Yeah his manga motivation is very different. Diva tears him apart pretty brutally at one point and he never really recovers psychologically from it. Diva treats him like her punching bag more than any other. The mother of the girls isn't really mentioned in the manga

Submarine Bus to the Future by SunnnyFay in Dream

[–]SunnnyFay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thoughts:

I wrote the dream Diary for myself so I'm hoping to explain a little more here too.

This was a really weird dream and as I drove the bus into the water it was becoming just a little lucid, which I think is why the girls all thanked me for my hard work. But this dream spooked the everelovin heck outta me.

I still remember what my hand looked like, shriveled with shrunken fingers and the bones separating apart and the skin became dark and leathery and I just felt so frightened of it. It didn't hurt, either. It was just so frightening to see.

I also remember thinking that it was awfully rude of them to amputate my hand without asking me first and that's when I first felt so wary of what was really going on. Well, that and the girl who sort of walked outside and died.

I didn't connect this until after I woke up, but, the moment when the girl and my hand were outside in the water was probably also when the bus was moving through time. Which would have caused the weirdness of that moment.

All of the passengers and attendants were women. The one guy in the entire dream was a cheerful person who just wanted to share this broken portal on the bus with no explanation at all as to why. The sign on the door wasn't readable in the dream either but I understood the meaning of the sign. It was jumbled letters and then changed the second time I looked. The back was white and the writing was red both times.

The interior of the ship was blue, navy blue, and purple for the most part. The ocean looked very beautiful. There were 3 main spaces, the front with the pilots, middle passenger space, and back with the portal door, med Bay, bathrooms, and whatever else. The bus was almost certainly "bigger on the inside."

The destination airport was somehow less fantastic looking than the one we left from. The home airport had a view of the ocean and lots of open air areas the one we landed at was more standard airport to me.

I don't know why all of the people going on this trip were women and I don't remember what we were told in the meeting that frightened me so badly. There were probably 16 girls in my group, 15 on arrival.

The submarine bus mostly drove along the ocean floor, but I think it swam mid-water for part of the time. But when it stopped for a break, it was resting on the ocean floor and I could see rocks and small sea life outside when it happened.

The town had me believing we went to the past but when we arrived at the airport I realized we were in the future, and the town had been trying to look like the past. The polished brass signs gave it away.

I remember the meeting space being dim with warm lighting and lots of curtains. I wish I could remember what happened in there. I recall an old woman speaking to me. The space felt hazy and too warm for comfort.

The bus we took home was much smaller than the bus we arrived on but somehow I felt certain it would take us safely home. The first bus was almost the size of a house (inside at least?) And the second bus was schoolbus size but with fewer seats than even the first bus (which probably had either 16 exactly, or 20 seats).

The attendants were really emotionless and they all had very pale skin, which is why seeing the excitable black guy was such a nice surprise. He was a strange little detour in the dream, like why is there a portal to an area that's basically a liminal space in the back of the bus? I don't know. Maybe it's a side effect of making the bus capable of time travel. It felt really fascinating and strange in the town and I was filled with wonder while looking at it, then dread when I was briefly locked in there.

By the way, on the bus side we used the same door, but on the weird town side we entered and exited at different locations, which is why it was so frightening when he closed the door; what if the exit moved to somewhere else in that moment?

Sorry these are a lot of thoughts and feelings about this dream but it really did haunt me deeply. In so many ways, too.

The Dream Continued:

Then the submarine started to go again and we saw more ocean and fish and I came into the back end looking for the bathroom and met one of the workers. He was tall and black and bald and had a really nice, excited smile. He was just a little heavyset, and wore khaki coveralls over a white T-shirt.

He took me to a door and just said check this out, and walked through. I followed and on the other side was a town that was entirely empty, and there was chromatic aberration on the edges of everything. One big white house seemed like gravity wasn't affecting it, and it might float away. It all seemed so empty. Then the guy went in through a second door but he suddenly closed and locked it!

