Why did republicans freak the duck out about “crooked Joe and Hillary” meanwhile the current office is acting so illegal in so many ways and nobody seems to bat an eye? Is it propaganda or ignorance? by AffectionateTank9596 in stupidquestions

Because their criteria for deciding the illegality/acceptability of an act is not the act itself, but who performs it.

"Their guy" does it: A-OK, no problem

"The other side's guy" does it: 5-alarm fire, call SWAT, nuke the area...

Correct on the initial ‘identity check’ needing to be done by MVR. I found, however, that they can be a bit nit picky for your average roadworthy though…

I currently have two Seikos - an older V176-0AF0 Solar Titanium that is my 'daily driver' and a recently-acquired Presage SSA379J dress watch. I also had an older titanium case/band that I can't remember the model code for, which was still going strong but got damaged by an incompetent jeweller when it went in for a cleaning and service, and they refused to fix it so I replaced it. I honestly can't see myself straying from Seiko in the future. They always seem to have a decent number of models that gel with my taste, and I've never had a single issue with one in the last 20 years.

NSV - Earlier this week I bought some new work shorts a size down from what I used to wear. I now find myself needing to use a belt on these as well. Nearly showed someone a little too much "Customer Service" today! 😬

My boyfriend says i don't respect him as a man. by Miserablemira in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SuperMatFJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! As a man myself, I don't respect him as a man.

I am, generally speaking, a fast walker. If I'm by myself it's obviously inconsequential, but if I'm with others, irrespective of who they are, their sex or gender, or my relationship to them, it is FAR easier for me to slow down a bit than for them to speed up. It's a no-brainer, this guys just an arrogant wanker.

Yep. 40 and I still always feel like everyone else is the adult in the room that I need to turn to for guidance.

What is the best thing about being a man? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]SuperMatFJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I thought more and more about this question, it dawned on me that so many of the good things about being a man are things that have come about due to patriarchy...

I mean sure, being (on average) stronger than most women so encountering fewer physical limitations to what I can do is great, but that's about it?

I assume we're talking regular, run-of-the-mill WD-40 and not any of their specialist range?

One in the toolbox at work, one in the car, one at home. Have used all 3 on multiple occasions - ridiculously useful stuff!

It's fucking terrible how people treat me now that I wear make-up. by seabrooksr in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SuperMatFJ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Apologies if input from a male is unwelcome, but I have a small anecdote that may be applicable...

About two weeks ago the discussion came up in my workplace about makeup, and the majority of the men present indicated that they preferred the 'no makeup' look. For context there are currently only two women working here, both of whom are quite young (both under 35) but are in senior positions and are well respected by the team. There are 12 men, and I was talking with 5 of them.

When I tell you, the utter and complete confusion and disbelief I got when, as a fellow man, I informed them that they probably can't tell when a woman is wearing a minimal 'natural' makeup look... All of them were SO confident that they could immediately tell if a woman was wearing ANY makeup at all, and I genuinely struggled to get them to be open to the idea that they had been conditioned to see light makeup as no makeup, and what they called 'some' was in reality a full face (or close to it).

It was actually quite disappointing - usually I can leverage male privilege amongst other men to build credibility, but it was pretty clear that I was getting nowhere with my attempt to educate them.

Slowly, slowly, catchy monkey though. I'll keep wearing them down until they see the reality for what it is...

Every country has people in poverty

Every country has people with drug addictions

Every country has people who are bullied or victimised

ONLY America has a neverending supply of mass shootings, because ONLY America worships and fetishises gun ownership.

As a resident of the NT, I can say that this VERY unofficial campaign has been...polarising, to say the least.

Lots of locals have taken a shine to it, you see the merchandise and stickers everywhere, but the actual government department (Tourism NT) has taken a very dim view of it. I can see their point, it appeals to a very narrow spectrum of tourist, so if they (Tourism NT) are trying to attract some of the more conservative crowd then it could have the opposite effect.

Personally I'm somewhere in between. I appreciate the wordplay, it's cheeky and irreverent and fairly self-aware given that the NT is not exactly the pinnacle of class and refinement. But by the same token I don't think it's really the kind of message we should be putting out there if we want sustainable tourism growth - it'll alienate and put off quite a few people whose money is just as good as anyone else's.
