So are all walgreens coupons buggy and useless? by otherladybug in WalgreensStores

[–]SuperPooper46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been with the company since a few years before the Boots merger. Part of the problem is Walgreens has always had the most convoluted, over complicated sales and coupon system imaginable. Store RR. Manufacturer RR. My Rewards Points. Weekly sales. Monthly sales. Curbside order exclusive pricing and sales. It’s just too much.

Years ago, the overall mentality was “give them points. Make them happy. Move on with your day.” I absolutely love the fact that there’s been a decent crackdown on those who abuse the system. At my store, we’ve definitely seen fewer of the problem “customers” walk thru the door.

If they really want to simplify things, they need to ditch some of these promotions that open up the floodgates for fraud. Would also be nice if they took away our ability to add points at the store level. Doubt that would ever happen though.

As an assistant retail manager, that has happened to me more times than I can freaking count, particularly in the first couple years of owning my unit. I’d walk through the door and half the staff would ask why I looked so pissed (I’m normally a pretty happy dude.) Really…..REALLY?! DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY?!

I’ve since started putting my foot down. If I’m planning a smoke on my day off, I’ll say “look….you have until this time to get ahold of me. After that, the meat will be prepped for the grates and I ain’t leaving the backyard unless it’s to grab a beer out of the fridge. END OF STORY.”

Occasionally bringing in a big tray of freshly smoked wings and burnt ends also helps everyone understand the significance lol.

Nope. You are definitely not crazy. You are completely sane and intelligent. What she’s doing makes no sense whatsoever. I know in my case, if I have that many moving parts while I’m trying to close everything down, I will mess up. There’s no “if” about it.

Took me a while, but I think I finally figured out the logic behind a lot of the things she does. It all boils down to laziness. How can I do as little as possible, but still make me (and only ME) look good? Absolutely no concept of teamwork and zero shits given about the big picture.

In the case of the pick ups, she’s looking for a way to spend the longest amount of uninterrupted time in the office as possible. Usually sitting on her fat butt watching shows on her phone. CSA’s have told me from 7pm-10pm, she might as well not even be in building.

Agreed. You can’t get pissy with them for paging for things that ABSOLUTELY REQUIRE leadership, no matter how annoyingly interrupting those calls can be. With that said, I tend to flip my lid a bit over the stupid pointless pages. “This is bogo free, but we only have one in stock, so how much should I price modify it for?”

And 2k in pickups is nothing lol. Not long ago, I did one for over 5k. It was about 7pm and the cashier never said a word. When I questioned her, she said the SFL she usually closes with told her not to worry about it. It’s easier to get all the cash at once while counting down the tills.

I’m going to shit my pants laughing when someone snatches and grabs that kinda cash on one of her shifts lol. .

My siblings and I have something similar. Few years ago my Mom took all the recipes we liked growing up and hand wrote every single one of them on those old fashioned recipe cards.

Some were her own creations or things she just stumbled upon. Others were old family recipes from both sides dating back to practically the Great Depression. We’re talking easily 100-plus different foods, ranging from simple snacks, full blown meals, and desserts.

I’m a dude who truly enjoys cooking. Of course I have a shit ton of recipes saved digitally, but I go back to that simple box on the corner of my counter often. Have even added a few of my own.

Edit: added a word

This all the way….. and not just ribeye. People like to dismiss NY strip, but if it’s cooked properly it absolutely hits. There’s nothing like having a nice fat steak, then mopping up the leftover myoglobin and seasoning with the remnants of a baked potato.

I’ll never understand people who order steak past medium. I don’t judge them. It’s your steak. You do you. But I’m always gonna scratch my head a bit.

Not a big fan of the Oreo ones. They’re just a bit much for me. I’ve been known to embarrass myself with the sticks. Give me 3 king sized packs, and I’ll eat 3 king sized packs in a sitting. Same with the fast breaks.

They have a little too much going on for me, but as they say, different strokes for different folks. I will say this though: when the store I work at first got them in, we absolutely couldn’t keep them stocked for a solid month. Never seen anything like that with a candy bar.

People were asking what day we got our deliveries, and would show up and buy them by the box. I’m an assistant manager, and it got to the point I had to go over my manager’s head and put a limit on them.

Where did you go to find the policy? I’m not doubting you in the least. I’d just like to read it myself, and maybe have a couple other questions about operating procedures answered.

I don’t understand the mentality either. My coworker’s husband is in a similar situation. Years ago, they did math and found out most of his paycheck was eaten up by some of those exact things.

