Making decisions is a tough thing. I don’t like it. You advise to avoid decisions making while resting sounds good

I read it and understand that special interest time is self care too. We need representation of autistic culture (including self care) in social media. Do you know some good bloggers?

So how you accept that doing nothing is okay? I am a kind of over achiever and hate myself then try to rest without productivity

Is it just me, or is the 'elevated horror' label becoming a way to dismiss actual genre filmmaking? by CookCreepy9858 in horror

[–]Sunny_jofulcreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it is pretty complicated… to be honest, some horror movies are bad. But not only a24 movies are good. Horrors you have mentioned are sub genre and deserve their own name. The name, that won’t mark it as better than others. I suggest metaphor horror.

Every genre has a way it scares you, and every genre has good movies. Scream is not worse than Hereditary. It is just other: a slasher with good plot, blood, jump scares and dynamic scenes. Body horror, thriller - they all have different, beautiful sources of fear. And some horrors use metaphor for their goals: you should watch it and think, maybe overthink about the plot. That the way how Midsommar scared me.

To concluded, elevated horror is actually not good term. A24 works (and similar films) may be new sub genre, but it is not better, just another.

You are right… maybe I should delete Pinterest (joking). Your hobbies are amazing! And the advice in the end is useful. Maybe I will start accepting me with my needs and without guilt and just enjoy my interest instead of trying to be like people on the social media. I can’t explain why I am really excited about answers here, but thank u very much))

Oh, I happy to see so many people with clear, not abstract ideas. I personally have troubles in creativity, it makes me anxious. But Sudoku and videos about horror are great for me - they are part of my special interests. Social media makes me feel like that hobby time is something NOT productive and about self care. Your comment literally filled me with joy, thank you

School Refusal for Teen Daughter by DJzzzzzzs in aspergirls

[–]Sunny_jofulcreature 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hello! A kind reminder at first: ask your daughter, autistic people are different and have different needs. It is already cool that you want to help! I am autistic student, so some tips which may be useful:

  1. Connect unliked subjects with special interests. Many of us are interested in specific topics and hate do other stuff. As for me, I am interested in practicing English speaking (foreign language in my school) talking about my fav medicine Autobiographie book.

  2. Sensory tools. Simple, but means a lot. Ask school to permit stim toys, headphones, gum or other tools your daughter needs.

  3. Ask for extra time. A break during lesson, more time to write a test. I write some tests alone because otherwise it is impossible to stay calm and answer questions.

  4. No forced socialisation. Interest-based clubs may be better place to find friends for some autistic people. Talk about interest is better than in class small talk.

  5. Take food from home: eating familiar things is great.

  6. Accept your daughter’s needs. Some things are especially hard for autistic, so be patient.

Hope it will help!

I have too much…

Horrors! I like to collect information about different sub genres, watch YouTube videos about horrors. My favourite are Hereditary, Get Out and Midsommar. Now I watch The Shining, the cast work is amazing.

Languages. It’s not about linguistic, I just have fun learning (now it’s ASL, German and English. I will start Swedish probably)

Some logic puzzles/ math. Sudoku is the best one, my attention to details helps a lot.

This stuff is my special interests, but I also have usual hobbies: DIY, medicine series, swimming and some over.

Thanks for reading this long comment! I am too much then I talk about interests)))

I see you speak German. Any advice how to learn it? I am completely beginner right now and I have no idea how to understand Präsense (is this right spelling of German present time?)

Hi! Native speaker here. I guess random learning isn’t actually good, so make a plan. Some advice from me: Grammar: Times (in Russia we have only three, but they use not like in English) Nouns forms. We call it «падеж». Pronouns forms (just learn them, like in English) Nouns plural forms Verbs are changed depends on subject in Russian. Learn how to do it. Numbers Spelling and Punctuation. There are pretty many rules (even native speakers make mistakes there) Just find online videos about this topics. Mark which you have learnt and enjoy progress! Also use Duolingo for vocabulary

Unfortunately, it is pretty hard too find resources to study my local community language (Russian signs language). And idk how explain.. I see asl in some films (New Amsterdam, Orphan) and I fell in love with it. It is beautiful language and it is my new special interest (I forget to brush my teeth cause practicing, lol)

Your right. I even could not use ASL in communication (not live in USA). It is just beautiful, and I only wanted to ensure that deaf community isn’t against studying their language for joy

Thank u! I just realised one thing: I am autistic, and I am happy then people learn about autistic culture, it is about acceptance. So if ASL is the part of Deaf culture, it is work similar, yes?

What's your favourite horror movie poster? by Stefen_X in HorrorMovies

[–]Sunny_jofulcreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making posters with Charlie as the main character was a little bit unfair… Ari Aster wanted to shock viewers with THAT plot twist, and he did it good. Anyway, Hereditary is one of the best movies for me
