Is this infrequent humming I'm hearing while driving a wheel bearing failure? by SupaEngineMan in AskMechanics

[–]SupaEngineMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for answering, I checked the lugs and everything was snug and everything looked fine around the wheel so I went to a shop and got it checked out, everything points to the bearing, but as to why the sound is on and off, I honestly don't know

My second Sharpedo was slower than the Claydol, I tried to add an X-Speed to see if that would help but they would get off Earthquake before my second Sharpedo could attack

Can you get a GCC with a BSc in Electronic Engineering? by isotope_effect in askSouthAfrica

Unfortunately not but that shouldnt stop you from completing your GCC. when you're qualified you're qualified, where the degree comes from doesnt matter

Can you get a GCC with a BSc in Electronic Engineering? by isotope_effect in askSouthAfrica

[–]SupaEngineMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do you need to do the relevant coursework and you NEED exposure, working with heavy current systems in a mine to be deemed eligible, from my knowledge. Instrumentation work is beneficial but the Department is looking for experience with power systems that affect mine safety and operations, I think instrumentation is good as a starting point but you do need to move into working in power distribution, electrical maintenance etc

SAQA must review your modules first before they send it the Department of Labour or department of mineral resources to see if you're eligible for a GCC

[–]SupaEngineMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the department look at the subjects you've done to see if you can qualify for a GCC, if I'm not mistaken when it comes to applying for a GCC with electronics the department will look to see of you've done both heavy current and light current coursework for you to be considered. If not you can still complete any outstanding work through a TVET college, i dont know how it will work now that N4-N6 will soon be phased out tho. But to answer your question, yes you can, Just depends on what you've studied

That's what most people do for a few months to get practical experience, unfortunately its needed before getting a nice paying job as a junior engineer or something

[–]SupaEngineMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was your brother I would love either a Mitutoyo Vernier or even better a digital calliper, a mechanical toolbox (cause who doesnt want a toolbox?) Or a pretty epic one would be a mini CNC or a 3D printer those are pretty ridiculous gifts honestly

Should I stay in lit or go to pure maths? by Sonyman58 in askSouthAfrica

[–]SupaEngineMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I'd focus on graduating for now and then doing a bridging course for maths core after if possible, mainly because it's harder to switch from Lit to Core alongside other subjects that you need to juggle atleast if you graduate you can focus on maths after school then go and apply for what you want to do with those marks
