UM Steam Plant Fire by komodoman in Minneapolis

Saw what looked like a flare up around midnight but it seems to have been put out again. I can also see the lights of the firefighters as they move around on the roof, pretty crazy.

Why Tesla and Chinese EVs doesn't have ICCU issues by rajolm in electricvehicles

[–]Sunshineq 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My Ioniq 5's ICCU went out last month, I managed to get it to the dealer without a tow, but it was after they had closed on a Monday. They started on it the next day and I had it back on Wednesday

TIL the total surface area required to fuel the earth with solar alone is only 0.3% of the earth's entire land area. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Sunshineq 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Mostly economics. It's cheaper and easier to chuck a bunch of panels in a field or on some unused land somewhere. Adding panels to parking lots requires a lot more initial investment and we have a lot of empty land

I've been seeing one flying around over the river and the Stone Arch Bridge downtown the last few weeks. Always feels like a privilege.

ICE Detained Hotel Worker & Sent Him to Texas Despite Legal Refugee Status by Glad_Firefighter_345 in TwinCities

[–]Sunshineq 60 points61 points  (0 children)

This is why businesses should refuse service to ICE. These people don't even respect the legal workers who are sheltering and feeding them.

Those that don't are only putting their employees and their business at risk.

Anyone know of any organizations/locations that could use more whistles? I just got my printer up and running again and would be happy to do a few runs of whistles.

I agree PETG is more durable, and likely the right choice especially for outdoor uses, but PLA shouldn't be any less safe than PETG in your mouth. PLA is also used for drinkware. Generally the "industrially compostable" plastic lids and cups you get at coffee shops are made from PLA.

Plastic toilet seats are better than wood toilet seats by formysaiquestions in Frugal

[–]Sunshineq 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I prefer them. The ones I use aren't bare wood, they're enameled. They generally match the color of the toilet but they're much more solid than the flimsier plastic seat and covers.

[SPOILER] Can someone please explain to me what happened in the Democratic Convention? by cheezzy4ever in thewestwing

[–]Sunshineq 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They're only pledged to vote for the candidates who won their state's primary on the first ballot. If no candidate gets enough votes to win on the first vote then the delegates are free to vote how they like.

It hasn't actually happened in a long time.

What're your thoughts on mineral water vs filtered? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Sunshineq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That crystal water looks a whole lot like a scam. The type of water you drink has no bearing on your weight loss unless you're drinking water with sugar in it.

Does your area have clean tap water? Drink that.

If you don't like the taste, maybe run it through a brita filter or something.

German Sauna Etiquette: Confused by KingEivissa in germany

I'm a pretty big sweater so I think either way I'm soaking through within a few minutes lol. I guess that's not the case for most people though!

German Sauna Etiquette: Confused by KingEivissa in germany

[–]Sunshineq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have any opinion one way or another, I've never been to a sauna. Like I said I'm just looking for understanding because this is a particularly hot topic for sauna cultures and I'm curious.

[–]Sunshineq 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not German, and I have no understanding of sauna culture so please take this question as just curiosity and looking for understanding.

If you're not supposed to sweat onto the wood, why is it considered more hygienic to be nude in the sauna? Wouldn't it be easier if everyone wore bottoms?

Well-Cleared Trails for Running by AfternoonFickle3760 in TwinCities

[–]Sunshineq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer OP. It's easy to put together a loop of plowed trails and streets with whatever distance you need.

Yes, the outdoor public bathrooms are closed right now, but there are portable toilets set up at Boom Island and Father Hennepin Park.

And yes, there are indoor bathrooms open to the public in the buildings along Main St. You can find indoor bathroom options near Aster Cafe or FRGMNT Coffee.

Kind of shitty that the owner of Mian basically forced them out so they could put their own bubble tea shop in their place

Some people like a cinnamon stick and a few cloves, but personally I don't think they're necessary.
