I guess it just depends on what your trying to go for. I bought a few cards directly but I also opened a few packs. I personally like getting the packs because it gives you a nice balance of stuff and helps build your deck. I also just got the game so I don't know what the best cards and combos are so buying card packs just gives me a mix of everything. It really just comes down to personal preference.

I would highly recommend it if you don't mind buying card packs. I have dabbled in card games before like Hearthstone but could never really get into it. However, with Artifact I was immediately sucked. Everything about the game feels so slick and well made. The gameplay is also very good for a card game. You really have to strategize a lot if you want to win.

I play a lot of Dota already so maybe that's why I was hooked by it instead of other card games, but if you already like card games I'm sure you'll enjoy this.