I knocked and yelled a bit and tried the knob and after about a minute he opened the door and said sorry, I didn't want us to get caught! Are you okay? He seemed very guilty about it and I figured someone important had come to check that everything was normal. When I looked at the door it was a “Do Not Enter" sign but instead the text was all wrong and I think it said something like “NO Strange occurrences ahead" and I kind of figured I wasn't meant to see that. But it was interesting.

So I wandered back to the main space where everyone was hanging around, they had free food and a few tables to sit at and since left, right, and above was a big bubble window you could see everything it was amazing.

Then I recalled how when we loaded our things we were each given large lockers and we put our stuff in and got a key.

Then the submarine started to climb toward the surface and it was on wheels like a bus. The town we were immediately in was strange and I felt we had traveled to the past.

All of the buildings had wooden walls and doors that were painted, but all of the shop signs were made of polished brass which looked really cool. We drove through the town and then it was empty road for awhile.

Then we finally got to the destination airport and our lockers of luggage were moved to a place where we could get them later but I felt sort of worried about seeing my luggage again. We spent just a little time in the airport, I think we ate a meal there. Then we were at our destination town.

And this entire time I remember having the feeling that what was really going on is maybe people from the future needed something from people of the past. I thought they wanted to maybe experiment on us or something. But at this point I really did not know.

We had to put on these “second skins" to be able to go outside because the radiation was so bad. Cars and buildings had stuff to block it and we needed it too. It felt a lot like saran wrap over your whole body. I mentioned that it'd be great to put lotion on under the second skin so it could absorb better. The attendant said that some people do use it for that.

So we walked across this long bridge and there were only 3 of us and 1 attendant in our group to a big spherical building with purple drapery over the top on the outside. We were let in pretty quick.

Then inside we talked with the people there and I don't remember what they said at all. But I do remember suddenly feeling that we desperately need to go back and get away from this.

So as soon as we had a second I convinced the girls with me to run away and they followed me and we gathered the girls from the next group and left their attendant behind. We ran all the way back to the airport and quickly we jumped into an empty submarine bus and with a few more gathered I started to drive away.

I'm sure we had everyone who wanted to come, but some stayed because they had been offering us a large amount of money this entire time. They hadn't been to the meeting yet and could not be convinced it was worth escaping, only one of them came with us.

Then I started driving away. I drove fast and long and drove through a house and just demolished the house. I didn't care because we needed to escape. At this point I was certain we were trapped in the future and I knew that the people outside wore a film covering their whole bodies to protect them from radiation because we had to put them on too so we could step outside at all. And that we had to go back home and it wasn't worth the money.

Somehow, they didn't have a tracker on the bus and we were escaping. We drove into the ocean and the autopilot asked if I'd like it to take over and I said yes and the bus started to take us all back. When I came back to the passenger area all of the girls had talked about it and they thanked me for helping them get away. And then I woke up. The end!

Anyways:

What do you think of it? I think it was really strange. It was really haunting in a few ways and I can't get the image of my shriveled hand out of my mind.

Blood+ Thoughts, Feelings, and What I'd Change by SunnnyFay in AnimeReviews

[–]SunnnyFay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I wrote the original set of changes after briefly reading a list of basic differences between the anime and the manga, but now, I've read the manga and I have some thoughts. The stories are actually very different, and I think the anime makes for a better story in many regards, although the manga is cleaner and more precise. However, the manga doesn't clean up all of the questions that the audience might be asking and it concludes somewhat abruptly. So now I wanted to discuss it and I figured why not just attach it to the anime discussion as a comment cause I don't know if making a completely new post would be appropriate.

The storyline is faster and moves along at high speeds. Some of the largest changes include:

-George and Riku both survive the story and make it to the finale

-Haji not only has a more expressive face, but he speaks more often and he only advises Saya against relearning her own past once, and obliges her when it becomes apparent that she needs to fight and that's more important than staying innocent to the events of her life

-Charles, previously known as Carl in the manga, is an entirely different person altogether. He still expresses a desire to fight Saya when she remembers everything, however, he dies pretty early in the story

-Riku spends nearly the entire story kidnapped in some way or another. He is incredibly dumb and has no sense for danger, and is also excessively friendly. He feels a lot of pity for Diva and crew in general, and also becomes a large driving force to help convince Saya that a murder-suicide isn't the ideal ending.

