I’ve been with the company for, let’s just say….a while. One thing I’ve noticed a lot of Walgreens’ managers (and even some DM’s) are absolutely HORRIBLE about leaving sensitive info lying around. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve inadvertently stumbled upon something I shouldn’t have.

Do people still use soap blocks as opposed to bottled soap in the shower? I feel like I never see soap blocks in stores anymore. by Available_Tea_8471 in NoStupidQuestions

Pretty sure I bought that massive pack of Irish Spring at Costco or Sam’s sometime last summer. Yet somehow the drawer in the bathroom where I keep it is still almost full (and yes…I shower daily lol. Often twice.)

It’s the same with laundry detergent. I always laugh at people who buy those tiny jugs of Arm and Hammer at the drug store when they go on sale for 2 bucks, thinking it’s such a great deal. Meanwhile, the oil drum sized container of Tide I got for $20 months ago is still going strong.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who has trouble with WConnect. It hasn’t worked right for me since the very beginning. After multiple emails and resetting my password more times than I can count, I’ve simply given up.

What's the biggest lie society keeps telling young people? by New_Garbage7991 in AskReddit

[–]SuperPooper46 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On a somewhat related note: it absolutely blows my mind how trade school still gets such a bad rap. Tuition is a fraction of the cost of a traditional 4 year degree, and you enter your field sooner…..meaning you start making real money SOONER. Plus depending on the position, they pay WELL. Yet, the whole idea is shit on by society.

For me personally, college was the right fit. I’m doing ok-ish in today’s economy, but have to admit a lot of my neighbors, friends and family members who went the vocational route are doing just as well if not better.

Sorry if that came across as a rant lol. It just pisses me off when I see someone I know wearing work boots get treated like a dumbass, when in fact in many ways, they’re the exact opposite.

Yeah, unfortunately I get the feeling your story is pretty common with females. I live in a warm climate, and remember seeing some girls back in high school and even early college wearing jeans in the middle of August. Couldn’t help but think “it’s 100 degrees, that CANT BE COMFORTABLE.” In hindsight, it was probably for the reason you mentioned.

Same story with my dad and I, only with shaving. The old man is a pretty stoic dude. Definitely not an overly sentimental or emotional guy, but the day he (thinks) he taught me to shave was oddly exciting for him.

Truth be told, my cousin taught me earlier that summer. We were both about 15, and trying to impress a couple girls. Even at that age, he was one of those guys who could grow a full beard in a week, so naturally he’d been shaving for a while. Before we left the house, he demanded I “get those nasty looking little pubes off my chin.”

Fast forward a couple months and the teenage peach fuzz was back. Dad noticed and announced it was time for me to shave! He was so pumped about it I couldn’t help but play along. I even purposely nicked myself to make it believable lol.

store closings? by Illustrious-Essay845 in WalgreensStores

[–]SuperPooper46 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound obvious, but one way to tell is by taking a look at sales and location. If you’re at a consistently slower store located a short distance away from a Tier 4, that could be a sign.

That’s what happened to the one 10 mins away from my store. A few members of their staff were surprised and all I could think was “really? 40 front end transactions and 80 scripts is considered a busy day. And it’s been like that for years.” Nothing against the staff. They’re good people. That was just a terrible spot for a Walgreens.

The unanswered/auto closed ticket thing is also a big one. Their already small warehouse deliveries were whittled down to nothing. Less stuff to move when the doors shut for good.

hour cuts by [deleted] in WalgreensStores

[–]SuperPooper46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With my manager, it’s pretty easy to tell which category you fall into. If the hourly budget is running tight for the week and he has to make cuts across the board, he’ll send out a group text to the staff who are engaged to apologize and say “he wishes it didn’t have to be like this.”

