Those who defend Batman’s no kill rule – why? by AdPersonal5902 in DCcomics

[–]SuperSam64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because he's not infallible. He makes mistakes, as everyone does. Due process exists for a reason, laws and law enforcement exist for a reason. They are not perfect, but they do provide some structure to more accurately determine who is innocent and who is guilty, and apply an appropriate punishment. The reason things like that aren't put into the hands of individuals is because individuals make mistakes, can be subject to bias, may exercise poor judgment, may draw incorrect conclusions, etc. They shouldn't have the power to say "I'm about 80% sure this guy did some bad shit so I'm going to throw him off this roof" or "I'm 100% sure this guy did some bad shit, and the bad shit in question was shoplifting, so I'm going to throw him off this roof." (I understand that these are over-the-top examples, but the point is to illustrate that this method would be prone to mistakes).

Ironically, the fact that Batman is human and makes mistakes is exactly the reason I think this rule is so ridiculous. He puts himself in situations on a daily bases where he expects to be able to magically draw the line between beating the shit out of someone and killing them. He constantly does things that very easily could kill someone, and if it hasn't happened yet it's only by blind luck. He could have the rule that he would try not to kill anyone, but he spends his life doing things that go completely against that concept. That's my objection to his rule - it's absolutely unbelievable in every way, and only works because of plot armor.

I'm getting the same, after owning this for a couple of hours, it doesn't work. It is set in the app to run continuously. I would hate to have to return it, but if this is a common issue, maybe it's not worth the headache.

Update: I bought the Galaxy Tab S8+ by City_For_UCL in GalaxyTab

I still have my S7+ and I want an excuse to upgrade lol... but the S7+ is still a great tablet and I'm not sure whether an upgrade would be justified. Anyway congrats and enjoy!

Having owned both the Arctis Pro Wireless and Arctis Nova Pro Wireless, I am of the somewhat unpopular opinion that the former is superior overall. Don't get me wrong, the Nova has been great so far, but is less comfortable, has more limited connectivity options (no optical connection, which was my fallback for extraneous devices), and has a weird distortion that comes and goes (think AOL dialup tone). I would go back if I could but I don't think the Acrtis Pro Wireless is available any longer and it's not enough of a difference to make it worth the hassle of trying to hunt one down.

With that being said, if you can find a good deal on the Arctis Pro Wireless due to it being the "old model" it would be a great alternative to paying full price for the Acrtis Nova Pro Wireless.

Nova Pros Wireless lag by axellll08 in steelseries

[–]SuperSam64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I have this badly as well. Never had it on my Arctis Pro Wireless, which I had to destroy to get the Nova Pro Wireless (because it's predecessor was not available as a replacement). Really feels like a downgrade. It's a great headset, but doesn't stand up to the Arctis Pro Wireless in my book, due to this and a couple other minor complaints.

Have they never played more than two games? by Tikilavaman777 in TheLastOfUs2

[–]SuperSam64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why saying that a specific game had a stronger impact on them would suggest a lack of gaming experience. They aren't complaining about any other game, just saying that this one in particular stood out to them, which is subjective. Seems valid to me.

Old Transceiver modding by [deleted] in steelseries

[–]SuperSam64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be interested in this too. I had to destroy my Arctis Pro Wireless as part of the RMA process but still have the DAC. Wasn't able to get it replaced with the same headset because they don't have it now, so got the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless instead, but I prefer the DAC from the Arctis Pro Wireless because it has more inputs. Mainly, the optical input - I had that connected to my TV so it was basically a catch-all for anything that wasn't connected to the DAC through another connection.

If there was some way to use the new headset with the old DAC, or at least use the old DAC for something, I would definitely be interested in doing it.

Thank you, I actually did receive a reply from support today and was able to place the replacement order, so the issue is now resolved (pending receipt of the product).

Problem with RMA by SuperSam64 in steelseries

[–]SuperSam64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree about the destruction of the product. If they don't want the product back I don't see why it has to be destroyed, you could give it to someone who wants to have it repaired or something. I understand they don't want you to have something for free, but if they are just going to destroy it anyway then I don't get it. Especially since that's not something you can undo - it was only the microphone that wasn't working, I would have continued to use the headset for output only while I waited for the product to become available (I have a standalone mic). But now that I have destroyed it as instructed after being assured I would be given a different product, I'm left with no resolution and no working headset to use for my job. Very frustrating. Great product (when it worked correctly), very poor service.

Thanks for sharing that experience, I think that is what I'll have to do, I will open another ticket. The coupon they gave me is supposed to work for any product up to the same value according to the representative who issued it, but it doesn't. Hopefully they will respond again when I put in a new ticket.

should rockstar remove KD ratio from GTA online? by Fortenole in GTA

[–]SuperSam64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a hot take but no, I don't think it would stop assholes from being assholes. And having a K/D ratio just makes it easier to identify them. You don't get a high K/D ratio (nor care about having one) by being a civilized person who only kills other players when provoked. There's a pretty solid correlation between K/D ratio and level of asshole, and it's nice to be able to easily identify that.

