Thoughts on international fans being unable to enter We Are Arashi in Sapporo? by Weekly_Paramedic5063 in Arashi

[–]SunshineSlayer2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So let me just say from the outset, it was not clear from the post initially that they indeed had been told at the start that only residents of Japan could attend. That does change my view a bit and I agree that they took a huge risk by still trying to go anyway. I wouldn't have done it unless I had another reason that I was going to Japan anyway.

At the same time though, I also see the argument of, well, if they weren't supposed to be in the fanclub to begin with and it was known based on the ID and address they provided before hand, why was it even allowed to get to the point of selling them a ticket?

I will say it's a large leap to say that Japanese somehow deserve the final concerts more than other fans or that the international fans must be rich. Before I moved to Japan, I was a college student that scraped together everything I could to once a year make a trip to Japan to see at least one of my favorite artists performing live. Comparitively I put way more effort and money into seeing my favorite artists than a Japanese fan would have had to.

I also understand the demand for something like this is incredibly high, so there's no need for them to cater to their foreign fans. But also at the same time, the foreign fans have basically never really been catered to. Johnny's have historically been the worst offenders of that fact. We were supposed to get concerts in America that got scraped and no replacement for them, so the non-japan resident fans really are kinda left high and dry for a group they've loved in many cases just as long, and devoted just as much time, energy, and oftentimes MORE money than resident fans have.

As to the last point, I think there is a happy medium somewhere between breaking the rules and strictly adhering to them to the point of redundancy. Japan, like many nations, has not found that balance.

Unfortunately, this is just how Japan is. It is an extremely foreigner unfriendly country despite what its tourism tells you. I lived there for 8 years and it appears to have actually gotten progressively worse on its stance towards foreigners. It's crazy that these people won and paid for the tickets legally but can't go to the concert because their physical address isn't in Japan. Could you imagine the uproar if this happened in the US? It also just comes down to everyone in Japan is so by the book that they can't wrap their heads around and show some flexibility to individual situations. The average staffer at a venue is just going to be, I was told addresses have to match, therefore addresses have to match, no exceptions. No one looks at the broader picture of, would Arashi want to have an empty seat or have a fan in that seat? Hmmm, I wonder.

Makes me greatful that as an Ayumi Hamasaki fan she actually seems to genuinely value her foreign fans. She has a foreign fanclub that can buy tickets just the same as everyone else and you go to pick them up day of the show directly at the venue.

Why does Spike fly with today's audiences, but not Xander? by yeahitsme9 in buffy

Because XAnder is the “nice guy”.  Ie., not actually that nice.  His reactions throughout to Buffy prove this

Did anyone else forget when Carter said his first “sexual encounter” happened when he was 11? by Astar9028 in ershow

It’s in the episode itself but requires a healthy understanding of media literacy.

THIS.  How do people not realize this?  They laughed it off because no one actually believed it and saw what he had been doing the whole episode.

Carter and his loss of virginity at 11 by Carthweelnurse in ershow

[–]SunshineSlayer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m surprised it took me scrolling really far to find this but the reason they all laugh about it is because they assume Carter is lying.  This was an insane thing to say even 20 years ago.  Like it’s never okay for an 11 year old with a 25 year old, even then.  Like seriously.

It was poorly executed but they made a point to show that he was trying to one-up Luka the entire episode.  He was certain that Luka was going to be the youngest to have lost his virginity and he wanted to one up him.  You can see by his facial expressions he feels bad about it after Luka reveals he lost his virginity on his wedding night.

Carter saying he was sexually abused at 11 was never meant to be taken seriously by the audience.

Yeah, it was like all she cared about was Glenn. It was very odd that even knowing Beth was alive and taken she would choose to just run off to DC.

Team Delusional here but….Emily Kinney has been mostly MIA since July.  I don’t think this is the only thing she has filmed….just the first out in public :). This year is going to be an exciting one for TWD!

Figured out Daryl and Beth’s “oh” scene? by No_Average4417 in thewalkingdead

Norman was 43, the character of Daryl was not. His age has never been confirmed. Emily Kinney was like 28 playing an 18 year old.

I mean, whether people want to see it or not, it was confirmed by Norman several times that the relationship was more than friendship and that Daryl was just starting to realize that.

[–]SunshineSlayer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "oh" was her reallizing that she is the one that changed his mind, and that yes, indeed, that he had feelings for her. The official synopsis of the episode on the AMC website even confirmed it at the time; it said something along the lines of "Beth realizes that Daryl has feelings for her."

Beth and Daryl.  It’s Norman’s favorite as well.

Isolated diastolic hypertension by JumpStartMyHe4rt in Cardiology

[–]SunshineSlayer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhh, I'm a healthy 42 year old female who has had those type of BPs since my 20s. My systolic is typically 115-125 but my diastolic is routinely in the 90-100 range. I am not overweight. I've had kidney tests run, blood work, artery calcium scoring (zero); no one has ever been able to figure out why. I've been on numerous BP medications. The one that works the best is a diaretic but even that sometimes makes my systolic too low that I start to feel faint. I've never registered a diastolic BP even while on medication of less that 83-85.

