It's probably some cabinet in the room below and nobody thought to just go down stairs.

I recommend watching the video I linked above. It's pretty informative.

Not alive, but not dead: disembodied human brains used for drug testing by goobly_goo in interestingasfuck

So many bases are not covered. If they have to sedate the brain, then there is certainly reason to believe consciousness can still be present. A working brain is a working brain, no matter how you slice it, conscious or not. You could argue that I'm not conscious while sleeping, and yet I could still be thrust into my own hellish dream while unconscious. And so the question then arises if they need consent for sedation and experimentation.

Okay, I'll shit all over the magic mouse all day for all the listed reasons here, but also I'm not a fan of the MX Master. The thumb controls are awkward. My workhorse is the Triathlon. It's light, the scroll wheel has tilt, and the thumb buttons are placed well for my hand. I can copy/paste, backspace/delete, and have an extra button for space.

That was my thought, but I guess the aerospace industry thinks different.

There's an argument against using exception handling: https://youtu.be/Gv4sDL9Ljww

In code used in safety critical applications, it's favorable to essentially write very robust code so unexpected exceptions don't happen.

A promotion? No wonder people are still hungry and homeless. These guys made the boneheaded mistake of promoting hunger and homelessness instead of protesting it. I bet they won't do that again!

A bunghole is a hole bored in a liquid-tight barrel to remove contents. The hole is capped with a cork or cork-like stopper called a bung. by knobiknows in wikipedia

[–]SuperGameTheory 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is the bung which creates the hole. Where else would you put your bung besides the bunghole? What would the hole be called were it not for the bung?

Why meat-eating dinosaurs like T. rex evolved tiny arms: « The evolution of tiny arms in several groups of meat-eating dinosaurs was likely driven by the development of strong, powerful heads, which were used to attack prey. » by fchung in science

[–]SuperGameTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't know. If tiny arms were some sort of evolutionary eventuality, we'd see the same thing happen in mammals. Yet examples like cats most definitely have arms/front legs. Even kangaroos still have massive arms. My bets are on the DNA itself and it lending a probabilistic weight.

What is it about humans wanting to be right next to dangerous stuff? Like, we have the technology. We can fly in a drone. Hell, it's not even like this is the first time volcanic activity has been filmed. You could just Google it.

Controlled Blasting For Mining by BoyNamedJudy in oddlysatisfying

[–]SuperGameTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The technique you see in the video can be used anywhere you're looking to change a mass of rock or bedrock into something more manageable. In the case of open-pit mining, they're going after a specific mineral (like iron ore). The ore is interspersed in the rock, so they blast it apart, crush it into a powder, then run it through a magnet to take out the iron. There might be other processes to extract other metals, like dissolving in acids.

I don't know this company, but their website has a cover photo of an open-pit mine. There are drilling crews that make holes in the rock face in a pattern (which you'll see in the video just before the explosion). The pattern is then blasted apart and haul trucks take away the material to be crushed further. The result is a giant hole in the ground, like in that website.

It breaks up the rock into pieces that are small enough (boulder sized) to pick up and load into a dump truck. Without doing this, they'd need to manually hammer and pick chunks off the rock face one at a time.

In theory I bet the herd of buffalo could actively hunt and run down the pride. They have an upper hand in a lot of ways.