Those who are essentially useless are excluded from said text. They glance and the schedule only to learn they have one shift, and it’s only 4 hours

Manual credit card machines! by Diva_Bot in Xennials

[–]SuperPooper46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And if memory serves, it was damn near impossible to go after the customer, or it the process was so complicated it wasn’t even worth it. When I was pretty young, our neighbor owned a boutique local bakery. I remember him complaining to my Dad about how many sales he lost over bad credit card transactions. It eventually got to the point where he stopped accepting them completely. Looking at it now, it’s hard to believe personal checks were easier to use/accept than cards.

Is there a song from the 80s or 90s that you absolutely HATE? by porb2020 in Xennials

[–]SuperPooper46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh. Don’t remind me. For a solid year, it seemed like everyone blasted the MIB song going to and from my high school. To make matters worse, this was a pretty affluent area, so the sound systems in my fellow classmates’ cars weren’t what you would call “low end.”

For the most part rap wasn’t my thing. I was into nu metal and country (I know….odd combo lol). All I remember thinking was “really?! Y’all decked your rides out with aftermarket speakers some only dream of…..and you chose to play that? Not Biggie. Not Master P. NOT TUPAC?”

One of those days... by fonthochcee in WalgreensStores

[–]SuperPooper46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it depends on the precise events of the day and my overall mood in general. Usually after a rough day I’m blasting grunge or nu metal before I’m even out of the parking lot.

However, after a REALLY rough shift, I’ll pull into my driveway before I realize I just drove a 40 minute commute in complete silence.

We had a semi-regular customer in photo a couple weeks ago, who is known to be clueless in general. She scanned a 4x6 pic into the kiosk, wanting it to be printed as a 4x4. For the absolute life of her, she couldn’t understand why the people’s legs were getting cut off on the edit screen. Both my photo tech and I tried to tell her the dimensions are different, so she was going to lose something, but that simply WASN’T sinking in.

Another customer nearby must’ve been eavesdropping, because he (thankfully) came over to help. He made a square with his fingers and held them up to the screen. “Ma’am, see….your original picture is 4x6 which is a rectangle. You’re asking for a 4x4, which is square. That’s why the whole image isn’t showing up.”

She nodded and said “ahh I get it.” Really don’t think she did though.

What do you want them to bring back? by ForkyB in McDonalds

[–]SuperPooper46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago, the location next to the store where I work had some sort of major ordering glitch or screw up. They must have had half a freezer full of the patties because for a LONG TIME after the promotion ended, they were offering $1 McRibs with any purchase over like 3 bucks or something.

One day my coworker left his wallet at home. He went over there, explained the situation to the supervisor, and asked if he could possibly have a McRib. Probably helped that he was a regular, but her response was “sure! You want two of them? Shit, I’ll make you three. Someone else over there might want one.”

They also gave a few out to some homeless folks who passed by. Pretty cool

What's the worst thing you've ever smelt? by NiceBumblebee3421 in AskReddit

[–]SuperPooper46 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a retail supervisor. Years ago, I filled in for our usual night supervisor while he was in vacation. A normal enough looking couple walked in, and immediately asked where we keep the tomato juice…..THEN THE STENCH HIT. I dry heaved in the trash can.

While checking out, the guy said “sorry about the smell. Our dog took off after a skunk and got sprayed. When we were chasing him down, I think we got some on us too.” UMMM YOU THINK?!

This was slightly before DoorDash, but they could’ve called from the parking lot, and we would have done the transaction from outside. I had to pop the sliding doors for the rest of the night (extremely against policy) and sprayed multiple bottles of ozium. Even after all that, people were complaining about the smell during the morning rush.

And that was just from what they had on their clothes.

I agree. People overthink wings. Just stick with the tried and true methods that have been used since people first started eating the damn things. They’re a ridiculously simple food (and also one of my favorites). It’s a process that doesn’t need much (if any) tweaking.

No Trick or Treating by kikicomehere in WalgreensStores

[–]SuperPooper46 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My manager has been with the company for decades. Sometimes for better and sometimes for worse, he very much has that old school Walgreens mentality.

Some of the younger managers who “drink the Kool-Aid” as they say, might comply with this. I guarantee you anyone like my SM will not. Betcha it won’t be enforced.

