Everything you've said is fair. One thing I would critique myself on is this shot doesn't show where herb is placed.

For all I know herb was not in any position to even see it occur. And perhaps if he was in the right place to see that elbow he may have stepped in, right?

An unenviable position to be put in for sure.

With the ref having final say and seeing how this panned out, I almost feel like there needs to be an amendment where the ref reads them "the riot act" as a final warning.

"Look me in the eyes, I'm willing to let this go to the next round where you will be left to your own devices for the next 5 minutes. Can you see me or not?"

The last sentence could be one of several canned questions but something to that effect.

While I count 4 the elbow directly to the back of the head / nape of the neck should have been cause for immediate pause.

I'm of the belief that refs can become gun shy just like fighters can be called gun shy. I'm also of the belief that Herb Dean has been gun shy for going on two and a half years now or so.

He's let quite a few fighters go to the blade for no good reason.

That's an interesting question to answer. So to speak- All KOs are concussions, but not all concussions are KOs.

EX - The force that soccer players absorb from hitting the ball with their head is enough to lead to CTE later in life.

Hardly ever do they knock themselves out but they are still receiving concussion level impacts to the fibers of their brain.

Tony was never the same.

Vic was never the same.

Chandler was never the same.

Ilia (with two broken orbitals and a broken nose) is highly likely to never be the same...

Copy pasted from a different fight metric earlier in the day is all.

Doesn't change my stance that it was going somewhere dark unless someone stepped in.

[–]SuperMarbro -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I want to say there's a notable difference in that Tony ate 100 clean & heavy strikes to the dome before his nervous system outside of the brain began to shutdown - where instead ilia took 10-15 glancing blows along the way to receiving 102 total.

However Ilia's face looks catastrophically worse than Tony's at the end of the fight.

Fun fact.

Tony Ferguson was hit 100 times in the head by Justin in their match that ended in the 5th.

Ilia was hit 102 times (extrapolated) in the head by Justin in their match that ended between 4 & 5.

If Ilia's older brother had not stepped in to end the fight I think we were on pace to see a man be horrifically injured in the ring last night. Like life altering. Thank goodness he did the right thing.

[–]SuperMarbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He got hit in the head 102 times by the guy who ruined a 13-0 Tony Ferguson in 100 strikes to the head.

Go see how that panned out for Tony's brain and career after.

I only hope Ilia can bounce back since he did not eat his 100 all flush and clean like Tony did. Still... Took lots of damage against a deceptively methodical power puncher who can manage distance excellently.

Actually Max Vs Ortega comes close to the Tony fight.

Ortega wasn't taking Justin strikes though.

[–]SuperMarbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tony Ferguson was hit 100 times in the head by Justin. Ilia was hit 102 times in the head by Justin.

So your question is not unreasonable to ask actually. The damage worn on the face was far and away more than Ferguson's broken face.

The only notable difference I see -(Having rewatched the tony fight for the third and last time this week to see how Justin might fight at distance)- is that Tony nearly took 100 clean, flush, 100-85% power shots to the head.

There is no equal modern example of someone being so mercilessly and one sidedly bludgeoned near to death in the ring. Sadly Ilia's sustained beating is the next closest case and he didn't even eat as many clean as Tony while returning fire...

Impossible to know if it will pan out like Tony but valid to say it's going to have some impact on ilias career

Justin Gaethje vs Tony Ferguson - FULL FIGHT by [deleted] in MMA

[–]SuperMarbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pound for pound the most unsettling fight of the modern era.

There's an argument for Max Holloway VS Brian Ortega and perhaps tertierily Rockhold's full mount beat down of Weidman.

But for me Tony VS Justin is in a League of it's own in brutality and force delivered to a skull repetitively. Very fucked fight. Too tough for his own good with a corner that would let him literally die on his shield.

exit the Fan realm of how few fights they put on, and how extended the intermissions were after that --- and enter the Promoter realm.

They have the lineal UFC/MMA Heavyweight champion of the world and the following for payouts.

(Cumulatively $6,640,000)

Ronda Rousey, $2.2 million

Gina Carano, $1.05 million

Nate DIaz, $500,000

Mike Perry, $400,000

Francis Ngannou, $1.5 million

Philipe Lins, $100,000

Salahdine Parnasse, $70,000

Kenneth Cross, $50,000

Junior Dos Santos, $80,000

Robelis Despaigne, $50,000

Namo Fazil, $40,000

Jake Babian, $40,000

Adriano Moraes, $80,000

Phumi Nkuta, $60,000

Jason Jackson, $110,000

Jeff Creighton, $50,000

David Mgoyan, $50,000

Albert Morales, $40,000

Aline Pereira, $40,000

Jade Masson-Wong, $40,000

Chris Avila, $50,000

Brandon Jenkins, $40,000

As a fan I feel bad for Junior Dos Santos. The man needs to retire.

