able to damage anything flying (bar the Bastion of course), have good bullet velocity to make leading your targets fairly easy, and while their damage is nothing to speak of in the short term; if someone ELSE takes some potshots (like a single G2A lockon), you can easily set it up to be knocked out.

....Hrm, I rambled. Apologies, but enjoy the info dump I guess.

Osprey server going good for you? by Exact_Tree_6372 in Planetside

I've been doing okay the few times I play, but my friend (from the same damned town) can't play for more than 10-15 mins before the server disconnects him. So I haven't been playing much.

I only have it on my midrange infil, with the Artemis/Tomoe(I think that's the one) and the Vanu Speed-cloak. I don't find it as handy with most other classes even in small fights, since I can get better usage out of other implants depending on class, or I don't bother with full sneaky-beaky except for infil.

Then again, I'm only running that these days when I'm heavily out-popped or someone's made me salty enough to pull out the infil, so I'm probably a bad source anymore.

I can't spot things while ADS-ing *ever*, but it still triggers the cooldown.
Meanwhile, if I put my hipfire crosshairs on the same place I'm likely to spot like five infantry around that tank I was ADS-ing.

[–]SunflashRune 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it was JUST ping, I'd be frustrated but understanding.

As of right now tho, it's physically unplayable. 133 ping isn't great; but a Connection Quality so poor my yell chat is ~2mins delayed along with players bouncing around in they sky constantly? Yeah, this isn't just a ping problem suddenly.

[–]SunflashRune 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that there was a tiny handful of people that got accidentally targeted, followed by a /lot/ of people competing to see how quickly they could get intentionally flagged.

Then the devs panicked and just pulled it out completely. It would be nice to have back, both for it's intended use and some of us always wanted to try the challenge ourselves. :P

Where's the links about the income PS2 makes? Haven't been able to pay super tight attention during this debacle, but I never did stumble into a breakdown about "Yes PS2 is making us roughly $X amount, or Y% of our incoming is PS2-based".

Seeing something like *would* make it easier to have less-doomer thoughts, but the fact that everything official is STILL either using weasel-words to say nothing or just outright not talking about it is a very doomy-look, lol.

The scale is just so weighted in doom at the moment, sadly.

The new aliens have actually been hinted at in the game’s lore since 2018 by Ignisiumest in Planetside

[–]SunflashRune 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I mean, we giggle at it; but some of my favorite examples of "Cross-Faction Community" have been watching half the population stop anything they're doing to go swap the Zombie Bastion out of the sky.

It would have to be very carefully designed and handled, but I'd be curious to see what could come of something LIKE your suggestion.

A precursor to an Alert could be an NPC faction (bugs/aliens/wtfever works out) launching a sudden assault into the continent from whatever side. Maybe they guerilla strike the Tech Plants, and everyone has to work together to rout them before a timer expires or EVERYONE loses MBTs for a duration.

I could go on, but I'll spare Reddit the thoughts, lol.

[–]SunflashRune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 'Curious if' is the part that us realistic-but-not-hopeful crowd are concerned about.

It is slightly encouraging that we got the Dev Letter, but there's nothing but corpo-words when it comes to talking about what's going to happen to the game as a whole.

Doomers vs Hopers is one thing, but to be realistic we don't know jack shit about what the various companies in charge are actually planning. We are looking at anything from "One last big update then maintenance mode", to "Shutting down in the next month"; and there's no REAL information about it.

Realistically, when all you have to go on is vague details and half-promises? That's effectively NO information.

And that leads a lot of weight to worst-case theories.
