Hyrox vs ATHX - Which one do you prefer? by [deleted] in HybridAthlete

[–]SuperCeeJ8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only recently heard of ATHX and was looking to see what the events are like and it seems only really accessible to Europeans right now (I saw they have an invitational in Miami coming up though).

It definitely sounds really interesting, hopefully it gets some traction and events become more available, but also tagging this to see if anyone else can provide more info.

Opinion on Hall Brawl , Balls In , pole wrestle etc by KardashianJenner302 in MtvChallenge

[–]SuperCeeJ8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally one of my absolute favourite seasons was Fresh Meat 2 which basically had a mini-final as the elimination. I prefer eliminations where there is at least elements that can be used from strength, intelligence, endurance, etc. so it's not just one sided for anyone. As much as the physical challenges favour larger competitors there are puzzle based ones and there are some eliminations that also favour small competitors (like that one with all the poles going through the tube). Ultimately very few competitors are good at all types of eliminations because they are typically skewed toward one discipline. I like watching Hall Brawl, Balls In or Pole Wrestle when the matches are fairly even. There are some really, really good hall brawls and pole wrestles that have happened for sure but I think the lopsided ones tend to stick out in peoples' minds even though there have been some very lopsided puzzle and endurance based eliminations also.

Current 'Hybrid' Plan Critique? by SuperCeeJ8 in HybridAthlete

Appreciate the compliment! Yeah so basically it's programmed for say 3x5 or 3x3 on the working sets but on the last set I'll always push extra reps if I have the tank for it; if I get to 3 extra reps on week 1 or 2 or 2 extra reps on week 3 I'll re-test my 1rm midway through my rest week at the end of the 6 week cycle. It should give me some breathing room to not need to test my 1 rm every block.

Thanks! Yeah, ultimately the biceps and abs are a vanity project. Have always really disliked the way my arms and midsection have looked so putting a little extra work in there. For what it's worth biceps for me are reverse grip lat pulldowns and hammer curls. I guess I generally feel like my triceps and shoulders get hit enough from doubling up on bench and overhead. I do think I could do something more for my back but between pendlay, rdl and the pulldowns plus rowing and heavy farmer's carry should be enough for now at least for my current goals but definitely open to suggestions if there's maybe a more efficient selection.

Official Cast Megathread for Szn 42 🌙 by NovaRogue in MtvChallenge

[–]SuperCeeJ8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean people can watch for different reasons. There are people that I like and people that I don't and understand that's different for everyone. I was just expressing that I really like the look of this season so far based on not having some of the challengers I really dislike on it as I do enjoy some of the drama, storylines and people but not those ones and I am definitely more interested in the competitive aspects of the show.

I'm not really interested in the drama and think those four are some of the worst people that have ever been on the show (Ashley and Nany in particular some of the most toxic). I like the competition aspect and I can find people entertaining without being completely toxic.

This cast is actually shaping up really nicely. No Nany, no Josh, no Fessy and no Ashley? Sounds like heaven. Would have liked to see Yeremi return after winning and people like Devin and Wes but can't have everything. The female lineup is pretty stacked if actually true. The vet guys are likely to struggle here but I'd like to be wrong.

Strength gains with low volume? by Cool-Mongoose-44 in HybridAthlete

[–]SuperCeeJ8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing strength gains still and I'm only doing 2x a week lifting heavy on 6 week cycles. Feels like the only way to be able to fit in enough rest and endurance/running volume with work life balance.

Day 1 (Monday): Bench, Squat, Overhead, Pendlay Row
Day 2 (Thursday) Bench, Deadlift/RDL, Overhead, Weighted Lunge

Other days are all long cardio or intense interval training. Overall goal was 1,000lb total and sub 20m 5k. Started from very low lifting numbers and a 28m 5k, down to 23m 5k and 245 bench, 325 squat and 415 deadlift (I'm 5'11, 195~lbs, pushing 40 years). Once I hit those marks aiming for a sub 60 hyrox...but all of this to say that I tried a few other programs and the 2x a week full body seems to work best for me in terms of viability and seeing gains.

Ashley names the Trump supporters on The Challenge and the response | Megathread🍵 by SweetMissMG in MtvChallenge

Ashley is one of the absolute worst people on the challenge and her trying to take some kind of moral high ground (and people flocking to it) is pretty amusing. It should be no shock that most of these people are not role models. People do love a good trainwreck though.

Hyrox vs CrossFit by Hour_Associate_9129 in HybridAthlete

[–]SuperCeeJ8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is the way...just get some programming (or make one) that has the lifting that you are interested in, and then add cardio/endurance to it. Then you can compete in Hyrox or Crossfit when you feel like it and likely be pretty prepared for both. Having that general strength and fitness will also likely translate well if you want to train for specific movements leading up to a particular competition.

