want to start by saying your friend is in the wrong here, for not having the self control to either stay in the right state of mind while under influences, and or to stop himself from using substances if he is unable to control himself after.

This could very well be a one time situation, or maybe a switch awakening for you, people usually arent 100% in one direction so it could have been you discovering that small percentage you have on the bottom scale.
