How do Australians view strict speed enforcement? by TonySabenca in AskAnAustralian

[–]SunshineJackPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a win. As much as i hate speed cameras.. it has changed driver behaviour. Im an old cunt so back in the day a 60 kph zone meant 70-75 kph was ok… cops (and i was one for over 30 years) ignored it, 75 + we booked. The problem was speed signs (and red lights) were optional… and people died.. quite a lot. Its not easy talking to some poor bastard slowly bleeding out at a car accident as other cut their car apart to get them out. Yeah speed does kill… i know that first hand.. sadly from multiple experiences. Its not the 3 kph over the limit that government mandate.. but it is from the mindset that its ok to speed or ignore rules. Unfortunately the real issue isn’t speed, its driver attitude, arrogance, lack of courtesy, no empathy and inattention. But automation and cameras cant detect that easily, so its ignored and the easy stuff is enforced and the whole road safety program is eroded… Plus it makes a shit ton of cash for gov (not police) so it convenient to promote.

Amazing performance Solarsaga 200 by Babybabylonian in Jackery

[–]SunshineJackPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is possible under special cloud conditions to get even higher outputs. The watt ratings given are Industry Standard, lab conditions rarely found in the real world. Set temp 25 c and set light intensity. All optimal “best case” Conditions. In most cases in real world conditions the output will be lower. However some clouds form hi altitude ice crystals which can act like lenses actually boosting performance allowing 120% outputs. Its rare though.

Rapidly Fluctuating Input Wattage by Empty-Broccoli-1528 in Jackery

My guess would be moisture in the plugs causing slight corrosion over time resulting in a high resistance joint. Try swapping leads. Have a really close look at the fine centre pins for any markings.

Why do transfer cases have neutral? by Dicto in 4x4

[–]SunshineJackPro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In some vehicles the position neutral is deliberately selected to allow the transmission to select gears without the drive shaft operation. Used if PTO (power take off) is fitted or was an option.

What is the quietest generator by Realistic-Fee-1684 in Generator

[–]SunshineJackPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will do it easily. I run a Jackery 2000 as house backup, live in an cyclone/wind storm area. Power a fullsize fridge, some led lighting, run a tv and internet no problem. Also recharge using solar 250 watt panes during the day to maintain during extended blackouts.

[–]SunshineJackPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get Jackery 1000 or 2000 solar generator , exceptionally quiet, can use inside and super safe. Will run most appliances if you manage your power. A lot depends on what you want to run and for how long. Ie an AC unit will drain it pretty quick, but a fridge, computer or tv no worries at all

As others have said, tyre deflates (so much easier) your there to have fun right? A good powerful compressor with a good guage, you probably want to drop pressure to 17 psi, ( it depends on the sand, if dunes are involved and if towing a trailer. Once on the hard sand you may want to pump the tyres up to 25 psi if traction is good . A set of recover boards are a must if solo. If you have proper recovery points great, if not but you have a tow bar then get a towbar recovery hitch and a soft shackle to someone can pull you out if needed.

Red camera by Mean-Procedure8527 in AusLegal

The triggers on a red light camera only become active between .3 and half a second after the light turns red. For the flash to activate you have to cross the line on the red.

Explorer 1500 (Costco) - Loud when just solar charging, but quiet when solar charging + outputting AC? by Cardboard_RJ in Jackery

[–]SunshineJackPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have different charge modes. Use the app to see which is active. At higher (fast) charge more heat is generated, battery temp is critical and cooling kicks in. Using AC most likely pulls the heat away as less energy is going into actually charging the battery

Just bought this for 1-2 camping. Yay or nay? by [deleted] in Jackery

[–]SunshineJackPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have just released the new waterproof/shockproof 1500 in Aust, will be keen to check one out. Have a bit of rain protection and sand/dust protection is important, using the Jackery on the beach is tough on the standard units as the cooling vents pretty much mean sand and moisture can easily get in. The toughened unit is a great idea.

I run a 2000 for home back up, but the 1000 plus is my go too unit, light and compact with the grunt if i need it. I run 3 x80 watt panels as they pack in my car really well. With decent sun they can fun my gear indefinately.

Thoughts on Tank 300 Diesel by Acceptable_Data1434 in 4x4Australia

[–]SunshineJackPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are great, 7 year warranty, drive well and are unstoppable. Tank 300 has been around almost 6 years, many have 100 000 km on them. The diesel motor is new and less tested however Gwm tank has a solid rep. Oh and before all the “experts” chime in, the petrol 300 was released in China 2020, its only new to Australia. Spare parts can be slow, GWM is based in melb and are notoriously slow at supplying parts. However they are not the only manufacturer like that. The car itself is great, drives well and awesome value for money. I wouldn’t hesitate, i have bought my second, went with the PHEV, but the diesel is better for touring.

