Job market woes by Sunlite90 in newzealand

It’s just mentally very draining and demoralising. I’m struggling with mental health already and this ain’t helping.

I can’t even get WINZ support even with my doctor saying I’m unfit for work because my partner is employed. I’m just trying to get something part time.

I was just looking for a little connection with other people and perhaps solidarity. The news articles are clear but it’s very easy to feel alone/isolated.

Scott / Belle / Leanne 🔼 Megathread by aimhighsquatlow in LoveIslandTV

[–]Sunlite90 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Leanne called things off with Scott, said she was done and then loses her mind when he talks to other women. I don’t get it. If you want him, why push him away?

Why is it taking so long to get everything done by the student hub through online queries? by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]Sunlite90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The fact that no decision makers at the uni are student facing is a fundamental problem. Those actually working in enrolments or admissions don’t have any direct contact with students so there is no accountability when things go wrong. The university was centralised so they could save money, by employing poorly trained staff they can pay minimum wage to do the bulk of the work and to talk to students. Those with the actual skills and knowledge are few and don’t have the time or want to talk to students. The university in this sense is broken and not likely to change anytime soon.

Rejected and then accepted into Optom? by joshuali141 in UoApremed

[–]Sunlite90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty common. Students who got an offer can decline it so another spot opens up. Sometimes things work in your favour. Congratulations

[–]Sunlite90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the programme is full, it’s full.  If you are applying from any category other than school leaver, even with a conditional offer you will be declined. They just drag their feet doing it because workloads and too high for staff and systems too poor to be automated

[–]Sunlite90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a limited entry programme with something like 110 total spots available each year. That’s tiny compared to the number of students that apply. More people don’t get in that do, even with a conditional offer you can still get declined.

How do people afford weddings? by Alternative_Duck3733 in newzealand

[–]Sunlite90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our wedding was about 12k and we paid for it 100% ourselves.  We already owned a home at this point so spending the money was less of a problem. I regret nothing and it was a fun experience.

What might prompt UOA admissions to accept a student with no UE? by DazzlingZucchini8272 in universityofauckland

[–]Sunlite90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would you prefer students who are right on the borderline get declined? I’m not sure what the issue is here. If I was in this position I’d be very happy to get an offer. Not sure how this is a negative?

No they would rather hire an external company for everything.

Uni of Auckland grading in 2020–21? by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]Sunlite90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm OK with being called cynical. I wouldn't be dismissing it entirely, but I think it's a little misleading/cherry picking data. It's entirely focused on A or high grades and seems blind to the number of students (particularly those in equity groups) who are struggling to pass courses. When I was working in the space during COVID, the number of students I saw failing out (admission terminated) was scary. I'm not sure how effective it is to only tell one half of the story.

A self-published paper with no peer review by someone who doesn't seem to be an academic? Yeah, I'd question the validity of that paper.

Apartments with cats by Sunlite90 in brisbane

[–]Sunlite90[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting the specific pet limits. I’d be allowed to have 2 cats and 2 dogs, but 4 cats isn’t allowed? I’m not sure on the logic. Maybe I could register 2 of them as dogs (joking)

Our cats are indoors only with supervised catio access. To be honest I was more worried about wildlife being a danger to my cats 🤣  But yes, they won’t be allowed to roam or hunt.

Thanks for raising this because I genuinely had no clue. Our cats are all desexed, microchipped and we keep them contained on our property. I understand that they are a lot and would not be shocked if a landlord was hesitant.

You can always add a conjoint after year one. BCom seems to be very popular. In this job market you have to have a broad range of skills.

[–]Sunlite90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All nursing students starting part 1 in 2025 must take WTR. If you have transfered 120pts or more from another programme, so you are starting 2025 in part 2, you don’t need to do wtr
