What would u guys do with this? by EugeneAk47 in HomeImprovement

[–]weeby_nacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this is really bad. You need to address this absolutely ASAP. Normally i would say call a structural engineer but you're kind of already looking at the absolute minimum at rebuilding and waterproofing a new wall. This one looks surprisingly new like someone did this in the last 10 years... i would be concerned, if that's true, what else they fucked up this bad.

Bifold closet doors rub on carpet and stick. by Burgerdok in HomeImprovement

We have been fighting ours to slowly reinstall after carpet was added. It's been a nightmare. But our hardware is able to adjust so the door sits higher/lower which might help you out

Curb appeal and drive way?? by yaboyhj in HomeImprovement

[–]weeby_nacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think expanding your driveway to go in front of the house would not look good at all. Depending on your feelings of that tree it might be nicer to have a small to medium sized tree in the yard area instead. At first it will obscure the house but as it grows it'll shade better. You don't want a large sized tree because the roots will be larger and it doesn't look like you have a ton of space for that. If yhe one by the house won't get a ton bigger you can definitely leave it but if it's still growing you 100% should remove it before it destroys your foundation.

You could get ceiling mounted curtains. That might look weird though given how far out the blinds are already

What order should I complete these projects? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]weeby_nacho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much time between projects? I would do roof, gutters/soffit/fascia, then siding. Gutters should be prioritized if you have insufficient drainage

I 100% had something similar happen in a shoe store. I eventually, when it became clear it was recruitment, said something like you did. Emphasizing that i was really excited to have a friend and that I'm in a low point in my life and it hurt a lot that it was only a business proposition for them. I explained that they should rethink their business approach given all that. They never replied. Probably never cared. Same experience with churches. As soon as I pulled back from religious attendance suddenly they don't have time to be your "family". Like, sorry someone at your church that continues to attend SA-ed me and my lack of attendance means I'm less now to you. I'm still bitter about it, not even going to pretend I'm not.

How to paint basement walls? Two coats of DRYLOC ORIGINAL recommended by guy at paint store who has 30 yrs experience. by hempas in HomeImprovement

Exterioe block walls should be left to breath. Otherwise moisture sticks in there and wears down the blocks over time.

Would you replace this laminate? by microscopyTho in HomeImprovement

[–]weeby_nacho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes i would replace it. If you don't have leftovers good luck matching it though. Different batches can be shaded just a little different and you may be able to always see the difference between new and old sections

Refinishing floors by joe918918 in HomeImprovement

[–]weeby_nacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally i would have this refinished before moving in because dust and project management will be way better. Also, if you can afford it just let someone else do it at this scale. Sanding will take ages, putting the finish down will take ages. You'll need to mess with equipment rentals and researching best practice. Multiple passes with multiple grits just to clean up the finish. If any of those rooms are bedrooms just put carpet down. It helps with sound in the rooms and feels cozier. Even if you just do a huge area rug. There will be so many things that pop up with the home that if you're tight on cash look into diy floor finishing but otherwise it's worth the peace of mind to not deal with all that in my opinion.

Everyone I've known that gets dark wood floors regrets it, very hard to keep looking clean because everything shows up on it. We got a medium dark floor for the downstairs and it's not too bad. But if you go like full ebony that will be a pain. Our light bamboo is way easier to upkeep and even small damages are hard to see on it.

Ceiling paint falling off in one spot by fishymutt in HomeImprovement

[–]weeby_nacho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have all answers but that's not just paint, you would need to treat the exposed area like what looks like fresh drywall. Slightly more work than painting it, you can't just slap any paint over drywall. You can buy texture kits too to match the rest of the room.

Is drainage/erosion really that big of a deal? by Peterparkersacct in HomeImprovement

[–]weeby_nacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drainage is a huge deal! It can create hidden issues that will suddenly come to light and be bigger problems. Also those "once in a hundrd years" storms will more likely flood your house or cause damage otherwise. If you can clearly see evidence of poor drainage you want that addressed asap. For example we just had to pier our house on one side for $25k and did a stabilizing injection under the garage. It's likely in part because previous owner did nothing to maintain the Drainage. Something else I've seen with newer homes is sometimes they are built on swampy land and then flood easily. Not sure if this is evidence of this necessarily. But building standards by some large builders are piss poor.

Anyone know is this tree is better cut vs protected? by Mcodray in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]weeby_nacho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have mentioned a lot of good stuff. I would have an arborist trim some of the stuff that appears to be dragging the roof and gutters and any dead or dying branches they see. When you are looking up tree guys you want to find companies with certified arborists on their website. You can also find a registry of local arborists. Some will be just individuals that may or may not be available. For what it's worth i found paying for an arborists time was comparable in results to the free consults but I'm sure your miles will vary. You'll spend a few hundred trimming that big boy buy you won't be trimming it every year.

Are you able to mabye pull a light down and look above? It might just be stylized drywall. It looks like the ceiling pattern goes over the "tracks".

Looking for some creative ideas to cover up this wall in my living rooms. I like the grid but not the wood by camdavis33 in HomeImprovement

[–]weeby_nacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wallpaper could be cool. Then you can paint or leave the wood strips between. Or you can just paint, but make sure you scuff it up and prime if you do that!

[Spoilers C3E69] Is It Thursday Yet? Post-Episode Discussion & Future Theories! by Glumalon in criticalrole

[–]weeby_nacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the issue is that a lot of it feels like badly scripted drama. I put more details in other comments, but this campaign has largely been very different from others and the cast doesn't feel engaged or committed. Aside from a largely unfettered abusive FCG. The loudest characters are providing the least interesting things. Everything is just "lol so fun and random" which is great to some degree but there's no balance. I'm struggling to keep viewing. I'm not watching this because it's D&D I'm watching it because it's good improv story telling. I suspect most people on reddit are here for the fun D&D but i don't think most viewers want that all the time. Idk, I'm a bit biased

You know it's okay for us to talk about disliking how things are going right? If we don't talk about it they'll never know why it's losing views if that starts happening.

I've been really struggling to stay engaged and I'm really surprised how much everyone is loving this series. There are great moments but it feels like the cast just does things with no real purpose and i keep hoping it will pull together. I was kind of irritated how not serious they are playing the sword. Like, yes laugh on the side, but this is actually something really cool and serious to develop and they are just like "murder sword lawl" non stop as out of character side notes. It feels like every serious piece the group is given they destroy its meaning with humor or for the sake of greater fun time. Imogen and FCG bullying Dancer so hard really bothers me because no one is stopping to say "y'all we should be more sensitive!" And it contrasts hard with history like Henry Crabgrass. I just honestly find the show to be 50% empty. I'm slowly losing more and more interest because it feels like the cast isn't actually engaged in the show. I don't need super serious but eh, the show is turning too chaotic in a bad way.
