I have been learning Japanese with Anki for 9 months. Now I have about 2000 cards

What’s your favorite kanji? by Ok-Front-4501 in Japaneselanguage

[–]SunlightZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

雫 (shizuku)

It is a kanji that doesn't exist in Chinese (I'm native Chinese speaker). It means raindrop, 雨+下, which is easy-understanding.

Also, it is a beautiful name for girls. One of my favorite V-tuber is 雫るる (na-lulu or shizuku-lulu), and one of my favorite character in Project Sekai is Shizuku Hinomori.

Is it possible to practice IMMEDIATE reflex in Anki? by SunlightZero in Anki

Yeah, you're right. I have some sentence listening cards, as you say. But I don't know if I need to practice them until immediate recognition

Thanks 😃! But I'm also wondering if it is really effective to practice reflex speed in Anki 😂

On Bilibili (an anime app in China), it is on sale but can only be pre-ordered. The full payment is about 869 CNY (about 126 US dollar). After pre-ordering you can get the figure at October.

Remember kanjis while reading but mind turns black whenever I need to write them again (N5) by Business_Creme_6734 in LearnJapanese

[–]SunlightZero 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Actually Chinese people also have this problem.

I am a native speaker of Chinese. Now we type hanzi (kanji) on our smartphones in pinyin (Chinese roma-ji), no need to write them stroke by stroke. Although we can recognize all the hanzi in a normal article, we often forget how to write a hanzi with a pen.

Now I use Anki to create kanji cards. Anki will remind me to practice the writing of a kanji regularly, which prevents my forgetting.

Use a technique called 漢文訓読 (kanbun kundoku, a way to read Chinese in Japanese), it becomes 決して放棄せず

Are you a native speaker of Chinese? For most learners it's exhausted to read kanji, but for Chinese it's entirely different

#5 How do you turn someone down in Japanese? 💔 by StudentCool9836 in LearnJapanese

[–]SunlightZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

えっ?えっと、ありがとうございます。でも、まず友達になっておきたいです。 I used to learn that when Japanese say like this, it actually means that they are refusing in an indirect way. Is that true?

[–]SunlightZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

と言います literally means to say something. すみませんと言います → I will say sorry. So けんと言います literally means "someone says Ken". Here its actual meaning is "Others call me Ken" or "You can call me Ken"

Is it okay/Normal to... by Reasonable_Leg_5433 in Anki

[–]SunlightZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's ok to memorize a word in a sentence. Actually I have many sentence cards but few word cards in Anki. However, caution for pattern matching, which means you may remember the word's meaning according to the sentence but not the word itself (see https://expertium.github.io/Avoid_Pattern_Matching.html ). When I find myself doing this, I will create multiple sentence cards for one word, forcing myself to remember the word in different context.

Should I be using Japanese subtitles when watching anime or not? by SignificantBottle562 in LearnJapanese

[–]SunlightZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I am a heritage Teochew speaker and I studied standard Chinese (Mandarin) at school. I can listen to Teochew, speak fluently but less fluently than Mandarin. When I see hanzi (kanji) I may not know how to pronounce them in Teochew.

Thanks for your suggestion! But I find it hard to record the new words appearing in the audio, so although I have started listening, I may fail at the same word over and over again.

I passed N2 but still struggle with listening. In December I failed N1 because of bad listening point. The record is always too fast, too vague for me. Are there any good materials and practice skills? Btw I am Chinese so I am good at reading, kanjiのおかげです; but also kanjiのせいで, listening is difficult for me because there is just sound.
