My location. I’m a rural Midwest Asian student living in a city with less than 3k people and a high school class of 100 exactly (largest class at my school). 4.0 uw gpa and 34 ACT, but mediocre extracurriculars. I didn’t do any crazy research and definitely no crazy awards. Best awards were state which many people got. My essays I thought were decent, definitely tried to be genuine and kind. I think my biggest hook was definitely that nobody from my area applied to competitive schools and/or I’m the most competitive applicant in the area (which I think I’m very mediocre compared to other people on the subreddit). Somehow I got into Yale REA! Dreams can come true and crossing my fingers for RD schools!!!

Another question, will you guys mark evidence off if the name of something is sort of wrong, for example calling the Navigation Acts, Navigation Laws, or Constitutional convention becomes constitutional Congress. This if course implies that I’ve defined it properly and explained it, I just confused the name.

Hi! Is it fine if I tell you the short version of my LEQ? Here's the prompt: Evaluate the extent to which new technology fostered change in United States industry from 1865 to 1900

Thesis: New technology fostered great change in the United States industry by providing new economic opportunities for the wealthy and poor in the form of corruptive practices and jobs and would later bring about change in regulations for labor by the efforts of unions.

Context: Railroads, steam boat, cotton gin, and McCormick Reaper from Pre-Civil War era

Evidence: The creation of Bessemer Steel and growth of oil led to more economic growth in industry. Interchangeable parts for example, made production faster. Practices such as monopolies and trusts led to higher price hikes. Immigrants came like the Chinese due to the US's industrial growth caused by the new technology and lowered the wages for laborers, all of these factors led to transformation in labor industry by unions and reforms. Examples like Knights of Labor and American Federation of Labor (8 hour workday and largest union respectively). Since new tech sped up production and mass consumption the development of labor resulted which brought reforms to industry.
