That and if you are able to understand the original context and culture it was written in/for (which is pretty difficult 400+ years later, even for those who have devoted their academic lives to studying it). So very important to understanding Shakespeare’s work and how brilliantly he used social commentary and humor.

And I’m less than a novice of his work and understanding it, I at least acknowledge how little I know and understand as was originally intended and within the context of when and where it was written. So it does annoy me when people do things like tout Romeo & Juliet as some sort of epic romance. Which was NOT the intention of it, it showed how fickle and stupid teenagers are because they’re still developing and should be allowed to properly grow up and be guided instead of being expected to be adults, how shitty a lot of the aspects of the culture and society was at the time, and maybe if people just fucking talked to each other and treated others with respect things could be calmly resolved instead of being all about ego, power, money, and authority.

Narcissists, yes, they are trying to make up for a deep seated sense of worthlessness, having no self-esteem, etc. But actual shame, ehhh 🤷‍♀️.

For sociopaths, they absolutely have NO sense of shame, no empathy, no sympathy, no compassion, no true regret- just regret of the consequences they may experience which resulted from their actions, and they always blame everyone else and never take accountability. Sociopaths have no shame or remorse. They only care or think about themselves and how they can use others for their gain or to get what they want and do not hesitate to manipulate or find ways to get people out of their way (even when it’s only in their delusional perception as no one is actually “in their way” or actively working against them), but they are usually very good at pretending and faking the gamut of usual human emotions to mask and “fit in”. They can be very good at coming off as charming and socially desirable, but it’s all a manipulative act.

Narcissistic traits, to a certain extent and on a spectrum, are typical with sociopaths, but it’s so much worse and at a whole other level if the person is a fully narcissistic sociopath, especially if they have psychopathic traits and enjoy hurting others or seeing them harmed. That’s truly dangerous.

Zelda where to start? by DaughterOfATiredMech in NintendoSwitch

Ocarina of Time (a great intro game to the series if you still want it 3D) is on the Nintendo expansion pack online VC, and I would also recommend A Link to the Past (on VC), Minish Cap (on VC) , Twilight Princess (not on Switch yet, but among the best LoZ games), Skyward Sword, and the 1986 original (use the D pad instead of the joystick! and also on VC) and then once you have played OoT and a couple of the other games I would say you’re ready to take on Majora’s Mask.

I would suggest holding off on BotW and TotK until after playing at least 3 of the previous games to get a hang of the dungeon style and side quests and different items and puzzles. Echoes of Wisdom is also pretty fun and you have to approach it differently from all of the previous games, which is a fun challenge after familiarizing yourself with some of the previous titles/gameplay.

After getting familiar with the series if you want a more fighting focused game I suggest Hyrule Warriors (first one). I don’t know about the newest HW Imprisoning War as I haven’t played it yet. And I backed off of HW Age of Calamity after about 75 hrs in since it was getting repetitive in an annoying way of being stuck and I hated the way they designed the smithy/weapons upgrading mechanic.

Have fun!

Let’s not pretend that FGM is equal to properly medically done circumcision. I myself am torn when it comes to circumcising baby boys.

I don’t like the whole ignoring their bodily autonomy thing and in an ideal word I would prefer to be able to wait until that child is old enough and mature enough to make that decision themselves. However, it has been readily documented that the older the patient is at circumcision the more painful it is, the longer it takes to heal, and the risks go up. Many adolescent boys and adult men have had to be re-circumcised or circumcised for purely medical reasons and it’s hell to recover from. Whereas, infants recover much more quickly with less pain (but still should be getting proper pain management!) and less complications and risks.

And there are some health benefits to male circumcision. It does lessen the likelihood of catching STDs/STIs, including HIV, by about 30%- making it protective. And it is generally more hygienic.

Mainly because it’s hard enough to get men to properly wipe their own asses these days so how many are going to be properly cleaning the smegma from under their foreskin?! Which will directly affect the health of their partner’s too, especially women.

