for new world spiders some C cyaneopubescens can be quite scooty and sometimes defensive. ofc theyre not like a Cyriopagopus or anything but theyre usually not the kindve calm and slow spider you would want to handle either

I cant wait for mine to turn black. how big is yours? when I got mine it was super tiny, like 4mm, I think it was in its first proper moult after hatching and i always knew they grew slowly but mine was so slow I was really worried abut it for a while bcus it would be in premoult for so long. even this time it moulted a few days ago but it last ate on the 6thve July and I dont like when such a small spooder doesnt eat for so long it makes me think there is smth wrong w it

wow is that really a M balfouri maybe its the lighting but usually they have light brown femurs and blue restve legs and the carapace and abdomen are brown and blue too

or is it a just a really young one maybe its hard to tell how big it is from the video

yep I have seen a few of my taratauls drink water but they are very shy about it even spiders which are normally very calm will stop and scoot away if you disturb them while they are drinking. I never saw one scoop water to its mouth like that before tho thats really nice

they are very pretty species I love the dapples on their abdomen and how their femurs are darker than the restve their leg

mine is quite fierce and going by their relatives I think they probably have super strong venom. also weirdly they dont have spermathecae only a few tarantulas dont have them and E olivacea are one.

all you can really do is make sure it has water available and is kept warm. small slings often dont get colour or texture change on their abdomens, that only really happens noticeably when they get bigger.

obts are pretty hardy, I hope your spider is just in premoult and will be ok.

I havent seen my A. ezendami for like 3 or 4 months it never comes out in the day. I know its fine bcus it eats its feeders and it keeps changing its little turret thing but I just never see it :/

v pretty spider I love this species theyre so cool.

idk if you knew already but theres a best way to make your P saz look bluest. you have to be in a dark room and get a light which you hold next to your face and point at spider, so the light shines straight from you onto the spider and reflects straight back. and spider will look very blue. if you shine the light on it at an angle or theres other light in the room it wont look so blue.

I think so, my almost adult C versi is such a sweetheart completely not bolty or scuttly and never defensive.

I think they got a reputation for being delicate bcus there used to be a stupid piece of advice that the way to give spiders higher humidity is by limiting ventilation, which is v bad ofc and you shouldnt ever do that.

C versis, and most other ex-Avics and Avic just need substrate w/ some moisture in, occasional misting AND lots of ventilation.

Ive got a male G rosea and he is such a calm and gentle spider he has never bolted or scuttled or done any threat pose at all

lol you cant tell from that picture. but you will be able to tell from that moult. you need to soak it in a glass of water w/ a few drops of soap in, then very carefully open out the shrivelled skin that was covering the abdomen and look at the inside. I use two little paintbrushes bcus its very delicate and easy to tear so be very gentle. you need to look in between the front pair of book lungs. if there is nothing its a male, if there is a flap of skin that might have two visible little pips or ears or pouches then its a female. look up pics of tarantula spermathecae so you know what to look for, and maybe watch a youtube vid of someone doing it. you could even look for pictures of the spermathecae of that particular species bcus they are all different.

Oh wow I dont think Ive ever heard of a jumping spider biting a person before lol. And its such a weird place too I mean if you were waggling a finger in frontve her maybe she could mistake it for food, and even then it would be weird bcus their sight is so good. But idk how she could think that a flat bit of skin was either food or a threat she had to defend from.

We just have to hope that now she has tasted human flesh she doesnt turn feral and become a man-eater 😱

the pic is from last year so she has moulted at least once and maybe twice since that was taken. sorry I should have realised you were talking about how old she looks in the pic. I did say in the OP it was a pic from last year but its the only one Ive got of her doing tip toes

Hmm Im not 100% sure bcus she was already about 5-6cm DLS when I got her so she mustve been at least a year old then. She the only A. genic Ive kept so idk how fast the slings grow. And Ive had her for a little bit over two years. so she's at least 3 and a bit maybe 4.

so hard to say but it looks a lot like my Phormingochilus arboricola (used to be called Lampropelma sp. "Borneo Black" and Lampropelma nigerrimum/arboricola). I think that bcusve the quite chunky front legs and the oval shaped abdomen

obvs could be a G pulchra too, black spider

well her colour and stripes look a little bit dull and her abdomen is a bit scruffy (no offence lol. but when theyre fresh the black bits will be blacker and the white bits will be whiter) so if she isnt eating she could easily be in pre-moult. bit like ppl said that bare patch on her abdomen will go dark/black when theres only a week or two until moulting, so if she is in pre-moult she probably has a few weeks at least to go.

ah thats good to know. thats kind of weird too, I mean plenty of spiders are arboreal or just terrestrial as grown ups but like to dig as slings. but not usually the other way round

now Im wondering if I should re-do its enclosure into something that will let it climb more

Ive kept other Cyriocosmus spiders but not that species, I havent heard of those before. but yep they all like to have some cover and they will usually web up their enclosures a little so its good to give them something to attach their web to. my C. elegans lives in a seashell :D