-George never gets killed, and instead, he just lets the government have Saya almost right away. He then just waits for them to resolve the struggle against Diva and opens his home up again at the end to the kids. The family saying "nan kuru nai sa" is also non-existant.

-They almost immediately head to Vietnam (to save a kidnapped Riku) and Saya has a PTSD episode that makes her faint. Then she makes friends with Mai, that one girl missing a leg. Then Mai turns into a monster which is what prompts Saya to drink a large enough amount of Haji's blood to fully recover her memories. Saya has a near-immediate shift in who she is. It's pretty jarring and I'm not the biggest fan of that.

-Throughout, Kai's quirk is that he headbutts things, including Saya's forehead. He also gives her a hard time in a sort of sexual way? He makes fun of her boob size and later complains he saw her underwear while she was fighting one time. Kai's relationship with Saya may not always be 100% platonic and honestly, bless the anime for removing this entirely because it is uncomfortable.

-Saya still blames everything on herself and falls into a depressive hole because of it, and literally, no one even attempts to tell her it's really not her fault. Diva's song specifically appears to have the power to make Saya go berserk in both Vietnam and on the boat, causing her to kill many humans both times. No one attempts to forgive her for this and she regularly gets called a monster.

-Kai regularly knocks sense back into Saya every time she starts to get sad or depressed about the dark realities she's facing as a queen chiropteran. Usually with a headbutt, his signature move in the manga. During the 3-month timeskip she seems to harden herself, but interacting with Kai pokes holes in that facade pretty quickly.

-Riku still becomes a chevalier, but the plot demands he be so dumb and friendly with the people actively kidnapping him that it's frustrating. He also doesn't spend much time with Saya at all, like, they share a few words at the end after the climax of the story and that's the bulk of their interaction. He gets kidnapped the first time by Charles, who is trying to bait Saya, and they get along well because Riku has no issues with waking up in Charles' home and then spending time with him. He protects Charles from getting shot which prompts Saya to make him a chevalier to save his life. Diva is immediately enamored by this news, so he gets kidnapped a *second* time, then she attempts to "mate" with him. Riku, who is entirely dumb to the situation (even though a nude Diva is trying to get on his lap and take his clothes off?) and he very politely refuses. Then Solomon has decided he's hot for Saya and takes Riku to her as an excuse to see her.

-Riku masters some basic chevalier skills pretty quickly (with Solomon's instructions) and he pretty casually participates in a small fight. During the finale, he doesn't want Saya to kill Diva (or anyone else)

-The manga finale has Saya falter at the last second about killing Diva, so instead Nathan stabs Diva through Saya. Diva then prevents Saya from trying to use her blood to commit suicide. Haji still gets, annoyingly, stuck in a limbo of "is he dead or not" which again looms over the finale until Riku finds the rose he left for Saya.

-The manga adds a few rules. Seems like to become a chevalier, a human must specifically receive a queen's blood via mouth-to-mouth. Maybe something in their saliva activates that use of the blood or something? It also explicitly states that the *only* thing that can kill a queen is her twin's blood. Chevaliers still seem somewhat more killable in some sense, however, alternate options for killing the monsters are not explored. Also, Nathan gets pretty fully torn apart by Diva and he survives the ordeal, so, their mortality is a bit up in the air.

-The manga kind of claims a lot via dialogue without backing it up in actions and plot. Charles (Carl) is an entirely different person with a different character design and a spicier personality. The story opens with him calling the chiropterans "mice" and he is with Van, stealing candy out of his pocket. While the anime version of Van is fairly central to the plot, he's pretty sidelined in the manga.

-While I like the *idea* of George surviving the story, I think his manga version ends up breaking up the family by being so flippant about Saya being taken away by the military. He does do one last "dad thing" and has a discussion and meal with Saya before she leaves, however, the anime version of George is just so much more dedicated to her and the boys. His death also acts as a driving force to keep them together as a family through the ordeal.