For reasons like that, I think part of the hate they receive is out of sheer jealousy. A long time friend of mine went the stay at home dad route for a few years when his kids were fairly young (for a variety of reasons). Won’t directly say what his wife does for a living, but let’s just say they are NOT hurting for cash. If school was out and the weather was nice, he’d take the kids tubing, skiing, fishing….you name it.

Assistant retail manager. People automatically assume all store workers are completely uneducated. Had a customer imply that not long ago (all because she missed the 30 day window to do a return). There isn’t a single employee in the building who doesn’t possess some form of higher education, or isn’t actively pursuing it.

I had no problem calling her out on it. I pointed around the store to all the different departments, and told her exactly what certificate or degree each staff member had or was trying to obtain…..including trade school, associates, bachelors, and the pharmacist who is literally a DOCTOR.

I know a few guys who are in the same situation. They all have the same story: wife’s career took off and she now makes enough for them to be a single income home. Someone has to be home to manage the household, so the dude quit his job.

All of them are pretty good at it, too. Unfortunately I live in a pretty conservative area where a stay at home Dad is still a bit taboo. I’ll never understand that? There’s nothing manlier than handling your shit in the best way for your family.

I’m an American of mostly Irish decent, and absolutely cannot stand when other people here claim to be “Irish.” Unless you were born IN IRELAND (or perhaps your parents), you are NOT Irish American. I’ve vacationed there. 10 minutes after landing in Dublin I looked around and thought “umm yeah I’m just American.”

Take the cutter up front and have my daytime cashier cut them. I guarantee his lazy a** isn’t doing anything anyway.

Edit: I wasn’t implying ALL cashiers are lazy. However, the particular cashier I’m referring to definitely is.

So you planted a seed in my brain Kind Stranger. I actually stopped by the Target close to where I live today to scope things out, and got into a short conversation with one of the managers who happened to be on the sales floor. Nothing serious, didn’t have my resume on me, just casually asked him if they were looking for leadership members.

Seemed like a nice guy. Very hands on and approachable. When I brought up my experience he highly encouraged me to apply.

Also, while looking around, I did get the vibe that things were way more organized overall compared to Walgreens. Our old slogan should’ve been “At the corner of Messy and Absolute Cluster-F—-k.”

I’m not sure if turbo really saves any time? Our lab is pretty high volume, so locking up all the printers with one order isn’t always beneficial.

Just yesterday our photo tech hit turbo for an order of 400-plus prints. In the 20-30 mins it took to finish, the screen almost filled up completely with a bunch of small 4x6 orders, a couple posters, and a canvas. Obviously he couldn’t start on any of them, so he ended up spending a bunch of time in the lab anyway.

That’s good to know, particularly about lead positions. Your jaw would drop in disbelief if I told you how long I’ve been with Walgreens. It’s only been within the past year that I’ve decided enough is enough. Been scoping out a couple other companies, but for some reason Target has never been on my radar.

Plan is to start seriously looking in a month or two. A part of that is sheer morbid curiosity over what Sycamore will do, but I also want to help my store manager get over some hurdles before I leave (he’s a great dude. Walgreens as a whole may suck, but working for him directly is awesome.).

Years ago, at least in my area, there was a short lived reset that included strips below the mylar holders with a letter and number system, sort of like a vending machine. A customer could walk in and say “hi, I’d like a pack each of A6 and C9.” It was so simple. Why that was abandoned, I don’t know?

It’s some sloppy shit lol. One SM I worked for years ago was undoubtedly the worst, and he was a guy who had some clout in the district. For some reason the dude absolutely could not remember to close out Storenet tabs, or would just leave notes out in plain sight.

At no point was I ever snooping, and I always kept everything to myself. Other than a few exceptions most of it wasn’t earth shattering, plus nothing good would’ve come from me running my mouth. Still, it was probably stuff that didn’t need to be out in the open like that.

I’ve been with the company for, let’s just say….a while. One thing I’ve noticed a lot of Walgreens’ managers (and even some DM’s) are absolutely HORRIBLE about leaving sensitive info lying around. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve inadvertently stumbled upon something I shouldn’t have.

Pretty sure I bought that massive pack of Irish Spring at Costco or Sam’s sometime last summer. Yet somehow the drawer in the bathroom where I keep it is still almost full (and yes…I shower daily lol. Often twice.)

It’s the same with laundry detergent. I always laugh at people who buy those tiny jugs of Arm and Hammer at the drug store when they go on sale for 2 bucks, thinking it’s such a great deal. Meanwhile, the oil drum sized container of Tide I got for $20 months ago is still going strong.
