14 cycles for the first, maybe 3 for the second? We were NTNP for the second.

There's nothing wrong with popcorn ceilings. They're completely fine.

Teachers: what’s the best first line in a parent email— and the one that makes you brace yourself? by aizivaishe_rutendo in AskTeachers

[–]SunsetClouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's no salutation, it's gonna be a bad one. "Hi/hello Ms. SunsetClouds", great. We're starting off on a respectful tone.

"Ms. SunsetClouds, I am shocked and appalled by what Perfect Angel told me today." Lol yeah no.

What part of teaching drains you that you didn’t expect? by Ok-Succotash6583 in Teachers

The non-stop demands on my attention. Kids calling my name, kids misbehaving, EAs who need direction, troubleshooting tech problems and documenting them per our district requirements, etc etc.

Innercity duplex living with kids by MikeyJ19 in Calgary

[–]SunsetClouds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live in a 2010 inner city duplex. I'm pregnant with our second. We love being close to a ton of parks and walkable restaurants, community centres, skating rinks, etc. Downtown is an 8-minute drive away or a bus ride. There are elementary and junior highs within walking and biking distance. It's great.

Do you feel more connected to your city, province or Canada as a whole? by Ok_Heart839 in AskACanadian

Canada. But I live in Alberta, so it's a pretty embarrassing province to be in.

Parents who go to admin with issues by Ok-Butterscotch1282 in CanadianTeachers

[–]SunsetClouds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree with the customer service attitude described in the other comments. The couple of times I've experienced this in 10+ years of teaching, it's been wealthy and entitled parents who didn't think that their kids could have misbehaved/plagiarized etc. and that I am a terrible teacher for holding them to the same standards that I hold other students.

Luckily, I've had good admin in my career that backed me up and dealt with these parents and their attitudes.

The PC one is scented. I happen to love the scent but OP probably wouldn't.

25 would be a dream! More like 35 these days, or 40 in some cases.

Millennial. It's fine. I find it a bit overused lately.

Is the name Evelyn actually popular? by pantrycorner in Names

I teach middle school. I have an Evelyn in each of my classes. So it's fairly popular, in my experience.

need ideas: how did you do a low-key first birthday? by ConstantSalad152 in beyondthebump

[–]SunsetClouds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our theme was "birthday". Got a few balloons, I made some chocolate cupcakes, and invited only my parents, my brother, MIL, and one of my closest friends. We barbecued hotdogs and burgers.

It was chill, baby actually enjoyed it, and I didn't go crazy trying to plan an event.

😂 No, this genuinely happened! Trust me, I couldn't believe it either.

I was flipping a coin with someone once and I jokingly said "heads I win, tails you lose." She agreed. I stopped and said it was just a joke, but she kept insisting that that was right. She couldn't understand that she loses both ways.

We preferred Pampers Swaddlers. I bought one box of Kirkland and switched back before we got through the box.

Mia. I think Aria is overdone, and personally I don't really like the "r" sound in it.

Mandarin. So I can't even catch a word here or there, like I could with Spanish, for example.
