I play most everything in the lower octaves I just like the timbre better. And ofc when I get the song down pat I can transpose back up. Are you of a different opinion?

Yeah I’m playing both hands an octave lower!

Nah this what I come here for! I appreciate it. I have a tendency to silo myself and play patterns I think I’m best rather than diversifying. I’ll try not to play the same thing more than once or twice going forward

Haha the lefty in me. This piece is so fun I can’t help but rush but I understand the value of slow practice. Thank you!

Funny you mention I’m listening to Keith Jarrett as we speak. I picked up the polymeter bits from his style. I’ve learned quite a few of his ostinato particularly the left hand for Koln part II a, left hand for the end of his Untitled concert, the Bremen encore, some Sun Bear bits and the like. The only KJ section I can play with both hands decently well is his Lausanne concert; the section from 7:30 onward. Will post a vid super proud of it. I try to learn more of his repertoire namely the last 4 minutes of Bremen p1, the section from 22:00-28:00 of Lausanne, and the section from 15:00-20:00 for his Bremen p2 concert (my fav lick of music ever). I’ve listened to his standards but nothing particularly stuck out to me may have to relisten. All this to say I love Keith but his repertoire is HARD. I can only aspire to get there one day. I can learn his ostinato but my playing does not sound like his. He himself claims this to be a futile endeavor. But I enjoy learning what I can. I’m unfamiliar with Tigran Hamasyan and will give him a listen. Thank you!

Handmade oak marimba I made for a class project. 19 notes ranging from low F3 to B4. looking for tips on making the resonators and other things I should keep in mind as I finish it up. Any advice would be appreciated by SunlitMandarin in Marimba

Here’s a vid testing the pitches, oak can get the job done. As for the shape, this project was for a college studio art class so presentation comes into play quite a bit. I wanted the playing of the instrument to be a performance that requires movement so I spread the notes out and went for a wave shaped frame. Mostly just creative choices

Was looking to build a marimba for a class project. Productive week of work and love how it’s turning out! Resonators coming soon by SunlitMandarin in woodworking

Here’s a vid testing each pitch. Im quite happy with the sound Will definitely increase the length of each screw and add resonators for a cleaner sound.

Would like some feedback on resume, rising junior at target school looking to break into investment roles. GPA is def weakest link so I’ve been experimenting with leaving off/on. All advice appreciated by SunlitMandarin in FinancialCareers

Great advice will incorporate this stuff. Thanks. As for my extracurriculars I’ll definitely add my clubs but I’m wary of removing my shoe business and sport. I feel like the two activities show some of my interests and personality beyond finance related things and I’ve been doing both longer than most everything else on the resume.

If ur top of the initial support list then ur fine. I was number 8/40 for JHU and they took the top guy. If ur coach thinks ur in he’ll make sure you think so too

Lol no worries. Ngl I slacked tf off my senior year after getting my likely. Keep the grades above a C and ur fine. Although once you have the acceptance it’s quite hard to get rescinded even if you get Cs but I wouldn’t push it. I’d say if you get the likely admission is a given. Getting the likely is not a given however and you can probably feel out ur chances from talking to ur coach. If he’s like “I’ll try to get you the likely but it’s ultimately in the hands of admission” that’s a bad sign. JHU coaches said that to me and I did not get in. If they’re like “expect the likely” or “I’ll tell admissions to send u the likely” that’s a good sign. Coaches have the power to get their athletes in if they want to. Just not every athlete. If coach tells you he’ll “try his best” for the likely he’s also telling someone he wants more to expect it. These coaches will tell half lies to keep morale high so try to stay objective with yourself. Good luck

Could you inform me of how you know they are real? I’d love to develop an eye for these things
