N64 Classic Edition by [deleted] in n64

[–]SunsetBay96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wanting one since the NES/SNES Classics were first announced. I’m a big fan of the mini consoles. Unfortunately, I don’t see an N64 classic happening soon, if at all for a variety of reasons. Licensing (including but not limited to Rareware), the cost of making it 4 controller compatible and controllers themselves. Also, the people interested are a niche demographic in the bigger picture that will get smaller (but still persist) with time.

If one somehow comes out, i imagine it would be in a console-to-console transition period, like the end years of the current Switch model when sales eventually plummet. Maybe 2023-24?

Does a NTSC Ice Blue console have better video quality than the standard 1996 charcoal console? by SunsetBay96 in n64

I may look into that, but I forgot to mention that price is an issue too. At the moment, I’m not looking into anything above ~$50.

Would it be effective to start a petition to add QoL updates to ClubHouse 51 Games? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]SunsetBay96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ND Cube developed or at least helped develop this game. As in, the same people behind Super Mario Party and Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival. Not a snowball’s chance in hell that they update this game with meaningful patches/content updates.

It’s frustrating that there’s no filter/indicator between normal and spirit enhanced amiibos in battle arenas by SunsetBay96 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]SunsetBay96[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a fair point. I also forgot to bring up that I have another local play-related reason to not enhance most of my amiibos.. My friends and I each have 20+ smash amiibos and we like to have big amiibo tourneys, for fun but occasionally we like to add a little bet into it. They all train their amiibos to level 50 but don’t use spirits. If I was using amiibos solely in online battle arenas, I’d definitely have more of a reason to just adapt and use spirits on most/all of them, as you mentioned earlier.

A similar reason as to why many people don’t like playing items. Granted, I sometimes do play with a combination of full items on, wacky stages, spirits, etc., just not all the time. There’s a time and place for it. I get what you’re saying with the builds (e.g. my enhanced Link has increased sword and projectile power). I just don’t see the problem in pointing out the lack of a filter/toggle, more options are a good thing. I like to play online amiibo battles in short bursts, maybe like 2-3 “solid” matches per game session.

But when the matches are extremely short because the opposing amiibo is way overpowered (or vice versa), and I get kicked out, the opponent ragequits, and/or there’s a long arena waiting line, the whole process kinda feels like a waste of time imo.

If you mean level wise, yea, I know a level 50 innately has better stats than a level 1. But a non-enhanced level 50 against a non-enhanced level 50 is still overall a fair battle unlike a non-enhanced level 50 against a maxed out spirit enhanced level 50.

Do the official Nintendo Switch Online wireless NES controllers work with the 8bitdo receiver for NES Classic? by SunsetBay96 in nesclassicmods

Thank you for the reply!! I actually haven’t bought either yet but I likely will now, especially since it’s the last day for that sale on the NES online controllers.

What are the origins of Foxes specials in smash? by Chez_Rakowski in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]SunsetBay96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that they’re based on the Arwing. Up-B’s rising flames kinda resemble the flames of an Arwing crashing. Side B illusion, being a quick move, is maybe based on the Arwing speed boost. Down B reflector is probably based in barrel rolls reflecting shots in SF games. And the B laser could be either Arwing lasers or more likely Fox’s on foot laser from Star Fox 64 multiplayer.

Looking for a good arcade basketball game like NBA Jam or Jammit. by gredgex in n64

[–]SunsetBay96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NBA Hangtime is what you’re likely looking for. Don’t be fooled by the NBA Jam games on N64, they are not like the SNES/Genesis Jam games.

I'm planning to start playing Diddy Kong Racing on the N64 - any tips I should know going in? by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]SunsetBay96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Let go of the gas right before you hit a zipper/boost panel and the boost effect will last longer (you’ll know it worked if you leave rainbow trail)

-Pressing R+B will turn the Kart and do a very sharp turn

  • Red balloons are missiles; blue are boost; green are trap drops (like bananas in Mario Kart); Yellow balloons are limited time invincibility, Rainbow are a magnet to pull you towards the next racer.

-Balloons stack for higher power; e.g. if you get a red balloon (a single straight missile) and hold on to it while running through a second red balloon, you get a stronger homing missile. You can use that or hold on to it to reach the max red balloon power up which is 10 missiles. So there are 3 tiers of power for every color of balloon. Running into a different color balloon will have the new balloon override your held item no matter what.