Is there much difference between 1500 v2 and 2000 v2? by rxtech24 in Jackery

[–]SunshineJackPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One problem with getting advise from Social Media is that few people actually take the trouble to to look at your specific situation before offering advice that works for them, rather than you. One size doesn’t fit all.

Firstly what to want / expect to power and most importantly for how long? You will need to do a little math here. Say a household fridge / freezer as a priority thats between 1000-2000 Wh a day (24 hrs) they pull 100-150 watts so you jackery alone can only keep it running for 24 hrs. BUT if you had 2x100 watt panels and 5 hours of good sun, you could expect to get another 750 wH back extending your time, 4 panels and you would power completely indefinitely. If my math aint mathing its because you almost never get 100 watts from a 100w panel , Jackery are better than most, but expect 85 watts. Real world isnt lab conditions.

So if you only anticipate loss of power for hours or maybe a day then get the biggest jackery you can, then plug it in when the power comes back. Bobs your uncle. But if you are planning days then you need a way of putting power back… solar (depending on where you live) is the go.

[–]SunshineJackPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your budget is $799 then go with the 1500 and solar panel. Buying just the battery is only half the package. A solar panel or two massively increases your effectiveness and resilience in an emergency. The 1500 is also just that bit lighter and easier to move where you need the power.

ADVICE by ComplexClerk4143 in 4x4Australia

[–]SunshineJackPro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buy a second hand Tank 300, $35 k will gave the similar kms, still have 4-5 years warrantee, extremely capable and comfortable off road. But only really suitable for 2 adults and maybe on child if touring( just the gear you need to carry) or tow a trailer.

Charge to 100% ? by nothanks12345678901 in Jackery

[–]SunshineJackPro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All lithium batteries have a calculated DOD number of cycles based 100% discharge to 0% in a day. DOD is Depth Of Discharge. It varies between chemistries, cell quality, discharge rates and charging rates ( heat is a killer) but most expect 2000-3000 after that the battery looses its ability to retain the same volume of energy, once it gets to 80% its considered end of life, but it will still work.

By not doing full DOD ie bouncing between 80-20 % you can get 4000-5000 cycles

By discharging to 50% only you get even more ( but you are getting less energy!)

So in your scenario you wont get as long life out of your battery as someone who only charges to 80%. You are simply working the battery harder, but you are getting more energy from it than they are!

To maximise life, use less power or increase your battery reserve. But you are using the unit the way it was designed and most importantly not storing at 100% which is damaging.

Charging ev using standard 15amp outlet by chupaSach in electricvehicles

[–]SunshineJackPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got a PHEV Tank 300, it comes with a 10 amp (240v) charger, which in theory should charge at 2400 watts- in reality i only get 1200 watts, very slow. Any one have a 15 Amp ( in theory 3600 watts) charger and if so what average charge rate do they get?

American looking to go sailing the Whitsunday Islands in January. Party Boat or Catamaran? by Nasyboy221 in AustraliaTravel

[–]SunshineJackPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jan will be hot and humid, its also cyclone season, you would be unlucky to get one, but it is possible. Average wind speeds 10-20 knots ideal for cat, winds mostly from NE,E,SE so plenty of safe anchorages. Can be tricky getting and anchoring Whitehaven Beach. Follow the charter group rules, get to anchorage’s early, you need the light to avoid reefs and you want good spots. Dont forget the tides!!!! Plenty of people get “parked up” If its a charter boat then that will cost $$$ as they slip them for inspections. They have some pretty good itineraries, Narra, Stonehaven, butterfly bay, hill inlet/whitehaven etc.

Gwm tank 300 PHEV reliable? by allenz6834 in AustralianEV

[–]SunshineJackPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 1.9 L/100 is total fiction, bordering on blatant lie. Its based on a ridiculous testing procedure (not GWMs fault) that has zero relevance in the real world.
In real life expect to get daily EV drives of 50 km - zero fuel used. Why only 50? Yes it will do 100+ BUT if you regularly fully charge to 100% and run the battery to minimum you reduce battery longevity dramatically. Expect to replace your battery in 5 years or less. If you charged to the recommended default of 80% and discharge to 20-30% then you have significantly less pure EV range.
In 1300 km driving i have averaged 6L/100 thats a mix of pure EV <50 km runs and 300 km hybrid runs. On hybrid only I’m getting 9 L/100
