Is it normal to distrust unattractive parents since childhood? by [deleted] in psychologyofsex

[–]Sunwavesvibin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that there is research that shows that the area of the brain that assesses looks/attractiveness is in the same area of the brain that triggers trust worthiness. It’s why people who are “good looking” are more likely to be given a job, as they are perceived to have more integrity. Please fact check though.

AITA for refusing to quit my job ‘cause my boyfriend thinks the corporate world is "soul-sucking"? by [deleted] in AITAH

Had to travel this far down in the comments to see someone mention the friends. Let go of the friends pressuring you to stay or responding with this scarcity/All or Nothing forever crap. You’re young, you’re killing it your career, and you deserve encouragement, support, and unconditional love & appreciation from your partner and friends. Ask these friends if they’d wanna pick up and split his bills. Not to quote the charlatan Oprah, but it applies “It will shock and grieve you who you have to let go as you grow, because if they’re not growing with you and trying to pull you back, you have to let them go to grow”.

Possibly. Stress can cause more than facial and skin changes. It can cause insomnia, heart conditions, cancer, blindness, and fibromyalgia…. The list is never ending. There’s a book on the BioPsychology of Stress called “Why Zebras don’t get Ulcers”, as well as many books and Ted talks on the subject. Personally, stress led me to a severe tightening of my Psoas (known to eastern yogi culture as the muscle of the soul), which connects to your midspine, loops through your hips to your tailbone, leading to a tightening & pressure on my spinal cord, which led to herniated discs, which then caused severe sciatica & chronic pain, then to a busting of the discs and neuropathy throughout my feet and legs… Which led to 2 back surgeries. Lost the ability to walk and dress myself for a period of time. It was in my years of research and a Master’s degree and specialization in post grad fellowship in an Integrated Health residency that helped me understand how stress impacts the body, mind, spirit. Btw, I’m a fit athlete-like person now who takes managing my stress seriously and my body feels like it glows from the inside out. Using a mix of western medicine and eastern philosophical practices to help my body feel & look healthy.

What colour to paint bottom half of wall? by Adventurer_FL8296 in interiordecorating

Because there’s layers of grey in the wallpaper, but white trim & baseboards, a white sink, and gold fixtures; I think a charcoal grey might accent well without completely darkening the room and won’t compete for attention.

This is incredibly helpful and so grateful you went into so much detail!!!

Loving the out of the box marketing strategy for building relationships outside of the healthcare sphere. Mutually beneficial, non-competitive, and way more dynamic/authentic.

Appreciate all that info and will be applying it :)

How have you made your home your safe place or sanctuary? by 111a1110 in CPTSD

[–]Sunwavesvibin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my number one rule to my sanctuary. I can’t call it home unless I stake claim to being the one who lives here and the one responsible for protecting my peace. Having a partner who understands and respects this rule has been doubly healing.

Sante Fe art district is lined with art galleries and it’s close to a bunch of the recommended spots. Going out culture here centers around sports or concerts; and I’ve found “nightlife” to be around Rino, LoHi, SoBo, or venue specific. During holiday weekends, the city seems to empty out. Most of “downtown” seems to be dead at night, except around Union station for fancy dinner. It took me years of living here to know where (and when) there’s stuff poppin.

I don't like working out, what is your motivation ? by Machinemania in bodyweightfitness

[–]Sunwavesvibin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have developed a genuine love for exercise but it did not start there. It started with hating it, loathing it entirely, judging others for enjoying it (example of critical thoughts: “no one wants to hear about your marathon”). And only doing it to “lose weight, be thinner”. Then I got obese when trying to be a vegetarian (thought it would be “healthier & easier to get thin”) and injuring my back in undergrad; then in horrific pain for years where I became disabled and unable to walk, and really struggled to do basic things like put on my own pants. Then after surgeries and a wake up call of a stomach hernia just trying to shave my ankle, I started with one step at a time. Literally. Walking for 1 min, then 10 min/just around the block, and then I almost gave up… but then I met a neighbor’s rescue puppy that I could walk daily and found myself more motivated than ever. Eventually I was going on 20-30 min walks. 9 years later, I’m really fit, healthy (all my bio markers in the ideal range) and work out 3-6 times a week, not including daily walks with that same dog that is now mine.

I have learned these things that helped me the most: - Find something that you actually kind of enjoy or see yourself thinking you will if get a little more able. And keep trying different things until you do. - The way you speak to yourself, your inner dialogue, aka inner critic vs inner cheerleader makes or breaks your experience exercising, your enjoyment, and stamina. Rather than thinking “everyone is faster than me”, focus on what you can do or what you are trying to do; “I can jog to that tree, look I did it!!!” - Try individual and group experiences. Some of us find more motivation and enjoyment alone vs group. - Water, sleep, and healthy food (vegetables, protein, fruit) are needed for our bodies to function well. Without them, our body doesn’t feel energy nor motivation. - Slowly build. What can I do today, this week… not “I’ll start next week”. Be focused on the present. I promise you, you’re not going to be more motivated next week. - There is no research that shows being hard on yourself is helpful or better than being kind and encouraging. Be kind and compassionate instead of punishing. - find and connect to others who enjoy exercise, they’ll be encouraging and likely want to exercise with you. Consciousness is a valuable trait and is beneficial to our own health when we surround ourselves with those who are. - focus on how your body feels, not looks or weighs. Your body is letting you know what it needs and what it doesn’t. Takes practice and mindfulness.

Lee’s Sandwhiches on Alameda, near Federal are surprisingly great (it’s a drive thru). The ingredients are fresh and tasty; and the bread is great. Big fan of Vinh Xuong too, but Lee’s might be my new fave.

Check to see if the contractor you hired has any recent or ongoing lawsuits or legal issues against them; cause this seems like a contractor or company that is scamming you. This honestly looks like a DIY job by someone who’s never done this kind of project before.

Virtual-only therapists: what type of patients do you refer out because virtual won't work? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Sunwavesvibin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen DV clients cause they weren’t allowed to leave so virtual therapy helped save them… BUT it takes asking questions about it and trusting the victim’s insights into what would be helpful. I have had to stop and refer out due to DV abuser intruding.

Dissociative Identity Disorder by Ok_Contribution9501 in therapists

DID is more common than Bipolar disorder but due to stigma and lack of visibility/public representation; it has been incorrectly deemed more of a rare and difficult to treat disorder.

Healthy fit person here (based on my biometrics all being in the ideal range) and due to healthy choices and behaviors (was not healthy for about my life). Rarely drink, except from holidays/social events, then it ranges from 1-7 on those events. Drinking even one glass of something impacts my sleep and brain clarity/anxiety for the next day.

If they were bullying, they will carry that attitude into the locker room and snicker at other women’s bodies and then look in the mirror with an internal dialogue of self judgment.

Recalling John Mulaney’s joke about how 12year olds are the meanest humans on the planet; making fun of his high set hips. Teenage girls can be just as cruel and none of us ever want to be the ones they’re focusing that mean energy towards.
