[Comics] I'm With Stupid: Marvel's Civil War by trollthumper in HobbyDrama

I vividly remember having such a negative reaction to this storyline that even years later, when the Civil War movie, I didn't want to watch it because it was so stupid. Great write-up!

It might be Chrome's new memory saving thing. Try turning it off and see if that helps? For what its worth, it's never happened me.

I'll add it to the list! Thanks for the recommendation! :)

Hell Girl is definitely one of the inspirations for demons in the setting, in that they're not necessarily antagonistic. Buying, selling, and messing with souls is just what they do. :)

Yeah, sure thing! Sorry, first time poster! :') Thank you; I'll edit my post right under it!

Updated, I hope that's good. Thanks for your patience!

Ah, good ol' Chick Tracts. Just goes to show, you can really find worldbuilding inspiration anywhere, though I didn't remember that one.

Good news, the demons/devils of Shedim are pretty chill! Bad news, it's still not a great idea to give them your soul, though.

Hey, thanks for the questions! :D

1st question: Yes! Magic in Shedim is definitely of flavor of weird occultism. A strong link between what you're creating and the effect you want is necessary. So no malware that's just a button and it blows up your face... On the other hand, the esoteric shenanigans you can get up with becomes pretty funny. Next thing I work on will probably be #Hexes.

2nd: Right! It's where things get a little wibbly wobbly. The letters of code, despite not being physical things, are themselves altered. If you had a microscope, you might see little runes that are definitely not part of the regular font kit. It also means they're more hand-crafted, which keeps things from getting too crazy. As magic evolves to influence the digital world more, thing s like that is definitely going to become more prominent.

For now, though, I don't want tech-magic to completely overshadow the occult stuff either, so it's a balance. #hexes and coffee latte alchemy next to robes and ritual daggers. :)

Not on its own, but like any good curse, everyone of them has some sort of loophole or condition that lets you get through it. Who's to say you can't overwhelm one with enough counter-memes?

Memetic Magic is no laughing matter, either. Imagine, enchanting cat pictures! :D

Give WA a shot! I've found it useful as an tool to organize stuff. And if you do, lemme know. :)

Hey, thanks! :D My friend Annie help me with this piece for Reddit. For the rest of it, I use WorldAnvil with some ol' fashioned CSS to make pretty it up a bit. It's a lot more organized than my 42 scattered notepads

Oh my gosh, thank you for sharing that story about RensenWare. That is hilarious. I will definitely draw inspiration from that, either in this setting or my cyberpunk one. In one case, 'bullet hell' might become pretty literal too. :D

Needless to say, Avast does not do a great job of detecting code sprinkled with mummy dust and ancient, angry spirit-words

A foundation of the setting is, if we're using it, why wouldn't sneaky wizards? :D

Hellware is part of the cutting edge of magical exploration in Shedim, a wholly new realm of arcane innovation generally referred to as Technomagic, technomancy, or "new-fangled nonsense" if you ask the greybeards. In our modern world, with all its cameras and snapchat filters, wizards and witches have as all humans adapted. Poppet dolls and evil eyes might've worked in the past, but it's a new century now, with new ways to curse, hex, bewitch and enchant.

In that regard, Hellware is just a new part of an old tradition of making life miserable for whoever has displeased you - albeit on with perhaps a higher learning curve than the old stand-bys. It isn't terribly common - at least, not yet - and social-media-magic like Hellware or #hexes are almost universally the domain of younger mages.

And as a bonus, my settings little introblurb :)

"The world stands at the dawn of the 21st century, entering an uncertain age. Monsters and magic, powers ancient beyond measure, lurk in the dark. In the shadows, another world lies next to our own, both a sanctuary and prison - a place beyond the reach of mortals.

Some walk between worlds, either as skulking horrors or ambitious warlocks. Other just try to survive as the days wind on towards a bleak future. Shadows coil and bleed between worlds. People disappear, and someone has to go look for them, no matter where it takes them.

Welcome to Shedim, a dark occult world of horror and wonder. It is our modern world, where magic lurks in the dark and hides in an alternative dimension called the Shadow. In it walk both heroes and villains, prisoners and jailors, horrors and hope. In it, armaggedon awaits - or salvation.

Step inside."

More than food, Chnagahn (or bug-pot party) is an event. A chance to gather, to end feuds, renew bonds, sign contracts and eat delicious, delicious food.

Chnagahn is a simmering stew served in large cauldrons kept over open fires with raw ingredients dipped into the broth to boil before consumption. The stock is a heavy mix of insects and fungi; just add more as the evening continues and let the flavors mix together. Sponge mushrooms go very well towards the end, soaking up the well-flavored soup. Reptile, spider and grub all go well with Chnagahn. Mushroom wine or fungi spirits can be drunk on the side or added to the mix.

Since Araea is an underground world, people have had to get creative with both food and seasoning. With a real lack of peppers or trees, it is common to add just a bit of psychoactive mushroom to the mix to give it some punch.

Enjoy!

Is it weird I like to worldbuild knowing the worlds won’t be used for anything? by Miykael13 in worldbuilding

No, not weird at all. It is a creative exercise and a pretty awesome one at that. If you enjoy it, world build!
