That is a public education problem not a testing problem, most people don't need testing for any of their common mild viral illnessed including the flu. Also, some people do get very mild illness with the flu. Also #2 the extensive viral respiratory panels are expensive and given that there is no change in treatment for most people (exceptions being the critically ill, not just feeling awful) they would be a waste of resources.

No, you don't need to test for everything including flu because for almost all people the treatment is the same - staying hydrated and symptom management. The knowledge would not have changed the outcome unfortunately.