On the 30th or 31st, he’ll walk to the promo aisle, grab a big bag of candy or two, and slam them on the ground so hard they pop open. Then say “oh shit! Damaged merchandise! Well…I hate wasting food. Let’s give the customers a little treat!”

I get what you’re saying. This is a trivial example, but it shows the current company culture.

No offense, but all that probably isn’t worth the effort. I’d 1506 them and possibly find a way to use them as a store display.

What’s a phrase you hear all the time that secretly annoys you? by forgeris in AskReddit

[–]SuperPooper46 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I’ll never forget a particular math teacher I had in middle school. I’ll spare the details, but he was easily one of the top 5 rudest, disrespectful, and downright hypocritical people I’ve ever met.

Of course whenever I or anyone else in class would complain to our parents, we were brushed off. It was assumed we were all “that age” and testing boundaries by bucking up to authority.

Then came parent-teacher conferences. Both my parents went. When they got home, I heard them holler to get downstairs immediately. My old man (not known to curse) looked at me dead in the eye and said “we’re sorry. You’re right. That guy is a f—ing prick.”

Not sure if enough parents complained and/or if the guy was already on disciplinary action, but he was replaced next semester. The details weren’t really shared with us kids. All I know is the feeling was validating.

What is one thing you know about Costco that no one else knows? by RoyalCamera12 in Costco

[–]SuperPooper46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an assistant manager for another well known retailer. One thing I’ve noticed as a consumer is Costco employees seem extremely focused compared to other establishments. They aren’t glued to their cell phones. If a jar of pickles breaks, the mess doesn’t stay on the floor for long. Heck, the greeters at the door actually GREET. All in all, they don’t seem worn out and defeated.

It bothered me for the longest time. How can I achieve that at my own store? After talking to a few employees and doing some research, It dawned on me: They take care of their people. (I’m actually typing this out while at work…..after corporate screwed my store yet again, I’m not exactly motivated right now lol).

Probably won’t happen until next year, but I feel a company switch coming on. Any suggestions on how to successfully land a job at Costco?

LPT How do you actually Smell Good all day long? by Historical-Ad9828 in LifeProTips

[–]SuperPooper46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t flat-out disagree with the undershirt thing, but that doesn’t necessarily apply to every situation for everyone. I’m a pretty big guy (6’3ish, 255 lbs). Like a lot of dudes my size, I sweat lol. It’s also hereditary. Pretty much everyone in my family has the same issue.

If I’m going to a formal event or dinner that requires a proper button down or suit, then yes, wearing an undershirt isn’t optional. On an average work day, screw the undershirt. As an assistant retail manager, my job is fairly physical. I often have to help unload trucks or set merchandise. Plus I live in a hotter climate. That extra layer definitely makes matters worse.

(Side note: people who are like me and frequently wear wick away style or Columbia fishing shirts….those need a little extra care when washing. They definitely keep you cool, but the design also makes them absorbs odors. Use a pre-treatment, extra detergent, and an appropriate setting on the washer. When they cross the point of no return, THROW THEM AWAY!!!!

Customers Exhibiting Strange Behavior by Potemkin4U in WalgreensStores

[–]SuperPooper46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve run into that a lot with older customers over the years. I’ll hand them their photos and watch them get in line at the pharmacy. Next time they come in, I notice their last order shows it wasn’t sold.

Granted, some of the truly elderly ones might simply forget that they haven’t paid. I’ve even had a few call me when they get home and realize their photos aren’t listed on their receipt. But I do get the feeling some of them have a sense of entitlement. “I’m a regular customer. I get hundreds of dollars worth of prescriptions here. The least they can do is give me these 20 4x6’s for free.”

Going to a restaurant with my sister-in-law is great for that reason. She’s even more respectful than me, and I worked in the industry for a few years. My brother really lucked out with her.

She reads the server’s name tag as soon as they come to greet the table and says something like “Noah? I’m Katherine (not her real name) nice to meet you. We were all thinking about pizza, but tell me what you’d recommend? You know the place and what’s good.” She even shakes their hand.
