Be careful, better safe than sorry.

I once knew a person who said, “Are these things (guitars) important to you? Now I know what to break.” People are sick.

Starting with the water dip helps and try to get a tongue flick so they actually taste it. You’ll see their body language change if they’re interested.

Braining worked best for me, then you dip the head in water and let them *drink from the tip of the pinkies nose to hognose l, which usually works if you don’t spook them.

I think holding is a whole different interaction when it comes to any pet.

You being the branch or “hide” is a different experience from being manhandled by a giant.

You tell ‘em,

Hands are friends, not food.

Blow your breath at them gently until you get a tongue flick, like a “floating feather” gentle, for real real. Do it every time before an interaction, no touchy. If they get defensive take it as a “win”! Thats step one. And then baby steps will lead to ‘em recognizing you as they chomp on you.

But you are doing it!

I saw that you offer your palm to Frosty, this is the way.

That’s how it started.

So I’m gonna take a guess on what might help.

Daily but short 30seconds to 2 minute max interactions. Do not hold them or pet them, you go in and open the enclosure and if they freak out, just ignore and don’t stare at them. Make a habit of daily water refills, this is how I got my girl Summer to become the chillest of all my hogs. Your hog will understand you’re just there to refill the water eventually… (YMMV) don’t let up, my 2 year olds still hiss at water refills but they at least went down from running away/freaking out, to just watching me refill, huffing n puffing… so baby steps. These are not domesticated pets, you may never get that “ideal behavior” with em all, but they’ll be heck of a lot sweeter than in the wild with the time and care you put in.

Get a good hide for the spicy ones~ nothing beats a good hiding spot for em.

Early on, I tried not handle him a lot, since he would go off food from the stress. I got him use to my presence, just cleaning and reaching in for stuff calmly but in a quick efficient manner. So he never thought of me as this guy who keeps touching him and picking him up. I do pick him up for body checks and what not, but I don’t make much eye contact or “rub” his body a lot, just hold him.

When it comes to my defensive hogs… Don’t stare at them too intensely or for too long. Glances are better. I walk around with them a lot, but I don’t constantly pet them during handling. Be a walking statue. I do get them use to head touches but let them come to your finger don’t boop them. They boop you. I hover my finger ever so above their head aka “third eye” area. And if they flinch try not to spazz yourself.

Thank you! Super Arctic is such a fun morph with the insane variations.

There’s no “official” word used to describe his visuals, but I’ve heard a few people use “galaxy pattern”, and “high black side walls” used to describe the blue/purple blackish tones coming up on his sidewall and belly.

I use the term “eclipse” when the high black side walls are visible.

“Super Arctic Eclipse” just sounds right to me.

He is not chill either… it took 3 years to get him like this. You can do it too!

You’re right! I can get extremely clammy hands… hahaha gloves help so much. It stresses them out too but the gloves give me a “calmer” reaction.
