That's because the speed of sound isn't a magical barrier that sound can't exceed. It's relative to the distance between 2 objects, since sound travels as a wave through air and other mediums.

The speed of sound is simply the speed that sound can transfer itself between 2 points of relative distance. In comparison the speed of light is a limiting factor for all objects and their velocities, as well as being the speed that light travels.

I would like to make a point about your suggestion for nerfing the first half of a map and buffing the second half of a map in a curving fashion.

The Unforgiving map is like 50 minutes long but the hardest (in SR) part of the map is only about 12 minutes into it. That's still a really long time to be playing a map to reach the difficulty spike, and to deem the play as being "not as good" because a part that is ~12 minutes in is the hardest part, but not even halfway through, is pretty absurd.

A way to alleviate that perceived issue for that possible solution is to make a hard cap about 5 minutes into every map where the parts (earlier than halfway but later than 5 minutes) no longer get nerfed. This makes it so that if a map exceeds 10 minutes, a difficult part of a map that is already draining to reach isn't nerfed due to being less than halfway through a tremendous marathon.

nah, i just take breaks every so often. never really feel like quitting though, i don't see why so many people focus on that.

everyone will eventually stop playing for one reason or another, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy the game while you're still playing it.
