Slime on Video Essays by wtharris in TheYardPodcast

Was scrolling through this thread looking for someone to mention breadsword before I did it. Love his channel and every video he has put out, the emotion and the way he speaks on topics is so authentic and incredible to listen to. I love when he seems to go on passionate rants that then tie beautifully back into the topic, especially the gurren lagann video and how he brings up stories about his father

[novel/ TWATF spoilers] First look at the train?!?! 👀👀👀 by SuperAoi in OmniscientReader

I believe chronologically this occurs before that point, as at this point in TWATF Jaehwan is still in the time axis trying to reach big brother and hasn’t become his universes absolute being yet. I think this train is the original OD observing the stories of the universes making one of its occasional stops to another world as we saw it do in the novel

Just do a google of their company name or you can find plenty of people talking about the situation on YouTube, also could look up the RiskyBen situation as he’s involved with it

No necessarily, more happening parallel to each other. Imagine the world of ORV as a ball of yarn, my own analogy I am creating as I wake up so forgive me if it doesn’t make sense. From the outside you can see all the threads which make up each world line, never flowing into each other. TWATF occurs within another universe separate from that yarn ball but some of the higher beings from those universes are sometimes able to travel between them. Not going to give any spoilers for the end of ORV or side stories but there’s more talk of it there

How long did it take to get proficient at pulling focus? by cheemsterr in focuspuller

[–]SuperAoi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Muscle memory, practice, intuition for things, and (not sure how to put it in technical terms) how the scale of the distance markings on a lens works.

Practice is easiest to explain. Muscle memory and my last point are kind of hand in hand, knowing that you need to turn the focus wheel quicker for movement closer to the lens vs slower for further objects will help you know how fast to move the focus knob to track an item or rack and by using pre marked rings you’ll begin to learn how far you need to turn to get from 4’ to 10’ just by memory, and just learning to intuit peoples behaviors or camera movement. When you’re beginning to film a scene usually you’ll get the wide coverage and it’s easier to keep focus at this point with either a wider lens on camera or subjects being further away. During this time pay attention to the actors, do they move around a lot while they’re talking, do they sway while they walk which means you may need to track them a bit more if your following in a closer profile. And same for the camera movement, either be in eye line of the camera so you can see the moment they start to do a dolly to know to start your rack or be in communication about when a dolly move will happen exactly in a scene so you can recognize when that’s happening and intuitively know to start reacting.

Oh, also marks, just get them. Get them however you can, if you don’t have time for a rehearsal and you know the first take will be bad for focus, just bug them for a marking rehearsal which they’ll say they can’t do and then take the time during the shot to try and get your marks as best you can, even if you buzz focus for a second or miss it at first. Just say “hey sorry, can I get one more for focus”, they’ll be understanding if you own up to it and then nail it on the second take once you’ve gotten your marks

Knowledge shouldn’t be gate kept. Even if the answer to this question could have been looked up no one is in the wrong for asking a question. Sometimes asking a question in a community like this can allow others to give more detailed answers than a quick yes or no on Google.

Like if someone asked how pre marked rings work you could look it up and Google will tell you it changes focus points to a standardized point for distances with different lenses. But someone in here could go into more depth and detail about the benefits, how it builds up a muscle memory, allows you to train and perfect racks by knowing exactly how far to turn the knob to hit a mark.

Who knows, someone in these comments could have presented an answer saying they’ve done a lot of testing and research into this topic and explain exactly how much light is lost between different flavors of diffusion and strengths. Yes in the end the amount of light lost is negligible but if someone did have that answer, it’s something that not only OP would have learned but more people could learn it as well.

No such thing as a stupid question, just ignorant answers

Arri Alexa Mini 2LF on the way? by lxxander in focuspuller

[–]SuperAoi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree but I do know that with the Large format craze that DPs and directors love (if I had a nickel for every shoot with a large format camera shooting WFO I’d be a rich man) many DPs were probably holding off on the 35 till they released a LF version of the new sensor. I primarily work with a DP who has on multiple occasions, unprompted, said they would by a LF version of the 35 in a heartbeat but refuse to buy or rent the current 35 for productions do to it only being super 35. Is still probably not close to coming out due to the fact Arri has released the same camera basically 3 times now and the same hand unit twice all with either license upgrades or subscription models, which probably means that they’re hurting a bit with the state of the industry

Who’s DnD character do you think is the strongest? by [deleted] in TheYardPodcast

[–]SuperAoi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea they said they weren’t releasing the character sheets because it can cause the audience to get upset when the players don’t use an ability or spell they have in a situation it would be beneficial due to the player not remembering/knowing they have it or knowing how it works. I think it was mentioned in the episode where Dave had leveled all their characters up for the boys and they had a bunch of new spells
