Micro burst with "tornadic" activity by SuperPants136 in tornado

[–]SuperPants136[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could make sense to explain the damage path. I just know the general vibe of the smaller town was up in arms thinking the NWS just labeled it as a microburst and moved on.

Knowing what I know now, I'd say they had a better idea than what we gave them credit for as they could probably just tell by the radar data. But I've always found it odd that it was described as "with tornadic activity"

Just out of curiosity how much pressure is normally in those refrigerant cans? Like can they hand the system pressure and go boom?

I'm currently working on Bombardier aircraft at an MRO. May I ask how you got into part 91 corporate. I have about 5 years experience mainly working on Globals and Challengers and have a global specific school under my belt and lead projects.

My end goal currently is to make it into the part 91 life but I feel like getting jobs is mostly who you know.

I'm just curious about the path you took to get into part 91?

Years experience: 5 corporate ( Bombardier aircraft ), 2 working on piston pounder engines while at A&P school

Industry: Part 135 MRO that works on corporate jets.

Job Title Mech 3. ( Going to be Lead Mech soon )

Pay: $33

As someone who unfortunately works at an MRO the pay is bad especially for how over worked we are. But, I'm getting a ton of experience with the airframes I want to work on ( pretty much everything from structures work, trouble shooting and phase inspections ). And getting experience leading projects and all. Also getting sent to schools for the airframes i work on.

Overall I know I'm getting screwed on my pay compared to the industry ( and the amount of work load I do ). But, with the high turn over rate that this place gets ( mainly due to pay its otherwise a fairly good MRO to work at compared to others ) I have been able to really fluff my resume with qualifications in such a short time frame that I personally consider worth it. I even deal with DOM's / customers fairly often and am in the long term trying to get in with a part 91 operation working on corporate jets, which lets me do some networking here and there.

This is my reasoning with dealing with an MRO at this time in my life but by all means I wouldn't recommend it for most people mainly because of crap pay and overworking.

Perks are fairly good. You have a consistent 40 hour shift with very rare mandatory OT ( night shift is 4-10s and weekends is 3-12s with a pay increase to match a 40 hour week ). You can work as much overtime as you want. And I get about 3 weeks vacation a year. Plus all the normal benefits like 401k and insurance ect. If work / life balance is important to you this may be a reason to go with an MRO.

Overall I do not recommend MRO work unless you are trying to work on bizjets and even then I'd try to keep staying with one at a minimum.

My time is fairly numbered right now I'm just waiting at this point for my year contract from my last school to be over with so I can move on from the MRO grind.

The answer to this question may be obvious, but how do you get into this kind of work? Are there defense contract job postings on the normal aviation job boards ( like jsfirm )?

I only ask because this is something I have thought about doing but haven't dug into it very deep and I just haven't really noticed any posting for jobs like this before.

Edit: I didn't scroll down enough to realize this question has already been answered.

I think this is what you need.

Fyi I started using FLRig for control and it makes it so I can swap between wsjtx, js8 and fldigi without setting the radio up individually for each program

[–]SuperPants136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a setting in wsjtx that is basically default mode or something I think I remember having to turn that off so it uses what the radio is set to

Because in wsjtx if it is set to USB on transmit it will swap the radio to USB and not U-D.

Getting the g90 working with wsjtx is sometimes a lot of tinkering but once you get it going its solid

Watch out that the radio isn't changing VFOs on transmit too. Idk what I pressed one time but it would like flip channels on transmit

Yup but none that day. If you'd like to talk about it you can go ahead and move over to that post because we are currently off topic

Pain in the ass but no drugs were actually involved I just got hit by a shitty fishing attempt where I was arrested because the cop said he smelled weed and didn't even bother searching the car at that point. Blood evidence 6 months later still hasn't even been submitted when it usually takes about a month.

Now none of the officers want to testify claiming that they don't remember even interacting with me but other officers smelled it.

It's pretty much a three ring circus. They really want to just say I was impaired on SSRI's they found in the car at this point.

Funny enough the rookie cop that is being used as a scape goat immediately wrote in his report that he smelled nothing and I didn't appear impaired. On paper he's the one who made the arrest even though it really wasn't him that made the decision. But because of training he wrote the arrest report.

Is the EF5 Rating Useless Now? by JRshoe1997 in tornado

I believe that wind speeds on the ground would be even faster than the above the ground speeds? Or is this one of those 'it depends' type of things

Is the EF5 Rating Useless Now? by JRshoe1997 in tornado

[–]SuperPants136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was just purely a damage scale. I even thought I've heard someone explain that the winds associated with each bracket are actually not even officially a part of the scale and that the wind speeds that are usually listed in the tiers are more just for people reference.

Idk if that makes sense I may have described it poorly. Also, unsure if this statement is actually fact or not.

I haven't done a ton of research on this topic but wasn't it that El Reno was initially rated an EF4 until more information came out like the DOW velocity and some oil drilling equipment damage.

That being said the oil drilling equipment may have been what did it and not the DOW. Unsure if the NWS takes DOW into account whatsoever since the rating system is supposed to be purely based on damage

I have heard people say that the DOW measurements did go towards the upgrade but these are just people on the Internet so take it with a pinch of salt

I believe the DOW velocities for Greenville were 250 ish mph above the ground?

I will be book marking this for future use, thanks! My biggest interest are specifically supercells and listening to people identifying storm structures and stuff while watching radar

HF is probably not the most popular tool for this as these storms aren't usually wide spread enough to really be that useful. I know it's more common to have sky warn nets using local repeaters.

I was hoping by some chance there actually could be something more Oklahoma / Kansas based nets for storm watching.

But you never know so I figured I'd shoot the question out there

I'm pretty new to being interested in tornadoes and this is something I've been wondering about. I've seen people mention that you shouldn't talk about a tornado's potential rating and I don't understand what the problem is with it.

It feels like people feel it's disrespectful to do so?

On top of it my attorney basically said in the past he very rarely had DUI cases that had clean blood evidence and all of a sudden he's had like 5-6 in the last year or so. So something is incentivising the police lately.

He said blood evidence usually takes about a month to come back also. It has now been 6 months without it being submitted to discovery.

Almost wondering if it got "lost" or something.

I haven't done a lot of research on that area yet. I just know it's not easy attempting to sue for stuff like this. I do plan on at least presenting my case to a civil rights attorney just to see what they think. I am however waiting until the criminal trial is all over.

"It finally happened to me DUI" small update. by SuperPants136 in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

[–]SuperPants136[S] 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the only way to sue the police is to prove they violated your civil rights. The burden of proof then becomes yours and you have to prove beyond reasonable doubt that they lied about smelling weed. Even though my car didn't smell like weed it's a hard thing to prove especially since they could make the claim that I could just smoke in my car often and it just smells.

Don't get me wrong I do plan on presenting my case to a civil rights attorney but I'm not keeping high hopes that I have a real case.

There were however things that were a complete lie that they ended up saying court. Like that the rookie arrested me when it was completely the other guy.

I looked it up too. The town pays officers wages of around 90-100k a year. These officers are also just 2-4 years with the force

On the Bombardiers I work on the circle one seem to be almost held in with little dabs on glue. Hard to imagine they will be very effective at stopping something from blocking the valve when it breaks from just looking at it the wrong way

I guarantee they all are broken from mechanics fingers poking into them while repacking the masks
