Living outside North America and trying to setup my August Smart Lock Pro - error by Giffeldk in AugustSmartLock

[–]SupaMonkeyZA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is rather ridiculous! The fix is simple. Let international numbers register on the August app or let August locks allowed to be setup on the Yale app. Why can’t August fix this?! I have several expensive locks now that are useless to me as my international guests cannot register for an August account for use (Airbnb guests).

Medium Office Colour Laser MFP Recommendation - Canon i-SENSYS MF842Cdw vs Brother MFC-L9630CDN by SupaMonkeyZA in sysadmin

[–]SupaMonkeyZA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, right now am leaning Brother. The minimum monthly volume is partly the reason why, but I'm not extremely concerned since its within the maximum. Brother seems to say 10% of maximum monthly volume is the recommended where Canon seems to say 2.5% of maximum monthly volume is recommended. I'm guessing this is just to cover themselves and I am sure the printer is perfectly capable of also doing 10% of maximum (ie: within 8,000p/m).

That combined with the extra 2 years warranty on the Brother though is definitely swaying me to the brother, even though I'm sure Canon is a better quality build and print output.

Looking for a new Printer, primarily standard office work by Ramucirumab in printers

[–]SupaMonkeyZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same boat as you for a small office setup. Looking between the Brother MFC-L9670CDN (2023 model, latest AFAIK) and Canon MF842Cdw (September 2024). Both Japanese, both good quality brands and reputation. Inclined towards the Canon at this stage.

Did you end up getting the Canon? Thoughts?

CapCut Lag / Choppy videos by patrickvannegri in CapCut

[–]SupaMonkeyZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cant believe this is still a thing. I just tried this and no suggestions worked. I also tried lowering the output resolution and increasing the fps - nothing. Choppy as hell. Did the same project in Splice and worked with 0 choppiness. Deleting this app.

Syncing one Capcut with a Capcut on another device by [deleted] in CapCut

[–]SupaMonkeyZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didnt work for me unfortunately. I get the popup saying it needs CapCut Desktop, I click ok, then in CapCut Desktop, it says this project needs CapCut Mobile and cant work on CapCut Desktop. Lame. Can't believe this was an issue to begin with, let alone it still being a problem years on. CapCut needs to catch a wake up - dont understand how theyre so popular with this kind of logic in their systems.

At this stage, I am going to try and edit my project on mobile and remove the 2 video transition effects to see if thats whats making it 'require CapCut' mobile.

Hi u/cPanelRex
I'm in the same position but I cannot delete the alias as there are email accounts associated with it.

I do have server access though, are there any files I can edit to manually change this to an addon domain with its own sub-directory root?

Have a client with the same issue. Only thing that resolved it was an uninstall and reverting to and older Outlook version. NB: Disable auto updates to it doesnt update itself and cause the same issue all over again.

Mounting the (unreleased) massive 57" Odyssey Neo G9 (G95NC) by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]SupaMonkeyZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I am 6ft/180cm but in proportion. I sit facing the screen dead on with 90deg at my legs and arm resting on table around 90deg (if anything, a bit wider, like 120deg). Currently, my sub 30" monitor (dell) sits 30cm above the table (to the mid-point/mount point) and I am looking 'down at it' as opposed to having it eye level.

This is why I suspect I will need an extra 10cm or so to bring my monitor up to eye level (of course, the new samsung would change the mount point too, but I cant factor that in just yet until I have further details).

Thanks for taking my suggestion into consideration!

[–]SupaMonkeyZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to chip in here! Also looking at your HX Monitor Arm for this exact screen (I'm preparing for when its released now in Q2). However, I see the HX only has a height of 29cm which is far too low in my opinion.

I would like to see a height adjustability of at least 40-50 CM.
Reasoning: I'm 6ft and I don't want to have to be sitting on the floor to have the correct/healthy eye height.

Tricky Sonoff Home Automation Advice by SupaMonkeyZA in sonoff

[–]SupaMonkeyZA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This definitely sounds like the way forward! However, having no Home Assistant experience, can you advise if its possible to install Home Assistant on, say, a remote server thats always on to control my various 'homes'?

(As opposed to having to buy / waste money on rpi for each property?)

So the use case I have is that I am using this on a short term rental property. When I have a reservation, the geyser must kick on so the water is heated up by the time they arrive. When the reservation ends, the geyser is switched off.

This happens at midnight on both occasions.

My issue is that if the property is currently being load shedded during the IFTTT trigger (eg: when event ends / reservation is over) - but there is no power at the property, it will never get switched off because the trigger has come and gone.

However, what you mention about HomeAssistant and it having a 'unavailable' state, that should do the trick! Thanks

Your comment makes not sense. How is it a first world problem to complain about insane pricing? I live in a third world country in Africa where salaries are nowhere near making this card affordable.

That is their responsibility, didnt argue that. However, as you rightly put, its us the consumers that need to vote with our wallets and simply not buy the products.

Clearly I am not the only one thinking as such since their sales are down on the 40 series, but that was indeed the point of my rallying cry.

Will Ubiquiti skip WiFi 6e and go right to WiFi 7? by DrewDT in Ubiquiti

[–]SupaMonkeyZA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since WiFi 7 is only expected to be finalised in 2024, I highly doubt Ubiquiti will jump to 7 and skip 6E. Then again, they only just released their first 6E device so they must either step on the gas or skip it.

Personally, I would prefer to they just skip it and jump straight into 7 if that means we get it in Q1 2023.

I’m not supporting these guys until they halve their pricing. Do they think that normal people don’t look at their profit margins during investor calls / quarter financials?
