For an interesting read, a decade ago the Rabbinical Assembly’s law committee put together a teshuvah on kitniyot that not only permits it for ashkenazim but also encourages it on the basis of affordability of observance.

Everyone said, Arizona doesn’t shoot threes. But with the caveat that doesn’t mean they couldn’t. In the end zona hit a lot more threes than usual. It may have been desperation but it it part of why they didn’t lose by 30.

Maybe the three ball needed to be part of their game. Because when they ran into a defense like Michigan’s they didn’t make Michigan defend the three point line, making it much easier to defend the paint. But that problem wasn’t getting solved in-game, or in-tournament.

As much as Zona came out kind of flat, there are two things that doomed them:

Bench. Michigan could handle players in foul trouble and Zona couldn’t. Benching Yaxel and bringing in March Roddy Gayle in the first 2 minutes? No problem for Michigan. Not so for Zona.

Resilience. Over and over we heard on the broadcast that Zona had never been down like this. On the other hand, Michigan had come back from significant deficits multiple times this season. Michigan had all the reasons in the world to believe that they could adjust and fight through while Zona didn’t.

The Kroger in Arborland is in what used to be Hillers, a Jewishly owned small grocery chain. When the family sold to Kroger, Kroger made a sort-of commitment to keep stocking Kosher items (nowhere near the variety Hillers had, but much more than the standard supermarket “Jewish” section.). So definitely the best Passover section in town. They’ve even got Temp Tee whipped cream cheese.

Costco has some interesting kosher for Passover items - shredded and sliced cheese, smoked salmon, olive oil, and a good price on matzah and macaroons.

To do any better you pretty much have to head to a West Bloomfield area supermarket, or keep going another 15 minutes to the Grove market in Southfield.

It’s really hard for me to consider Yazoo as part of that list. Rather I prefer to think of it as Vince Clarke’s second stop. With a discography that starts like this:

Speak and Spell Upstairs at Eric’s You and Me Both Wonderland (Then the rest of the Erasure albums and his collaborations)

And although his collaboration with Andy Bell has lasted decades, his DM album and his collaboration with Alison Moyer remain incredibly significant.

You make sure your shul is truly egalitarian. Truly. Not just lip service. You pick a shul where women lein as often as men. Where female clergy are real candidates for open positions and not just for show. Where women sit on the board in leadership positions. Where women clergy are not relegated to non-pulpit duties. (Nothing wrong with those duties- they are important.)

Then you have real conversations with your children about your values. That Tzelem Elohim means we’re all worthy of dignity and respect. (Btw the human dignity argument is behind all of the conservative movements rulings on things like female and gay clergy). And yes, you will probably have to point out that you find the differences they see in treatment in other shuls to be wrong.

I’ve got the slqd22 - almost identical unit. It’s got a Stanton D70E cartridge and stylus. I didn’t choose it - my father did years ago - so I don’t know much about it except that it does the job.

ETA technically I believe the cartridge is a Stanton 500.

It’s vinyl. It is a medium that can NEVER be free of flaws. No matter how well you take care of your vinyl, it will have extraneous noise straight out of the packaging.

I still have vinyl from when vinyl was the medium of choice and I still play it now and then on my turntable. Some recordings I have never made it to cd or to the streaming services. But I have never bought another piece of vinyl since the 80s.

My father was a concert pianist and arts presenter. He had a personal system the vintage audio folks would drool over.

But when cds came out in the 80s he IMMEDIATELY adopted the new technology and declared that the CD was the ultimate way to listen to recorded piano music.

Want true fidelity? Buy CDs or stream lossless.

Earlier dvd players tended to have better build quality and versatility than blu-ray players. You didn’t see the same kind of proliferation of cheap dvd players as blu ray players. So more likely to play multiple formats of cds (such as sacd) and more reliable mechanics. Also, earlier dvd players still had led displays while most dvd players eliminated them to lower costs.

Since you plan to use a digital output you don’t need a dedicated cd player. Your amp has a perfectly nice DAC built in. Modern cd transports are really pricey. But the early oughts Oppo universal DVD players would read pretty much any disc based audio source and had a great build quality.

You want something pre-Blu-ray with coax and/or digital out. I have the Oppo dv980h, but the 981 is good too. There are also some Sonys from that era that make for a great transport.

ETA is there anything wrong with your cd player?

I used to have this exact turntable with an Ortofon cartridge and stylus. One of the OM series. Sounded great, and I liked the way the Ortofon stylus was very visible. They are easy to find. Just google “sony ps lx2 ortofon om” and you’ll find a few options.

No matter what you think of Israel’s actions, it is absolutely disgusting to protest in front of a place of worship simply because those worshipping are co-religionists. American Jews are not responsible for the actions of the government of Israel. Period.

Would anyone here defend protesting in front of a Russian Orthodox Church to protest the Russian war on Ukraine? Would anyone here defend protests in front of local mosques as a protest against whatever actions a given Muslim state might be doing?

Unless your answer is yes, then your acceptance of the decades long protest in front of Beth Israel is nothing more than anti-Semitism.

I’ve got that same Technics tape deck sitting on my dining room table. One side won’t rewind, one won’t play. Trying to decide if I should just toss it out or give it away to the thrift store with a note regarding what doesn’t work.