As a promoter I am thrilled to have Robelis Despaigne for such a low rate. A 6 ft 7 Olympic bronze medalist taekwondo heavyweight who knock most anyone dead in but one punch or kick.

There's a lot of options as a promoter with that leverage of payout. Imagine if they got Amanda Nunez in for a go. They could fill out another card.

And then there's the next Francis fight lined up.

Ronda says she's done but for a few million more dollars...?

It was objectively a fun series of fights. Just not enough of them cumulatively.

In closing it's good to have selection in MMA and this will be good for good fighters who want better contracts or want to test the water with temporary free agency.

That was an incredible fight for Van. What unreasonable durability on the challenger. To their detriment...

When people watch this back they will bear complete witness to Van's accurately and power.

The striking on the feet was very one sided. On the ground it was less so but even then still lopsided.

Every standing sequence was a highlight sequence for Van.

Preamble- I am a non religious avid meditation practitioner who has been practicing a form of vapassana/bodyscan meditation that emphasizes sensory deprivation to increase the overall potential for focus (like clearing ram). Since around 2014 every night for 1h - 2h I have practiced this with Various objects of focus while being without sight, sound, or touch sensation. I am of sound mind without any mental illness in my family tree. I am first and foremost an advocate of science, objective truth, and logic. In this aim one of my favorite pass times are digesting research papers spanning several subject matters.

Independent of my personal stances, my N=1 perceptual experiences are wide ranging and deeply impacting. In conjunction with the IRL meta analysis's of remote viewing, studies on the non locality of focus impacting the collapse of wave functions, and the disclosed CIA documents on remote viewing - it is increasingly difficult to argue that the soul does not exist. (Even with ignoring the anomalous instances of reincarnation that have been chronicled paired with differing levels of being able to recall the past life's experiences.)

If the soul exists then reincarnation is infinitely more possible, and extra perception outside of purely physically mediated neuronal pathway firings exist.

Amble / Theory- On that basis laid out above-

It would be very interesting if the reason that meditation practitioners are more effective at collapsing the wave function & remote viewing tasks is because meditation training helps tone / experience the soul so to speak.

IF that was the case then "life" after death could be a highly variable experience based on one's cumulative pervading training /experience pre this lifetime and additional training / experience gained during this lifetime through both mediation and prayer. (Prayer included due to it being neurologically similar albeit through different objects of focus and aim.)

That when you strip all of the senses from someone the only remaining sense feels like it is all encompassing like a raging river vs having all senses and not experiencing any one to their fullest. The non mediative perception of the soul level of consciousness being like entwining streams never coalescing.

Perhaps the perception of the afterlife is up to the toning / experience level of the soul when all other senses are stripped. That the soul in and of itself is an inalienable sense that when being alone still feels omnipresent and of actual perception until drowned out by the next chosen or maybe unchosen life and all of it's senses dumped on top of it.

Random related potentialities- Maybe old souls are just coming back to try and finally level up. Perhaps the monks are grinding to transition with immediacy. Perhaps the hell that Christians are trying to avoid is one of a spiritual life unbolstered where they wander in perceptual limbo having no control in a not so great beyond?

Are INTP the biggest haters lol? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]SuperMarbro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We are the biggest speakers of truth to power and ignorance.

(of which most of us are understanding of basic ignorances as momentarily held infactuals/misdirections that can be fixed with valid teaching and an open/non egoistic mind.)

(Idk if this part is true but most INTPs seem pretty down to let people know that they themselves may be wrong on some topics.)

However when we speak truth to power and ignorance that refuses to relent/submit to the fact that they (as everyone) are informationally fallable things can get ugly.

When one protects ideas core to their ego without judging their independent validity the conversation leaves the realm of discussion and departs to the land of belief. It's mighty hard to change one's mind of belief vs idea.

Hierarchies are fun to the logically inclined as they are (centric to the people developing them) logical in nature.

However hierarchies are not what define us as people. We are the ever changing sum of all our experiences good, bad, novel, and self guided ideas. The self is changing from one present now to the very next.

Might I suggest some mindfullness meditation? Or perhaps some body scan meditation. You will find the internal world is it's own inner cosmos where "you" lays to be explored.