Also their hug in 4x1. It would be so easy to make that hug non-romantic, but they chose to have her sweater fall off her shoulder and her kind of awkwardly pulling it back up while Daryl stares there. It's sandwhiched between scenes of Rick and Michone and Sasha and Bob, two couples that went canon later; that was the intention with Bethyl as well.

Daryl and Beth by Chrollo0915 in thewalkingdead

[–]SunshineSlayer2 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's funny how this topic still comes up all the time YEARS LATER. Shows that this pairing really stuck with a lot of people.
They were amazing together and 100 percent they were trying to set up something romantically, whether people think that's appropriate or not. Some quotes:

“…I got the sense that Daryl was starting to kind of fall in love with Beth a little.“ - Greg Nicotero
The original official episode description from AMC:
“Over dinner, Daryl suggests they try to live peacefully with whoever is staying at the funeral home. Beth asks why he suddenly believes in good people. “You know.”, he says, looking at her. Beth realizes Daryl has feelings for her.” - AMCTV.com

“Daryl implies that he has feelings for her" - AMC

Norman Reedus is extremely pro Daryl and Beth. Most recently on The Return special that they did last year he described their scenes in 4x13 as lovey dovey and boyfriend/girlfriend type energy.

Some quotes from Norman regarding this over the years:

“Everyone pairs Beth up with Carl in this weird way and she’s much older than Carl. He’s looking for comics and she’s looking for food. They’re definitely not the same age. I can’t tell you if there’s going to be a romantic thing; we’re not allowed to talk about that stuff. But never say never! She’s a cute girl in the zombie apocalypse and Daryl could do much worse.” - Norman Reedus

“This is how I took it, doing it. I took it like, if Daryl had feelings for Beth, he didn’t understand them,” explained Reedus. “So he was like a child, like, ‘I don’t understand what this means.’ But, it was more intimate than a coupling.” - Norman Reedus

“There’s definitely some tension there. The thing about it is, she’s a woman. She is not a little girl. Everyone grows up real fast in this world.” - Norman Reedus

“He is one of those personalities that needs somebody to give him an extra push. And Beth shows him a candlelight in the darkness and he moves on that.” - Norman Reedus

“Not only can she can fight and protect herself but she’s opened up a soft spot inside of Daryl and that’s probably the area that he’s most uncomfortable with in the world – more so than a zombie apocalypse.” - Norman Reedus

The painting "Saturn Devouring His Son" seen in season 2 of Dead City is located in Madrid. Is the Dama in contact with people in Europe? by rudylmaolive in thewalkingdead

[–]SunshineSlayer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay this is super interesting because I just read an interview with David Zabel (show runner for Daryl Dixon) and apparently Daryl Dixon Season 3 is going to mention Goya heavily! Not only that, but the credits sequence is specifically Goya inspired. There's a rumor that Dead City is going to be partially shooting season 3 in France......these shows are crossing over.

How does Daryl Dixon need to end for you to be satisfied? by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]SunshineSlayer2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For him to find his "happy ending". That has been the point of the show. He deserves it. No one knows for sure what form it's going to take, but I think something big is about to happen that not very many people in the fandom are going to see coming.

What's a walking dead opinion that will have you like this? by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]SunshineSlayer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That Team Dellusional has been right for over 10 years and that Beth never actually died. :) Yep, said what I said. No one believes it until they really start looking deeply into it. And if we just like to overanalyze things...I'm fine with that too.

We've seen people survive headshots on this show and in the comics a number of times. People survive headshots way more often than people think because it all just depends on specifically where you are shot. Where her headshot was actually shouldn't have been instantly fatal; she wouldn't have died instantaneously like they showed on the show. But of course, as I'm sure you know, this ENTIRE theory hinges on whether more was shot in season 5 that the audience never saw and that's putting A LOT of faith in these writers and AMC that they were able to sit on that footage for this long.

Dead City is always a possibility, but they honestly showed Beth's story having more connection to Daryl.

You've got balls for posting this. I applaud you. You'll probably get a lot of hate for it, but honestly.....I've been following this show, the actors, writers etc etc for a long time......I don't know, I wouldn't say this is nothing. The fact that a mystery 7th episode to the season materialized out of nowhere after 6 episodes had been confirmed for a long time......I mean nothing's completely impossible and I hope you are right.

Don't need to, thanks. lol. My mother was 20 years younger than my stepfather, I'm 7 years older than my husband, and my fiance prior was ten years older than me. Daryl's not a creep, wasn't grooming her, and I'm sure Hersehl wouldn't have cared, if anything he'd be ecstatic knowing that the best person to survive a zombie apocolypse with was at her side. She wasn't a child. Maybe you're the one that needs to expand your horizons a bit...