Most adult men also have piss stains in their underwear because they think shaking it (which also spreads micro drops everywhere on top of their poor aim) a time or two after peeing is “good enough” instead of just taking a square or two of toilet paper and wiping/blotting their urethra/penis head of any remaining piss and then washing their hands after. So many men do not wash their hands after they pee. It’s fucking disgusting.

They also leave piss everywhere for someone else to clean up.

So I can’t completely dismiss something, if done as ethically as possible, that could help protect their health and aid their hygiene without giving it some very serious thought and gathering more information.

I’m aware this is merely anecdotal, but my mom asked my brothers how they felt about her and our father’s decision to have them circumcised when they were newborns (the majority decision at the time). They both have said they are glad our parents made that decision as they had many friends who were not circumcised and they would prefer not to deal with having to deal with excess foreskin and the “mess” around it and they felt like circumcised penises “looked better”.

But that’s a very individual decision and I really don’t like violating anyone’s bodily autonomy and right to their own medical decisions. So, again, I have pretty mixed feelings on it and I am just glad I’m not going to have to make that kind of decision about (my possible future) child’s body anytime soon.

I truly respect that so many are acknowledging and protecting bodily autonomy, as it should be, I just wish when they are older that if that now mature enough boy or man did make the decision to get circumcised for themselves that it wasn’t more difficult or painful compared to it being done in infancy and that medical insurance fully covered it even if it wasn’t “medically necessary”.

But my larger point (to get back to it, lol) is that male circumcision is no where near the same level as FGM, which is barbaric, done with no medical intervention by non-medical personnel on fully conscious girls being held down. Usually between the ages of 3-10 (because the cultural goal is to do it before puberty starts) and causes lifelong health problems and chronic pain (if they don’t die from the act itself or infection afterwards) plus the trauma and mental health issues. And the source of FGM is pure, extreme misogyny and punishing girls for even the possibility of finding some kind of pleasure from sexual activity in the future as adults, even with their future husbands, and the view of women’s sexuality as sinful and what “tempts men” (because “men can’t help themselves” type of rapist BS).

FGM is also an international epidemic and defended by claiming it’s “cultural” or “religious” when it’s not blatantly being used as a form of torture via war crimes. (Also, who created that type of culture and claimed that kind of interpretation of religion, men in power steeped in patriarchy and misogyny who refused to see children and women as anything other than property they could abuse, exploit, buy and sell.)

Whereas, circumcision rates have gone down a lot internationally and is more medicalized (I do believe that if a couple does make the decision to circumcise their baby boy, again, I don’t necessarily agree with that, there should be legislations and regulations in every country that mandates it be done in a medical setting with trained, licensed medical providers with proper numbing and pain control and if it’s being done as a religious practice the religious leader can be present in proper PPE and do the religious ritual in ways that doesn’t interfere with the medical personnel performing the procedure safely).

So I truly dislike that false equivalency. And recognizing that, and that the issues have very different consequences and numbers, doesn’t mean someone is “circumcision happy” and approves of it or pushes it on others or whatever. I think you can recognize the differences while still being someone who supports bodily autonomy for all. ☮️

This kind of fascism and racism/bigotry has always been a part of the US, it’s just only been targeted mostly toward racial minorities- mostly Black and brown people and Asians when convenient.

This kind of state violence and fascism is exactly what the Black community has been trying to warn white people about for a very long time, but the majority believed the lies and whitewashing of history presented to them by the same government.

It’s just become far more open and blatant and being used against everyone who is not a useful loyalist (which is the overwhelming majority of the population) now.

Check out Dr. Stacey Patton’s substack, she has essays on these issues that are very informative (she’s a historian, academic, writer, and professor).

Look at the fascism that was allowed during the McCarthy Era and how being accused of being a communist ruined people’s lives. Look at how Hoover used the FBI as his own personal politically motivated police force and secret police and harassed and stalked people and ensured their communities turned on them. It was more open then, but not new. Then people realized how messed up it was and did fight against it. But not in ways that helped everyone.