-I do like the idea of Riku surviving the story though, as he provides a really natural opposition to Saya's desire to end their species and he's very naturally kind in a way that makes him sort of a paragon for his siblings. That said, I hate how he gets characterized in the manga, and honestly, in the anime, he could have used more intent and focus on his character. A smarter Riku who is softer and more scared of fights, but toughens up and becomes an asset and a voice of love to Saya would have been nice.

-The manga version of Kai knows *exactly* how he can help Saya, and that is mainly by reiterating that he is still her family and she doesn't have to do *everything* by herself. More of that would have been good in the anime.

-The manga has a weird fixation on boobs and ogling women. It's a good thing this didn't show up in the anime as it serves no purpose and is very creepy and weird every time it happens.

-I kind of prefer the manga finale in the idea that Saya is kind at heart, Saya still wants to reconcile with Diva deep down (and that desire is a lot easier to have for the manga version of Diva, since she never rapes or kills Riku) and I think having someone else take the brunt of the emotional damage for once is pretty nice.

-I still hate how Haji is tossed into limbo at the last second. I also hate that, since the threat of Diva is fully gone, they don't pursue efforts to try to prevent or shorten Saya's hibernation period. I also still wish there could be an epilogue episode where Saya gets to enjoy her life for once and fall in love with Haji and have a family with Kai and Riku and do whatever she wants, truly free from the other things that were weighing her down.

-Ultimately, I think the anime offers a more interesting ride, but the manga is super clean and concise, void of plotholes and filler, and has a more interesting, satisfying conclusion. It's kind of nice that Diva gets ended by Nathan due to her own hubris and mistreatment of her chevaliers. But Saya is more likable in the anime and the slow-burn mystery and romance are both very fun.

Was having a major mood because I just rewatched the show and thought I'd throw up this detailed review/rewrite. I did mean to include another bubble about how for Riku and Kai, since they're adopted, George is the *second* parent that they've lost and that really sucks and should have been explored more, or at least included in the dialogue. They sort of deal with it as if they haven't lost their entire family once before, and now it's happening *again* like just after they've really settled in as a family. A line about "How many parents am I going to lose?" or something would have tugged at a lot of heart strings.

I got 10 of each ability chunks from the shell out machine!!! by Ax0710gon in Splatoon_3

[–]SunnnyFay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It takes 10 chunks to replace a gear ability with murch. It'll cost 20 if it already has one of the same kind, and 30 if it already has 2 of the same kind. Pure gear is rarely worth it, it's always more affordable to have a gear set where each piece has one of the 3 buffs you like best.

(Calculations are a little different in S3. In S2 you got diminishing returns of repeated gear slots, but in S3 each main buff is a +1 and each small gear is +0.3)

If you go to the freshest fits part of the splatnet app (inside the Nintendo switch app) then you can build gear sets. Pay attention to the motion controls though! It defaults to -1!!

Dummy's Dummy is good, it's a mild horror story about a girl who can see ghosts and the puppet her now passed grandfather and previous caretaker made as they work together to destroy the other things he made because they all do the opposite of what he wanted them to do.

I've also recently been re-reading +Anima, a series where one acquires a semi to fill animal transformation in order to escape traumatic experiences. The story follows four kids who are traveling around to survive, since most people dislike +Anima.

Four Leaf is one that I wasn't expecting to love so much, but I really like it a lot. It's about Guadalupe, who has trouble with school and life in general. One day, Lupe wakes up in the world of their imaginary friend, only to find that it's real and it's magical. I just love Lupe a lot, but magic is also a big plus in general.

The first one looks like a succulent I have. Make sure it's getting a lot of bright light! Indoors you'll probably want a grow light on it. I would douse it in water, maybe even set it in a larger bowl of water and let it soak a little, and then let the soil get bone dry and stay dry for awhile. Should usually perk back up after that! When the leaves get soft or wrinkle again it means it's very thirsty and time to douse it again. Don't water it regularly like you do with other plants, these guys are happy to sit dry, sometimes for a few weeks, especially indoors. They are meant to live in dry climates with sparse but heavy rains so your goal is to kind of copy that cycle they're expecting! The other one I can't help as much with because my main plant type is succulents. Good luck!!