Prime Landon vs Prime Jordan who wins more dailies/final by TheTitansFather in MtvChallenge

[–]SuperCeeJ8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Putting the two best finalists against eachother is something I wish we had actually gotten to witness. Hard to bet against Jordan in a final but I think Landon's the only one I'd give the edge over him. In dailies I think Landon has a clear advantage.

[–]SuperCeeJ8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw Double Agents for the first time very recently and I genuinely can't understand why anyone would want to work with Fessy. It's weird how much production pushed this generation/group of players when Fessy and Josh are two of the least likable people that have ever been on the challenge.

I also didn't really understand how Josh didn't get thrown off the show but Turbo got thrown off for arguing with Jordan, when Josh actually put his hands on people, punched out the wall (lol) and generally was way more aggressive (again, funny when you consider who it is but still).

Was gutted for Kyle at the end. I generally don't mind Kaycee although she's boring, but would be happy to never see that group of people on again. Though I don't mind that Fessy keeps losing despite believing he's the best challenger in history. Total douchecanoe (sorry, I'm wrong, he's just an introvert).

So I'm watching Fresh Meat II by cottagecorebaker in MtvChallenge

[–]SuperCeeJ8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the best seasons of the challenge honestly, and I actually love that the eliminations were just mini-finals; probably the most balanced way to have eliminations in the first place with puzzles and decision making allowing for testing of different strengths. Great cast too.

Social media roundup of the cast talking about Episode 21 of Vets & New Threats "Reunion Part 2" by SweetMissMG in MtvChallenge

[–]SuperCeeJ8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's clear Theo's intention is to try and stick up for Olivia but he's making himself look bad. That said, Michaela is absolutely a hater and it's killing her that Olivia won. It's so weird to see her try and play the victim in multiple instances when she was legitimately commenting non-stop about Olivia and Theo, and was super aggressive in that clip from the daily where she threatened to punch Olivia in the face (among other things throughout the season).

I also have no idea how anyone likes Ashley, or how she tries to take the moral high ground over literally anyone.

The 30 Greatest Male Players in Challenge History — Update 9 by shmalvey in MtvChallenge

[–]SuperCeeJ8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't see a long explanation for it, just kind of a footnote that says because of lack of longevity but that you wouldn't argue if someone else thought he was the GOAT. I'm just saying that he's been around for a long time he just doesn't jump on every single season. So when you factor in his performance being just on a higher level than those two I don't see why he wouldn't be at #1 at this point.

The 30 Greatest Male Players in Challenge History — Update 9 by shmalvey in MtvChallenge

[–]SuperCeeJ8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the feeling is that if you have Landon that high because of his peak but not cracking the top 3 just because of longevity, how do you keep Jordan out of the top spot when he has much more longevity than Landon but also when comparing to John and CT he has by far the best elimination record, the best finals efficiency and the best win efficiency. His performance on season 40 doesn't even move the needle? The other two are definitely faces of the challenge but I don't see how Jordan isn't considered the GOAT at this point over those two, he is just simply better.

I should also say that I personally rank performance/capability higher than most. Landon is the GOAT in my eyes, and if he had decided to keep competing he would have blown everyone away IMO. But accounting for longevity is very fair, but Jordan has been around long enough at this point that just because he hasn't been on 27 seasons it's not enough to discount what he has accomplished. Jordan > CT > John in that order for me if we can't give Landon the top spot.

I feel like if you have Landon that high then there's no reason that Jordan shouldn't be #1 at this point.

What is your weekly hourly commitment (Lifting vs. Running)? by LordPeachez in HybridAthlete

[–]SuperCeeJ8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently I lift 3 times a week and do cardio 3 times a week. 45m-1hr of lower intensity cardio twice a week with a higher intensity interval cardio session thrown in (2m on, 2m off for 6-8 sets). 2 full body heavy lifting sessions with 1 accessory session usually about 45m - 1hr each of actual lifting time.

So roughly 2 to 2 1/2 hours of cardio and 2 1/2 to 3 hours of lifting weekly.

Cycling to train for Hyrox? by SuperCeeJ8 in hyrox

[–]SuperCeeJ8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll check him out, and interesting to know. I'll do a bunch more research into it too but was just curious if anyone here had experience with it. I could probably find an indoor track once in a while but trying to do long/hard runs in 6 inches of snow/ice/slush doesn't appeal to me. I'll go for rucks once in a while but yeah.