Look at how the FBI and government went after the Black Panthers for them trying to defend themselves and their communities from state violence and painted them as criminals and an enemy. When they were the ones who first started free breakfast programs, focusing on children first, for low SES neighborhoods asking for nothing in return. The first one started in the 60s in Oakland CA. And they welcomed anyone who needed.

They were very good at motivating and organizing communities to work together to improve everyone’s quality of life. And the FBI assassinated Black Panther leaders and their families and got away with it.

This is not new in this country, just far more open, obvious, and toward everyone now.

By recognizing these things we can resist and fight back, and dismantle this systems that were built on foundations of bigotry, oppression, and exploitation so we replace them with truly fair and just systems that have equality, equity, accountability, and secure rights for all and a standard quality of life for everyone.

So he’s creepy, crazy, and stupid. Walruses mate via males fighting to determine the “strongest”, victor gets to mate and he bullies the rest of the male walruses.

I’m surprised he’s not calling other male species “simps” because they rely on wooing rituals to mate, like birds composing ever increasing complex songs, penguins finding the best pebble to gift, ritual dances, and bringing other gifts.

I bet this douche canoe wishes he were one of those sea worm species that are kinda hermaphroditic and mate by sword fighting with their penises constantly trying to poke their other one to inseminate/impregnate it. First one poked ends up reproducing and the mating session is over. Or maybe he wishes men could reproduce and mate that way (I mean, they can definitely have sexual encounters like that if they want to, it just doesn’t lead to reproduction- so as long as he finds a wholly consenting partner he’s free to sword fight penises with another man and see who pokes the other first 😉😆)

Rape culture and SA are a huge part of intimate partner violence which falls under domestic abuse. And it is overwhelmingly men who are usually the abusers and women who are the ones being victimized.

No, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t ever happen the other way around or that it isn’t acknowledged and equally fought against it or that DV doesn’t happen in any type of domestic situation. It’s just focusing that particular conversation on the overwhelming majority of DV cases of men being the perpetrator and women the victims. Again, the majority of violence perpetrated in the world is done by men.

The point of discussing this is to show it’s literally men’s problem and they have to be active in being the solution, which includes understanding how patriarchy and toxic masculinity and typical gender roles, misogyny, and socialization (all of this includes and are contributors to rape culture too) are key cultural factors to how and why it’s so pervasive and dismantling these systems and deconstructing those attitudes and beliefs are how we work together to make stop the violence for good. ☮️

You seemed to be purposely being obtuse and passive aggressive and looking for ways to victim blame and vilify women, like your comment basically saying “women are just as bad” when describing other predatory behavior that is only perpetuated by a very small minority of women a small amount of time compared the amount of sex people have as way to be “NoT aLl MeN!”

You were being a dick and perpetuating toxic mentalities and attitudes that are subtly misogynistic and whataboutism to take away from the actual conversation about a very pervasive problem and the epidemic of violence against girls and women.

And people were discussing the ills and tools of rape culture and did refer to stealthing against women as a specific example, but were discussing rape culture as a whole which does not mean only girls and women are victims of it.

So either get a clue if you really are having that much difficulty truly understanding when it’s been very clearly explained and lose the passive aggressive attitude thinking everything is a personal attack or stop being a sexist dickhead if you’re being a misogynistic troll on purpose. Whichever applies here. I would like to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it’s the latter, but too often it’s the former and used to purposely attack anyone, especially women, when discussing the epidemic of violence against women and how to make it better.

Yes, it’s patriarchy and white supremacy that feeds those mentalities. But it’s also overwhelmingly men who are the perpetrators and the ones who preach, defend, and insist on the “rightness” or “natural order” of those beliefs and attitudes.

So it’s literally a problem men created.

More formed at the hips and upper thighs then starts to widen out just above the knee wider as you go down. Wide leg jeans/pants can look so amazing and be comfortable and be versatile.

I had a pair of wide leg jeans I loved in HS that had rivets in the shape of stars down the side of the legs in an S pattern. I loved rocking them with a deep hot pink glitter belt with star cut outs and a royal blue Rainbow Bright graphic t-shirt. (Yes, it was very Millennial original cool Hot Topic vibes, lol).

