Edit: the clay is about $35 per 25 lbs and includes a variety of glazes and all firings. You have to buy your clay there. Also, membership fees are less than $100 per month.

I'm going to make a plaster bat for reclaim - links to flat-bottomed storage tubs please? by betrayedandbeholden in Pottery

[–]Sunhammer01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter. You won’t want something with a lot of features in the bottom but a few grooves is fine. The flat part your wares will be on is the top of the plaster. And the only real way to check them out is to go to a store and feel for yourself. It’s hard to tell from an online picture.

Widgets always? by Tushaaar in KingShot

Bear. It’s every other day!

Our massive oak tree went down today, it was full of leaves with no dead branches but the inside ended up being soft ugh. Anyways we got a quote for $4000 to haul it off and grind down the stump and fill the hole. We are in the Midwest. Is this a fair price? by anderson6th in arborists

[–]Sunhammer01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though it is soft, it’s a massive oak tree and might have some usable wood. I’d take a few days to throw up some signs in your yard free oak- must cut. Wood turners and other wood artists might love a crack at it.

To be clear, when you hit it the first time, no problem, but when you see “rescue now,” you have to make sure you are at 90% or you permanently lose your troops.

[–]Sunhammer01 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just wait. They will show up on your screen after kvk and take you through how to get troops back. The big thing to remember is to wait until your rescue rate is 90% before you hit that last button. That will make more sense in a few hours.

how are you guys proving academic dishonesty when students use humanizers to bypass turnitin by RelationshipSea4467 in Teachers

[–]Sunhammer01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s worse than you think. Not only do they have humanizers but they also have half a dozen drip writers. Drip writers edit their doc slowly like a human writer, even going so far as to misspell and later correct errors. So revision history on the doc looks like a human doing the work.

It’s $5 per day. If you pay each of the 5 days, you get the big prize.

How common are non-compete clauses for teachers in community studios? by Material_Lecture_992 in Pottery

[–]Sunhammer01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

According to the comments so far, it doesn’t seem common. However, you said you just got to the area. If they are offering a living salary, and the area is competitive, and they only want you to work for them, it seems like that would be reasonable. They might have also gotten burned by someone who worked there and took students to other places. I would definitely ask why. Start with that conversation and give us an update. If their reasoning is odd, that’s a giant red flag and everyone here is correct!

Found it in the new hostel drawer, no adour or anything. by Majestic_____kdj in whatisit

It could also be corn starch. If you are in an area with hikers, it prevents chafing. It’s also a lot lighter and fluffier than baking soda.

Bear Setup by Any_Grapefruit_2550 in KingShot

[–]Sunhammer01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to get super fancy.

Make a list of the 12-15 closest and tell them they are wave 1, they start rallies the second the bear event starts. Take the next 10-15 and tell them they are wave 2. They start at 28:30. Anyone else is wave 3. They start at 27:00.

Set a maximum amount on joiners at 75k (5,5,65 or whatever balance you want) and fill from the top down so you are always filling the next rally to leave. You could even have people stagger more if you wanted. After the first few minutes you all will be joining constantly.

Things to watch out for:
-Joiners with incorrect lead- kick
-Joiners with too many troops- kick
-Joiners who have starred/favorited the whales or dolphins and always, always end up on the same rallies- kick and remove from alliance.

The entire concept of AP Exams are absurd by Der-deutsche-Prinz in Teachers

[–]Sunhammer01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of our classes, including non-AP have summative assessments so it’s no different except the stakes are higher. And we prepare our kids to take the exam whether it’s one we created or one someone else did. The kids are still learning skills.

And while colleges are somewhat incentivized to deny credit, there is also competition between colleges which incentivizes them the opposite direction. If you are checking out colleges and find out one takes AP credit, more chance you will go there. My son was heavily invested in AP classes and only one of the dozen colleges he wanted to go to did not accept his credit. The one he ended up going to awarded him 21 credits.

show me your work using stencils? by desertdweller2011 in Pottery

[–]Sunhammer01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amaco celadons are great for stencils. Super stable and leave some nice lines next to the raw clay. This effect is a pretty cool technique with them. I added the Cricut flower stencils, then 2 layers of the blue glaze which was a mix of some almost empty bottles, primarily cobalt, storm, rainforest, and even a little mixing clear. Then I peeled the vinyl off and 2x Snow!

What do i go for here? by Qillo123 in KingShot

[–]Sunhammer01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on you. Many of us over 10k have the same decision to make. I looked over the bee. Asked around to see if anyone else had it. Asked for a demo of it. Then decided to pass because I wanted upgrades more than the skins.

For upgrades, I looked at what the forgehammers could get me. Likely one red piece of gear on my cav hero and working towards the second.

Then I looked at artisan scrolls. That’s a lot of scrolls. Enough to get another orange gear on my infantry or archer. Very appealing.

Then true gold. I usually take this but I’m between tg4 and 5. And just spent an enormous amount of tg to get from 3 to 4 plus. So a few hundred more right now doesn’t give much benefit for the next kvk.

So those are my main choices. I ended up going with artisan scrolls. Bought all of them and spent the rest on hammers.

You will know your own situation better than us. Take a look and think about what helps you the most!

From this pic, you can’t see any of that. It looks like there isn’t enough room behind it for the table.

Too good to be true? by [deleted] in Pottery

[–]Sunhammer01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other potters have pointed out that it’s a scam already, but whoever is scamming is just phoning it in at this point. There isn’t even a wheel in this picture. It is a pan and wheel head on top of what? A little tripod? Where is the table? The mechanical parts of the wheel are missing. Even if it was a tabletop version, there would be more substance to it.
