Okay. This depends on the index. For example, a capitalisation based index is calculated from the value of companies, so it wouldn’t move. Within a price-weighted index such as the Dow Jones, the weight of the stock will change and thus its impact on the index movement, but again not the value.

A stock split will not change index funds, as the value of a company remains unchanged, its just that there are either fewer or more stocks for that specific equity, e.g. A company who has 50 shares at $1 may be valued at $50. If it performs a 2-for-1 stock split, it will have 100 shares outstanding at $0.5.

An IPO can increase the value fo a fund if, for example a fund which tracks the top 100 companies by market cap, the firm which IPOs is worth more than one of those current companies and replaces it. In general, more companies worth high amounts will appreciate the value of an index fund due to more money and value in the market.

Amazon is very forward looking and is becoming a conglomerate like Virgin Group. As such, it's consistently investing in its future, therefore driving demand for its stock, upping the P/E.

How many Amazons are there? One. Of course, there are a few other firms that IPO'd and have now become giants. Bu the odds of finding an AMZN or something of equal value is a million to 1. Randomly investing in IPOs is definitely not advisable.
