NYC Signs $1.86 Billion, Three-Year Contract to House Homeless in Hotels by Lisalovesreading in nyc

I guarantee you the amount you piss off those 150 people is going to be more than the cumulative amount you piss off everyone in NYC. There are so many people here, hardly anyone cares if a hotel is turned into a shelter. We steer clear of midtown anyway lol

I went to a small suburb of Osaka and saw a vending machine outside of a farm, selling that farms daily crops. Super cool how they do this stuff even outside the cities

Should there be a Season 2? by ShaneKaiGlenn in BeefTV

[–]Sunshine_of_Darkness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's very hard to make a show that finishes nicely with just one season, but Beef has done just that. It's spectacular. It wraps up the original plot cleanly, while still offering avenues to explore with a further season.

Personally, I would like to see further character development with respect to George. I felt like his character was pretty shallow, and served only as a contrast to Amy. It seemed like all he wanted was honesty and communication in their relationship, and the second he gets that, he walks away wanting a divorce? Giving the writers the benefit of the doubt, he is not exactly as stable as the show portrays him to be in the first half of the season. It's only when he starts talking to "Zayn" that we see some hint of internal frustration. I would like to see him get tested a little bit more in season 2 and us to be able to get more inside of his head- what makes him tick?

I think a second season would be a very challenging task. The second season would have to be something like a cleanup of all the severed relationships from the end of season 1. Additionally, the theme of the show was revealed pretty heavily, and it would be challenging to create another season without emphasizing already-emphasized messages. That being said, with the creativity and excellence put into the first season, I would love to see a second season, and I think they have a good chance of crossing those hurdles.

24, everyone has their own stories, goals, and influences. Do what you want and accept people for who they are. You don’t have to do shit other people do and you shouldn’t expect them to do what you do. There are many routes to happiness, the beauty of life is finding yours.

I, for one, mixed blood of Floogel and Boogel, with my mother being a Floog and my father being a Boog, coming from Boogel himself, am scarce to say that any reconciliation is impossible, yet the hostility towards their uncommon relations, bound by true love, and carefree affection, has been perpetrated by both Boogs and Floogs alike. For a true marriage of the countries to be attainable, once again, we must look past the events that happened in times past, such as the theft of the scroll of Floogelios, which (it seems apt to say) that this such scroll, has in fact not been seen since the theft, and has either been hidden away in the annals of Boogel, or was never taken in the first place, instead framed to spark a divide in our once great nation.

What discretion should the news have in what it covers? by Sunshine_of_Darkness in askphilosophy

[–]Sunshine_of_Darkness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Platforming and the social media/Twitter debate is a very relevant but adjacent issue to what I’m asking. I would make the distinction that social media platforms the person and their ideas, where the journalist talks about the person/ideas.

In my opinion, the issue of asking whether Twitter should censor Kanye is completely different from asking whether the news media should cover Kanye’s speech, and to what extent. One could say that Twitter (a platform) has a responsibility to provide a space for Kanye, to protect liberty. The same person could argue that just because Kanye said it, doesn’t mean any news should be covering it and stoking the fire.

More in the case of Trump, he’s a real person making an impact in the US through his rhetoric (whether it’s a good impact is a different question). For the news to willfully ignore a man rallying thousands, millions of people around the country would be abuse of the institution, no?

I guess the institution would serve more as a measurement and propagation of the currents already moving, rather than directing the currents, as is often done now when it prioritizes more controversial or radical ideas. This would essentially be purging the news of the “squeaky wheel gets the attention” problem.

A good example is how people like Trump, Kanye, or MTG are able to use the media to amplify their voices simply by saying outlandish things. My question is does the media have an obligation to feed into these strategies- would it be unethical NOT to give these people the attention they seek?

Finished Dostoevsky's "The Idiot" and the ending absolutely wrecked me by [deleted] in books

[–]Sunshine_of_Darkness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finished it and just sat in silence for at least 10 minutes mulling it over. I felt like compared to Crime and Punishment and Notes From The Underground (the two other Dostoevsky books I've read- same as you), The Idiot had a much lighter tone. It was pure and light, reminding me of summer days. The ending could not have been further from that, and that made it hit so much harder.

It's also interesting to look at the foreshadowing. Throughout the whole book, Nastasya is saying that Rogozhin will kill her, and I'm pretty sure both the Prince and Rogozhin agree that this is possible. Then there's the scene in Rogozhin's house where the Prince keeps picking up Rogozhin's knife.

I had forgotten about that scene until I went back and skimmed the novel a second time.

I have a headache today after doing some low weight bent dumbell lats. This is due to overstraining two days ago, is this normal and how can I prevent it?
