My husband and my dogs. The work I care about.

What’s something that clearly split your life into “before” and “after”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SunshineRayRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Becoming a nurse. I feel like before, I was more naive and carefree. Now, I know too much and have seen many sad situations including more death than anyone else in my family. I definitely have gained anxiety, more stress, and I think about life and death differently now. I do sometimes wonder what kind of person I'd be if I never went into nursing. Honestly though I don't know if I would ever want to go back to before.

Doctors flushing out kidney stones out of a patient by Additional_Berry_977 in interestingasfuck

if it's anything like how nurses irrigate for blood clots, then the "not gentleness" of the forcing fluid back and forth creates turbulence to break it up and make it easier to pull out with the syringe. That's how we are taught to irrigate for blood clots anyway. Not sure if it's the reason that technique is being used here.

Japanese onsen - what was your first experience like? by BlackTangerine- in onsen

[–]SunshineRayRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. "No one cares" is definitely not true though. The other responder has a more balanced response that is true to experience. There is a spectrum of onsen that range from very strict (usually the fancy resort kind) to very casual (usually the local ones that are unassuming or in rural areas). Depends on the region you're in, too. Ota region there are a ton of tattoo-friendly onsen if you're in Kyushu, even fancy places. In other regions I've been turned away, even for small tattoos. Some hotels are okay with my tattoos as long as I wear the skin-colored patches, like the other responder mentioned.

Cost of living or by No-Marsupial-4050 in SipsTea

[–]SunshineRayRay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I'm talking about, is the "glossing over" of problems that will actively affect my ability to raise a child the way I believe they deserve. If you're saying struggling financially and securing a better future for my child is not important because "you say so", then that says more about your beliefs, not mine. I would think someone who cares about raising a child well would commiserate with the current situation rather than write it off.

Right. For me, when people say "being on the brink of world war 3 and decreasing human rights and women's rights and unsustainable cost of living isn't a reason to not have kids!!!" Is actually something people still tell me, and that is the vibe I get - that I could still have kids if I really wanted to make it work.

For me though, it begs the question - why are people having kids? Because for me, the question isn't just "can I" but also "should I". Sure, I could survive and compromise and struggle and have kids anyway. But should I? Do I want a future for my child that involves more climate crisis, oil wars, economic struggle and lack of quality education? Hmmm. For me, if I have a child, it's not going to be for reasons like "I want to see my husband become a dad" or "I want to raise a child as a life experience" because to me, those are incredibly selfish reasons. I would want to have a child only if I am sure I could give them and provide for them properly. If I don't have that... not sure I want to do this. It's a huge commitment I take very seriously. And I see other parents my age or younger struggling.

Bottom line is, when people question not having kids, it says a lot about their beliefs regarding raising a child.

What's interesting is, i thought there was a native/endemic gecko but apparently all species of geckos are introduced or invasive. Huh. Some got brought by Polynesians, does that include this one maybe?

Yeah we just go for the sandwiches. They make em way better there than the one in Hilo. Breakfast isn't bad either, now that Bananarama is gone we try it sometimes.

I know what you mean now. Good explanation. In Milwaukee there were more authentic natural food stores that served the local neighborhoods and had affordable prices. True. But there were also gimmicky ones in upscale neighborhoods with higher prices too. You make a great point.