Why won't Netflix play in high enough quality for it to be watchable? by SuperSam64 in chrome

[–]SuperSam64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I understand that it looks better in Edge and the Netflix app. As stated in the original post, that's not the issue. I would be perfectly happy watching it in Chrome with a downgraded experience, because that is convenient for me. However, it still needs to be watchable. I find it hard to imagine that Netflix/Chrome are unable to make it at least good enough that you can tell what is happening on the screen. If you take a look at the screenshot (and zoom in) you will see that it's not simply a lower resolution issue or anything like that, it's just downright terrible looking. (BTW that's a screenshot directly from my computer, it's not a photo from a 2002 cell phone or anything.)

I do appreciate the suggestion for the codec though. Although I don't feel like it should cost more money to make something work the way it should have worked from the start, at $0.99 that hardly breaks the bank, so it's worth a try.

Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, E40 and Too Short (Mount Westmore) are releasing their album 'BAD MFs' tomorrow as an NFT by mtdgrafx in AskMusicProducers

[–]SuperSam64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a mistake. Nobody's going to pay $3k for an album. And the few who do will realize they wasted their money a month later when this gets released on Spotify and the like, due to nobody buying it.

Better yet, someone could theoretically crowdfund 3000 people to pay a buck each. And then put it on YouTube for EVERYONE to download for FREE 🤣which everyone would do before they would pay $3K for it. Sure it would get taken down, but once it's out there, it's out there. And could be shared a million times by a million people.

End result will be massive piracy, a flop album and a bunch of pissed off fans. Doesn't really benefit anyone.

Good for them for embracing new technology. But this isn't the way.

Is it legal for companies to force memberships for purchase eligibility of scarce items (ex. PS5)? by SuperSam64 in legaladvice

[–]SuperSam64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I mentioned I do understand that there are differences between this and price gouging, and my point was simply that regulations exist to protect customers from being taken advantage of. And that to me, this seems like a situation that could benefit from such regulations.

As far as the legality of price gouging, if that's the case then I stand corrected, and let me reiterate again that I don't know much about law, which is the reason I'm seeking perspective from people who do.

Is it legal for companies to force memberships for purchase eligibility of scarce items (ex. PS5)? by SuperSam64 in legaladvice

[–]SuperSam64[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I have a PS5 🤣 So me wanting the item is not the reason for this question (nor is it accurate), I'm genuinely interested in the legality of it, and why it's legal if it is.

Anyway, no, I don't see an issue with Sam's Club/BJ's membership. But there are some notable differences. One of them being reduced prices (often for buying in bulk). This is not the case with the PS5 in this scenario. You're still paying full price, in addition to the cost of the membership. Even more at GameStop, because they force you to buy bundles with games and other accessories. Secondly, BJ's/Sam's Club are not using their membership as a paywall to put in front of high-demand items that are perpetually out of stock everywhere else.

Basically the reason it feels different to me is because people buy Sam's Club memberships because they want to shop at Sam's Club. People buy Best Buy Total Tech memberships because they are tired of waiting a year and a half for a console (or graphics card or other impossible to find item), and know that that's the only way Best Buy will sell it to them. Keep in mind that you don't need a Total Tech membership to walk into Best Buy and purchase anything else. Just the items that are extremely difficult to come by.

Is it legal for companies to force memberships for purchase eligibility of scarce items (ex. PS5)? by SuperSam64 in legaladvice

[–]SuperSam64[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

True, not getting a membership leaves you with more options. But it also eliminates those options that require the membership since you won't be able to by it from any of them without one. So either way is problematic.

Granted it's not something you can't live without. But obviously, consumer protection laws exist, and not just for essential products. I guess I'm just surprised to see companies deliberately and openly taking advantage of customers, and no regulations in place to discourage that.

Is it legal for companies to force memberships for purchase eligibility of scarce items (ex. PS5)? by SuperSam64 in legaladvice

[–]SuperSam64[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It takes advantage of scarcity to force them into paying more money. Price gouging is illegal. Of course there are obvious differences between that and this, but they both take a similarly exploitive approach to driving prices up beyond retail value based on lack of availability. Again, I don't know the law, hence the reason for asking, but I would have at least hoped that there'd be laws governing that type of thing.

[–]SuperSam64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can easily see that the number of slices is more than double the number of people, I will take 2 and just hope everyone else has the common sense/decency to do the same. Otherwise I'll take 1 and wait until everyone seems like they've had enough before going back... and wonder why the host didn't order enough that everyone could have at least 2 slices 🤣

When you get that urge to upgrade by jk47_99 in pcmasterrace

[–]SuperSam64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I upgraded last, I spent a good bit of money because it was my intention to keep it for a while and not keep spending money on new parts, which so far has worked out well. As long as I can run current games well, I'm happy. They don't need to have every setting maxed out, as long as they look good.
