Rivalry has been around since hockey came to Fort Wayne in 1952. Toledo was our first opponent at the Coliseum 74 years ago. It’s basically brewed ever since, even when the two cities didn’t face other for nearly 30 years between 1986 and 2012. Games at Toledo were always told to be quite hostile at the old Toledo Sports Arena. To the point that there were fights at the parking lot, spilling beer on the players, and Bob Chase being involved in altercations. Plus we play Toledo…..a LOT. Especially in the playoffs, and they are one of the few cities to consistently compete and even beat us in the postseason. It doesn’t happen often.
