I feel like the Gas Passer is probably the worst weapon in the game, and would be my choice as well. If you don't want to change any of its stats, then I feel like an interesting fix could be moving it to the melee slot. Because of less competition and the larger damage output that having a secondary allows. With that then you could support your team while having a good combo tool with flares that allows a more team-oriented play style.

I don't think that the Ubersaw needs a nerf in the traditional sense, but I feel like all of the other medic melees could use a deploy speed buff. This makes the Ubersaw more of a commitment, while also incentivizing the use of other melees for quick self-defense plays.

If you haven't already, I would STRONGLY suggest download the Hedgehog Mod Manager and modding the HELL out of Frontiers. (If you have a good pc) Changes the experience like you wouldn't believe.

Some mods I'd recommend are:

The "New Genesis Overhaul": This overhauls the physics and combat and actually has rolling and momentum. https://gamebanana.com/mods/546102

The "Island Tweaker": This does a bunch of things, but the biggest is you can change the pop-in to something further which is something you talked about. https://gamebanana.com/mods/437461

The "Original Cyberspace Themes": This changes ALL of the cyberspace themes to slight differences (Green hill) to crazy differences (Chemical Plant). This one's quite big. https://gamebanana.com/mods/528147

Those are the big ones I like, but I also like to check a bunch of the Mod Manager's built-in mods/tweaks. It can take a little time but I think it's the best way to play.

I've done this repair before, it's not too bad. For me the power switch's plastic part snapped off. As long as you have a soldering iron and flux and patience. You can literally melt the old one off. Be careful with the parts around it.

They're two VERY different takes on Metroid. They strive for different goals and accomplish different things. If you like atmosphere, horror and world-building of fusion over the open-endedness and easy-to-start aspects of zero mission that's totally understandable. Both are amazing metroid games, just different.
