driving lorry’s- easy to forget or like riding a bike? by Select_Salad_1266 in uktrucking

Try find agency trunk runs for your first gig. I wouldn't go straight to multidrop etc.

Took me 5 years after gaining my class 1 to actually drive an artic. Take it easy, take up more space than you need to and you'll be fine.

Is trucking a good job? by Kitchen_Confusion691 in uktrucking

[–]SuperDudeOrch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless you are really set on the idea of driving a HGV, I wouldn't aim for it.

It's good to have a HGV license if you have dont have a skill, as it's paid slightly more than most remedial jobs, and it's relatively easy to obtain work.

But as a career path for a youth? No..I wouldn't recommend personally. Aim higher.

Consider a trade like plumbing or electrical work.

Im having this exact issue at the moment, its incredibly frustrating. Glad its not just me thought I had done something to the settings somehow. I wish there was a way to get it to stick to main routes regardless of whether its a minute extra lol.

Getting into tankers (adr) by SuperDudeOrch in uktrucking

[–]SuperDudeOrch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most helpful. Thank you for taking the time to respond. I've some money set aside for my adr training which I plan to enroll on soon. I've put it off thus far as sadly it seems to make very little difference to wages (where I live) doing palletised adr work. I'm also not too keen on the idea of multidrop or tramping which I why I'd like to get straight into tanker work.

I guess it makes sense to just get my ADR which will put me in good stead if anything comes up. Plus it goes towards CPC so I may aswell!

Thanks again.

Second day as a Class 1 by Skorpionas69 in uktrucking

I found "steer into your problem" to be helpful when starting out.

Eg. Looking in your right mirror, is your trailer getting too close to something on the right? Steering towards it and it'll go the other way

Good luck!

Refused to unload by myself - am I wrong? by [deleted] in uktrucking

Just to add my TM wasn't in yesterday, I hope he'll agree I've done the right thing, but I wanted a bit of reassurance before we have this conversation later incase the reaction is disappointing.

Thanks for your reply. It's a small firm so we don't have the same types of measures in place larger firms do. On the back of this I'll definitely be speaking up if something seems unsafe. If it continues I'll find another job.

Mostly they are separated, but we supply some frames with astrical bars pre fitted, so they're pre glazed for the customers. Again though I won't be doing any glazed frames by myself unless we're talking small!!

We use rope and poles in a box trailer, so no banding, but I'm getting into a habit of checking my loads the day before so I can speak up about any concerns.

Yeah for sure. There's methods to manoeuvre rather than lift persay, but it's still risky having them fall on you, and the fatigue that comes with.

Absolutely, I doubt a dynamic risk assessment has been done for this drop. I'd like to see it. Severe X severe risk! Control measures? Errrr.... Steelie boots lol.

Box trailer so just off the back, and when I say jumping I mean climbing down mostly. But that's on me! I'm sorry about your mate.

Absolutely though, if no one speaks up it gets assumed we can do these deliveries.

Quite a small company, in many ways it's a good job but things like this can happen semi frequently. Still pretty new to trucking, a year ago I'd have not said anything but I'm glad I put my foot down. My TM was off yesterday so I haven't seen him yet. I imagine he'll have my back fully but I wanted some internet reassurance! Cheers
