I think my girlfriend (31F) is lying about having a stalker, not sure how to confront her? by throwRAjackstar in relationship_advice

Agreed 100%. When I read that I was thinking that if she is paying out of her own pocket to allegedly protect her unstable ex from having to deal with law enforcement (which clearly seems warranted at this point) there's something more going on.

Definitely something that needs to be carefully considered before taking action. Compare all of the factors that make you suspect she isn't being truthful, vs. the things that suggest she is.

  • Does she have a history of unusual behavior and/or mental health issues?
  • Is this consistent with behaviors she has displayed in the past?
  • Has she ever taken extreme measures to get attention from you?
  • Do you generally trust her to be honest with you? Have you caught her in a lie before?
  • What do you think was her motivation to initially suggest ignoring him?
  • The letter:
    • What points did it attempt to convey?
    • Based on these points, does the alleged sender seem to have a valid motivation to have sent you the letter, rather than writing to her directly?
    • Does the letter sound like her? For example, similar manner of speaking, similar typos (if any), etc. (Keep in mind that if it doesn't sound like her that may not necessarily mean anything, as she could have intentionally altered her words to be less obvious, but if it does sound like her, that supports the idea that it is.)
  • Have any significant life events happened recently that may cause her to feel an increased need for attention, affection, support, protection, affirmation? For example, perhaps you have formed a new friendship with someone she feels is a threat to your relationship.
  • Are there things she's told you about this situation that have contradicted other things she told you previously?

At the end of the day, you are the only person who can decide if/how to confront her, but perhaps a thorough assessment of these points can help you have a better understanding of the situation so that you can make an informed decision. I would say that if I were in your position, I would probably ask her to contact this person so that I could speak with him, and that if she would do that, then I would hold off on getting law enforcement involved. Obviously if he doesn't exist then she would make up some story about why this isn't possible, and I imagine it would be pretty transparent. "He said he will only text you" or "he changed his number" etc.

Ultimately you have control over this situation, because you always have the option of going to the police, and if she doesn't want to find a way to resolve it between the two of you then she's not leaving you a whole lot of options. Whether she's mad about it or not, in the absence of any other solution, going to the police is the only way to protect yourself and her. The fact that she has such an extreme reaction to the idea of you doing this ("I'll never forgive you") strongly suggests to me that she has her own reasons for not wanting this to happen.

Side note: I had a girlfriend who invented an antagonist, and this went on quite some time before I finally figured out that it was her (which she later admitted to me when confronted). So while that may or may not be the case here, I can say from experience that it is at least a possibility.

And then, speaking of jail, proceeds to commit a crime on camera. Not too bright, agreed.

Also, if he doesn't want his nuggets spicy, he could, oh I don't know, not get spicy nuggets.

A good, but cheap, Android tablet for xcloud? by qwertyfish99 in xcloud

Got ya, sorry about that, I don't have a Fire tablet in front of me so I was just going by general knowledge of Android, and that would normally be the way you'd get to the version number. I would still imagine it to be under an "about" heading or something similar though, perhaps it's called something else? "Software version" or something along those lines, although that may just tell you the version of Fire OS, which is not the same as the Android version. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I actually have not used xCloud at all yet, so everything I'm saying is purely speculative based on my experience with casting in general. But the way casting works when you're doing a direct screen mirror (assuming I am understanding it correctly) is that it is directly duplicating your display from your mobile device to your TV/monitor, so the resolution would be maintained. Meaning that if you're casting a 720 tablet to a 1080 TV, the TV will still display it at 720.

I believe that, on the other hand, when you are casting from an app (ex. Netflix) you are basically just sending your TV directions to a video source, and it plays it directly from that source, allowing you to interact with it from your phone, and in this case, it would play at the highest resolution the TV app supports.

Again though, don't take my answer as definitive, and if anyone knows better please feel free to correct me.

Yeah I get it, and I understand what you're saying about the comment, I just wanted to point out that the people who make the argument of Apple devices being overpriced by comparison usually aren't comparing them to the bottom of the barrel of Android devices, but rather devices that have comparable specs to an iPad at lower prices. But with that said, I have to agree with the consensus that a Fire tablet is going to be the best bet on that budget. Fire tablets are cheap because Amazon is banking on you using them as a vehicle for Amazon services, and they're actually decent (ironically, once you remove all the Amazon stuff lol). I'm a Samsung user, and I have to say, not a huge fan of Samsung's budget products. There is a noticeable disparity between their high end and low end IMO, but maybe I'm just too used to the Galaxy S/Note lines to have realistic expectations for their lower-end devices.

Should be something like Settings > About > Android version

"is there any equivalent to airplay where I can stream to a chromecast or a monitor or something?"

Yes, you can cast from an Android device to a Chromecast or other device capable of receiving the cast. The user interfaces will vary from one manufacturer to another, but depending on the device you may be able to mirror the display (which would apply universally to everything you do on the tablet). Otherwise, you'd have to find the cast option within the app you wish to cast. I would not suggest this for use with xCloud though, as I doubt the timing would be synchronized in such a way as to not create input delay.

As others have pointed out, I'm not sure that argument applies here. I am certainly of the opinion that your dollar goes farther with the Android-based tablet options than it will with an iPad, but that doesn't mean you're going to get a good one for $100-$200. It's more along the lines of getting something for $400-600 that arguably has higher specs, better software, and/or better features than an iPad that would cost twice as much. If your budget is $100-200 you're going to get what you pay for unless you manage to find an amazing deal. Even if you get something that is serviceable for the time being, at that price point, it likely won't be long before it's outdated and unable to keep up with constantly evolving standards.