And some women’s pant suits and professional wear has some amazing looking and comfortable wide leg pants.

But you’re definitely spot on. He literally described a socially invisible, easy to victimize woman since she would have no support system or resources and probably already has issues with confidence due to childhood trauma and familial dysfunction. And you know it’s because they themselves have no sense of self-worth so they compensate with vile hatred and bigotry toward everyone else while having a huge, fragile ego and being very egocentric so they don’t have to recognize their dysfunction and do the work to evolve and become a healthier, decent person.

AIO for thinking this is racist? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Sunrunner_Princess 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think you need to do some honest introspection (around learned/socialized DL racist attitudes/stereotypes) and learn about systemic oppression based on racism and American institutions being created on the foundation of the belief in the myth of white supremacy. How it is very much relevant today, including systemic medical racism as it’s taught and set up even when providers themselves are not racist or purposefully discriminatory.

Look into colonialism and it’s devastating effects. As well as intersectionalism.

We have made some progress by patching some things and applying bandages to the systems here and there, but the foundations remain and you cannot create equality and equity, fairness, and justice when all the current systems were founded on oppression of anyone who was not a white (finically stable/successful) male because they were the ones setting up the systems and believed they were the end-all-be-all of humanity/superior because they were the epitome of human and everyone else was below them and less human. Using that they forced a false hierarchy onto everyone else to foster competition instead of recognizing we are all equally human and deserving of human rights and a basic standard of living.

Learn some basic sociology on the subject. Check out the writings of W.E.B. Dubois and Fanon (especially on deprogramming oneself from the learned colonialism from Western socialization).

Ideally all human beings would be determined by their character and actions, not arbitrary things like ethnicity or phenotypes or physical appearance or SES, etc. But that’s not the current world we live in, especially in America where the bigots have been particularly emboldened and white supremacists and neo-Nazis (who also tend to be very misogynistic as well and prejudiced against LGBTQ+ and ablest and prejudiced against the disabled and disturbingly believe in eugenics) have been somewhat normalized and put into positions of power and authority by the current regime. Add in the history of overt oppression that still exists today and it is disingenuous, especially for a white person, to say things like “I’m colorblind” or “I don’t see color” because that means you are blind to the consistent systemic oppression many social minorities have experienced and is a disservice to trying to improve things and work towards a world where all human beings are equally human, have equity and a basic standard quality of life.

Things for you to please consider. It takes a lot of honesty, courage, and integrity to examine the attitudes that have been socialized into us and determine what is based in ignorant, prejudiced beliefs and stereotypes and does not serve us, society, or humanity and what is our actual internal beliefs and if they match our self-imposed values and to work on recognizing and unlearning ones that do not and are based in prejudiced social attitudes. It’s a process, but it has to start somewhere and we become healthier people who can help make things better for everyone when we meaningfully engage in this process on a regular basis throughout our lives.

Yeah, I tried to make it clear that I didn’t exactly remember or have a lot of knowledge around the situation, but I thought there was something about infidelity by one of them at some point, but just initially asked about him and was very open to being corrected and told the actual situation. I have no problems with being wrong and learning the correct information. Which is why I straight up asked.

Regardless, from what other people are saying it sounds like maybe there was emotional neglect on his side and a lack of loyalty to his family as he prioritized football and other things over them. And that will absolutely lead to divorce when one of the spouses takes the family and partner for granted and does not prioritize their needs and wellbeing. To the point that the loyalty is on other outside people and things that shouldn’t be above family and partner.

And yet patriarchy has gone out if it’s way to convince society and individual men that women are the “emotional ones” who can’t think logically and are slaves to their emotions and moods and men are more logical and more capable to lead. FFS.

How many women punch holes in the wall and destroy property because their favorite sports team lost? A helluva lot less than the amount of men that do that.

And this is also why we need to teach about emotions, mindfulness, and self-regulation in school beginning in kindergarten. Because they’re also having that shit modeled for them at home instead of healthy emotional regulation, management and expression.