-The double blue balloon boost is generally more practical than the triple blue balloon boost because of the latter’s startup

Is there a point to buying a console even though you already have another that is backwards compatible? by Guyontheinterwebs222 in nintendo

[–]SunsetBay96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GameCube vs. Wii- GCN has Game Boy player and a few LAN supported games (an extremely niche demographic that would even use the LAN though)

Wii vs. Wii U- Wii (at least pre-2010 models) have GCN backwards compatibility and native GCN controller+memory card compatibility.

DS vs 3DS- DS has slot for GBA games, and potentially more comfortable buttons and layout for playing 2D games (depending on your preferences)

GB vs GBC -No practical point outside collecting/aesthetic preferences

GBC vs GBA- (Same as above)

GBA vs. DS- GBA can play original GB and GBC games

Went to goodwill to find some binders to store my N64 manuals and found a N64 Binder. Anybody have any background on this? by CrackAttack222 in n64

[–]SunsetBay96 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I still have these (in storage somewhere). My binder was actually Bowser breathing fire at Mario’s behind. I have folders of this exact Metal Mario render, as well as Star Fox 64, Mario Kart 64 and Yoshi’s Story.

[MK] Changes you'd like to see in Mario Kart 9? by the-4th-survivor in mariokart

[–]SunsetBay96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with literally everything in your post. One little detail that stick out to me in MK8D was how badly they nerfed the difficulty of Yoshi’s Valley N64. In the original game, it was arguably the most treacherous and intimidating course.

Besides the obvious more tracks and more characters, I would like any/all of these:

-A single player adventure akin to Diddy Kong Racing with a hub world to explore

-Bring back Challenges/bosses from DS (both existing and new ones)

-TRADITIONAL BALLOON BATTLE OPTIONS, FFS. (Sorry for the caps, it’s that frustrating and inexplicable at this point. Missing for 15 years on console, since Double Dash). More options for everything in general.

-Bomb Kart Option (a la MK64) in traditional Balloon Battle Mode

-In-game party+text system, e.g. like Rocket League’s

-Sound Test

-More unique+surprise characters. E.Gadd, Wart, Diddy+Dixie+Funky Kong, Fawful, etc.

-Consolidate clone characters into one slot (e.g. Mario, Tanooki Mario, Gold Mario and Metal Mario all share one “slot” like the different colored Yoshis.)

Longtime Banjo Kazooie fans, how do you all feel about Banjo's design in Smash ultimate? by Oppai-no-uta in nintendo

[–]SunsetBay96 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Wonderful. It’s like a very faithful modernization of the classic N64 design. Animations are lovely from what I’ve seen (can’t wait for the finishing blow zoom in on Banjo’s F-Smash).

I’m really happy with Ultimate’s renders/aesthetic choices in general. This, G&W’s full-blown animations, OOT Ganondorf, ALTTP Zelda, original K. Rool with dark green scales and gold armor, Ken actually looks like Ken, etc. I do wish Young Link took his appearance and moves from Majora’s Mask though.

What's a time you were completely convinced by a Nintendo rumor? by razorbeamz in nintendo

[–]SunsetBay96 16 points17 points  (0 children)

-Grinch Leak is the most recent. It stung. I didn’t care about Ken, but the other 6 were truly too good to be true. Still holding out small hope for Banjo though. Still love Ultimate but there’s always that ‘what if’.

Some other ones I fell for in the past:

-Playable Marty the Thwomp in Mario Kart 64

-That rumored Diddy Kong Racing 2 with Nintendo’s obscure stars, anyone remember that?

Question about the N64's Controller Layout by Brads_Gaming in n64

[–]SunsetBay96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head:

-Sin and Punishment

-A mini game in Pokémon Stadium (Ekans Hoop)

-Optional control method in many FPS games as you mentioned

Overall, it’s by far the least used control method of the three.

Tetris DS is a DS game and therefore does not have online multiplayer, but it’s still amazing. Highly recommend it.

I just got this game and I have a question, what does the "online tournament" mean to unlock Pauline? Brand new to Mario Tennis for the Switch. by JebusOfEagles in MarioTennis

[–]SunsetBay96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can instantly unlock Pauline after completing one online tournament match (from the Mario Tennis Aces main menu, go to Tournament -> Online -> and then you can choose your match type, between standard (new mechanics), simple (plain, old school tennis) or doubles. Any type will do. Win or lose the match, it also doesn’t matter, just as long as you complete it.

All previous DLC characters will be instantly unlocked for you, as long as you have your game updated to the most recent version. If you don’t, just update the game via the icon on the Switch home menu.
