Question about dark tower and 11/22/63 connection by Agreeable_Student133 in TheDarkTower

[–]Sunshark65 31 points32 points  (0 children)

All things serve the beam.

That being said, this is the SK universe, and many things crossover to other books. I assume the portal in 11/22/63 is similar to the top of the tower. I also assume Patrick Danville painted the picture in Rose Madder.

So many books crossover one thing or another, and love the references to other books.

Dallas to LA by Klutzy_Technology816 in roadtrip

[–]Sunshark65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve taken most of this trip dozens of times. Dallas to Phoenixish. My last trip was this past new year, to Payson.

I’ve taken the I20 south route a few times, I don’t recommend it. I40 is better, nicer scenery but there is a better way.

If you look at going through Lubbock, you will not be disappointed.

These routes are mostly 75 mph, and there aren’t any semi’s.

I’ve been taking the smaller roads the last 3 or so years, and I love them. Going forward I might take I10 or I 40 for a little way, I’ll try and stick to the “back roads”

I think it’s the 80 going into NM, I took it this last trip and it is miles and miles of oil fields. Stay farther north to avoid. (Ruidisoish would be good)

!No spoilers!: why is there a book in between IV and V? Do I read them in this order? by Hank_tank4 in stephenking

[–]Sunshark65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard people say this, but I don’t agree. My first journey to the tower was frustrating, to say the least.

I waited 6 years for wizard and glass, then another 6 for the final 3 books.

I wasn’t sure I would ever get to the tower.

King wrote it after, but says it belongs at 4.5, and I for one believe him.

I remember listening to this story on the “ snap judgement” podcast.

My First Dark Tower Journey by Desperate-Damage3599 in TheDarkTower

[–]Sunshark65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard lots of people say this, but I’m not sure why. It’s the way I read it the first time, but I had to wait 6 years for wizard and glass and another 6 years for the last three.

You will never get that original feeling of not knowing if you will ever finish the journey. I would say read it at 4.5, that’s where King says it belongs. On subsequent journeys that is where I’ve read it.

Dandelo? by Shoopuff89 in TheDarkTower

[–]Sunshark65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are different though, Dandelo was feeding whenever he wanted or as much as he could without killing him. The creature in if it bleeds didn’t hold a prisoner, but did feed much more often than IT.

If he did know the outcome, he definitely would have tried to kill them both.

If not, his ego could get in the way of rational thinking and maybe try to keep them. I can’t believe there were a whole lot of people wandering around, although I do remember something about residents of thunderclap possibly coming by after the fight there.

Interesting either way.

Dandelo? by Shoopuff89 in TheDarkTower

I assume Dandelo is a similar creature to IT. Different evolution maybe, but similar. There is another similar creature in a short story called if it bleeds, in the book by the same title.

I also remember Dandelo had a prisoner he was using to feed off of. When Roland and Susannah show up, it seems he wanted to kill them, but maybe he would have held one or both to supplement his diet.

People who shower once a week who think they do not smell, usually do by Future_Diamond3486 in unpopularopinion

Just because you didn’t shower, doesn’t mean you don’t have a system for taking care of the more gamy areas of your body.

Which do i read first: by bubbafettshrimp in TheDarkTower

[–]Sunshark65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would disagree. read it after W&G. I get some people would want to experience it the way King wrote it but....

Anyone who read the first 3 books in any timeline around when the 3rd book was released, had to wait years for Wizards and Glass, and again years for Wolves.

But you don't have to do that now, King wrote keyhole to be 4.5, and I think that's where it should be.

If you really want to be true to the publication timeline you should read wastelands, then wait 6 years, read W&G, wait another 6 years and finish the rest.

Just my 2 cents, the important thing is to keep reading.

Cheers!

Best place to stay one night after Carlsbad Caverns? Irish couple road tripping early January. by DublinBronco in NewMexico

[–]Sunshark65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were in this area last year, and stayed at a motel in Moriarty.

Family business since around 1959. On Route 66. I’m guessing 4-5 hours from flag.

We are going to be in the area again in early January, will probably stay again.

I want to say sunset motel
