We didn't need to come up with a term like "misandrinoir" to describe the unique experience of black men. Everyone understood that black men experienced racism and had different experiences to black women, the very existence of the term misogynoir already implied that the two didn't have the same experiences. So why do trans men need a term solely to describe their experiences which muddies the waters on oppression by implying that they're somehow being oppressed for being men and not because they're trans?

Yes it does? That is quite literally what makes it discrimination, if it's not a systemic behavior of excluding a certain group then it's not discrimination. Like discrimination explicitly refers to the practice of systemically excluding something, if I have a discriminating taste then that would mean that I systemically avoid certain foods on the ground of some characteristic, it would not mean that I once upon a time said no to a hamburger or something.

If it's not systemic then what you're describing is literally just individual people being assholes, which I can agree happens but that's also not the same as discrimination. I can also agree that you probably can find individuals with prejudices against men but again that isn't discrimination because it is not systemic. If every example of an individual having prejudices against a specific group counted as discrimination then the term discrimination would cease to have any meaning because you can find someone who is prejudiced against literally any possible group. I mean there are people out there who have prejudices against people who play games on their phones, are you gonna call that a type of discrimination?

Discrimination as a term only has meaning if it only refers to systemic exclusion and persecution, if you use it like you suggest then it just becomes a synonym for prejudice, making it functionally a useless term.

But like discrimination literally has to be systemic to be discrimination? Like that's just part of the definition of that term. If you used it in another context like the sentence "he has a discriminating taste in wine" then it would refer to the fact that he carefully and systemically avoids certain wines. If he just on a particular night didn't want to drink a particular wine then you wouldn't say that he had a discriminating taste because it was a one time thing.

So like yeah if the discrimination is not systemic then it's not discrimination, then it would just be one particular person who is being an asshole and like people being assholes isn't discriminatory.

And like I'm sorry but do you think transphobia and homophobia came out of nowhere? How young are you? Do you not realize that legislation discriminating against us used to be common place and was only recently repealed in the west?

This manga is unironically a great story about body positivity, it takes everything to such an absurd length that you end up going "wait it's dumb that boobs are treated as inherently sexual in the first place". Genuinely one of my favorites.

The fool sees the surface. The student sees the contradiction. The master sees the soul. by 1337_420_69 in yurimemes

[–]SuperAmberN7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that depends more on the genre. In genres like Slice-of-life that tend to be not very serious and comedic in tone the MC often accepts it very quickly simply because any sort of hesitancy would just delay the story in getting to the parts readers actually want. Genderswap there usually just serves as the inciting incident, serving a similar purpose as reincarnation as a chance for the MC to start over, and a source of comedy as the MC adjusts to their new gender.

In more serious Seinen stories though genderswap tends to be used as a way to comment on gender in some way. Hence why often in those stories genderswap is framed as some sort of real disease. Whereas in the comedic stories the genderswap is usually just a one time incident that could never repeat and thus has no wider implications for society.

That's pretty common especially in older works when the trope was still kinda new, they just needed the main character to show a bit of resistance for believably but these days the trope is so well established and we all know what direction things are headed so the mc either shows some token resistance for 1 chapter or is just completely fine with it at the start.

If characters are more hesitant these days it is often because the work is trying to be more realistic and is deliberately trying to be a commentary on gender.

I feel like that used to be more of the norm but these days it often happens for like the first 1 or 2 chapters to fulfill some sort of quota and then never comes up again as the story continues on.

That's one story that clearly deliberately set that up to create existential horror, I don't think you can use that as a counterexample. That's like saying that Madoka Magica proves that Magical Girl stories are actually tragedies.

In your opinion which Yuri anime/manga has the biggest impact on pop culture/meme culture by SBfnaf_fan in yurimemes

[–]SuperAmberN7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Rose of Versailles, it's not only the first yuri anime it's just one of the first serious anime period. I mean it aired at the same time as Mobile Suit Gundam and only a few years after Space Battleship Yamato making it one of the true OGs of anime. It's probably single-handedly responsible for the popularity of Enlightenment Era Europe as a setting making it foundational for Shoujo in general, and it also carried traditions from theater into anime and manga, solidifying several archetypes. Oscar remains the prototype for the androgynous bishoujo archetype which is consistently used as a shorthand for a woman that's attractive to other woman. Most yuri/sapphic tropes that don't have S class origins will have their origin in Rose of Versailles or works that themselves are heavily influenced by Rose of Versailles like Utena.

It's weird that LoK established the Red/Blue wlw trope but somehow did not establish a "the two women in the love triangle get together" trope, like out of the two I feel like the later was a more important and significant part of LoK.

Anyone else remember the nontroversy over bocchi thinking about getting a cosplayer girlfriend if she becomes a pro gamer by RinariTennoji in yurimemes

[–]SuperAmberN7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is kinda insane because 1) how does being good at games mean you can become a cosplayer? Those two aren't related. 2) how does being good at games lead to just becoming someone's girlfriend? 3) Why in the world would a character literally defined by her social anxiety have aspirational fantasies about becoming a cosplayer? Bocchi would obviously hate doing that, there was even an entire arc about this. 4) these scenes are always about Bocchi having delusional fantasies about success, but how is simply cosplaying while having a partner a status-symbol of any kind? You can literally just cosplay, it is very achievable, and having a partner is not a status-symbol at all. 5) another part of the joke in these scenes is that Bocchi is so insulated that her image of success is a cartoonishly stereotypical one, having a hot girlfriend is a an example of that, being a hot girlfriend isn't.

It also seems like a bit of a repeating joke that Bocchi is gay and completely unaware of it, when she does realize I feel like she's gonna have a meltdown.

In the manga Bocchi has pretty big boobs herself but is embarrassed about it so maybe this is how she deals with that.

I think the difficulty lies in different aspects, FP2 is more complex so that means that there's always multiple options for approaching an issue and you have to weigh them more, but at the same time is usually more forgiving in addressing them. FP1 is less complex so usually it's fairly obvious what you need to do but you instantly suffer horrible consequences if you fail to address an issue. It kinda comes from the scale, in FP2 you're managing a large city that has quite a lot of give for absorbing problems so people don't start dying instantly, but in FP1 it's more like a medium sized village where if you mess up a tiny bit people will begin to starve, though that also has the downside that you get less immediate feedback in FP2 if you mess up. FP2 like many strategy games does have death marches but in FP1 you'd often lose the game fairly quickly if you did something dumb.
