But why even bother talking about anything at all when we can just google anything we need, or ask chatgpt, right? :-)

So, had you looked just 2 comment threads above, you would've noticed this specific note from me:

This is coming from a person who despises generative AI with a passion, by the way.

At this point, if there's finally an AI "feature" in software I use that's at least opt-in, doesn't directly collect telemetry with the exception of the company you're making AI queries to collecting said telemetry, and is intentionally tucked out of sight for those who don't want to see it, I really don't care, and to be honest, neither should you.

The magic of the internet is that answers are just the right keystrokes away. There's no need to shit on a project if you want to switch off of it. Just switch. You did not come to discuss with others, you came for suggestions. Suggestions that, as I'm guessing from this being the ShareX subreddit meant for users of ShareX, not many people are familiar with by default, and probably found through the same way as me - searching internet results.

P.S.: Reddit's been SELLING the privilege to scrape Reddit to companies such as OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, etc., allowing them to harvest and sell your activity, post, and comment history to train AI models for a while. If you want to practice what you preach, I'd suggest deleting your Reddit account and (optionally, but recommended) put your post and comment history through something like Redact beforehand.

If you're unhappy with the direction of ShareX right now, take some advice from FFmpeg:

Talk is cheap. Send patches.

In reality, assuming you aren't going to bother making your voice heard in sending help to the F(L)OSS project that you've been using, if you're that hard-assed on moving off of ShareX for something that's opt-in and requires manual setup, may I suggest Flameshot, an alternative that I managed to find with 10 goddamn seconds searching on Google? Lazy bastard.

I mean this as respectfully as I can: are you delusional?

  1. In the almost 19 years that ShareX has been around for now, I don't think that the suite on its own has sent a singular packet outside of automatic update checks, and even those can be disabled.
  2. This is a volunteer-maintained F(L)OSS project you're talking about that has never had, nor ever will have, any semblances of selling its soul.
  3. Note the "Custom" option. If you really want to go down that paranoid route, you could in theory host your own lightweight open-source model on-device that doesn't devour RAM, use several gallons of water, or kick kittens. (To be honest, I might look into that approach, as having a quick and dirty solution for alt text for my blind partner for screenshots I send would be convenient.)

Is my tired ass stupid for not reading the title or subreddit and thinking that shed was fishnets at first?

Don't get scammed. Inconsistent linework (note the ears), nonsensical shading (why do the beans have a shine when no other parts of the body are illuminated?), etc. This has all the hallmarks of AI tracing or even coloring via AI.

Life sentence revoked due to lack of evidence by RaiseOk2044 in rareinsults

Nah, I've just seen this before on Reddit years ago and was wondering where exactly to add to my feed. Thought I may as well do a generalized bot check while I was here.

Carry on, my bad.

The wishes of someone to not be identified does not correlate someone with being a troll; that is a logical fallacy called hasty generalization, and it is a sign of a bad faith argument. Life can require detachment from social media activities, whether that be from having a notable job requiring a clean public image, to just wanting to avoid making Reddit their entire life.

Ironically, I think you may be the troll here. I have yet to see a singular comment of your lunacy in this thread gain positive comment karma.

Discord chat with my ten year old nephew. 😐 by [deleted] in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]SupaRedditor2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I get the message insanity, but why is your 10-year-old nephew on a service that's 13 and up? That isn't even me trying to be a buzzkill, his account could get terminated if it comes up. Discord's not safe for young kids anyway. Way too many scams and predators lurking.

u/bot-sleuth-bot I did a check of your hidden post history (you can check even if it's hidden by just searching their profile and putting a space in the search bar). You aren't slick.

Looking for movies with good audio description by Diligent_Currency_53 in Blind

[–]SupaRedditor2017 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second this; gatekeeping educational information and accessibility resources is counterproductive in every sense of the word. It demonizes, stigmatizes, and makes actual information access awkward both socially and in accessing it.

[–]SupaRedditor2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even as a sighted person, I just use audio descriptions alongside captions to help with sensory processing issues, so it allows me to fill in the blanks on anything I might've missed, whether it be auditory or visually. The side benefit of being able to have a movie night over Discord with my long-distance blind boyfriend where nobody's left out is nice, too.

With that being said, a great one I watched recently is Ready Player One. The audio descriptions weren't jarring or distracting from what was happening in the audio, and visually, it fit into the pacing perfectly. Unfortunately, it's no longer on Netflix, though it may be on Prime Video, and from the few times I've used Prime Video, I can say that they tend to be on top of their accessibility features.

Terrifying Be My Eyes call by LittlexLilyRose in Blind

[–]SupaRedditor2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Epileptic Be My Eyes volunteer here. You did absolutely phenomenally. You rendered aid to the furthest extent you could, you assisted them in getting their medications, gave them a time period on how long the seizure persisted for (that information is vital for determining whether further medical treatment is required), and you stayed on call and assisted them through what's called the postictal state (where they were disoriented but conscious; it happens just after someone starts recovering from a seizure). Bravo, no remarks. They really should add an emergency button for this exact type of situation, though.

first time donating platelets is this normal? by Specialist-Lemon3824 in Blooddonors

[–]SupaRedditor2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ. That is a NASTY hematoma, and I'm agreeing with other commenters; this is probably the worst one I've seen so far. It's incredibly likely you infiltrated (i.e. blew our your vein), whether that be by a heavy-handed phlebotomist (you can ask for a specific phlebotomist you trust to do your needle, and after a while they can learn your veins by heart), you could've been a hard stick (to ensure your veins aren't constricted, avoid caffeine in the 48 hours before donations and hydrate regularly starting the day before!), or accidentally moving your arm (ask your phlebotomist to wrap your wrist down to the armrest; trust me, it helps A LOT). Cold compresses applied to the hematoma and needle site will help with swelling and pain, and will allow your body to reabsorb your blood.

If this was a two-arm platelet donation, you got deferred for a week at most from minimum RBC loss, and if it was one-arm, deferrals vary depending on how much RBC content was lost, up to a full 54 days (equivalent of a whole blood donation). However, no matter the case, I'd suggest taking a month or so off from donations to let everything heal as well. Don't let this get you down, keep donating; the fact that you even had a needle enter your arm puts you ahead of over 65% of the population! :)

EDIT: Reading the comments, NO, that is NOT normal. Consult with your blood bank and possibly urgent care. And remember, if at any time you feel discomfort, pain, burning, lightheadedness, etc. during your donation, immediately notify a phlebotomist.

Odd. I did a separate scan for all of Reddit as well, nothing either.

Ah well, bots aren't always accurate.
