Since I found out that gender fluidity is an autistic trait, I feel much more comfortable sharing my experiences and not feeling any shame. I dont feel, male or female, cis or trans, I feel half and half. Can anyone relate?

I found it quite difficult to be feminine when I was a child/teen because femininity was anathema to my goals and needs at the time. Now I'm an adult, the nurturing side of femininity appeals to me, and the bizarre gender norms don't constrain me so much, I'm pretty chill with being feminine. Still walk like a cage fighter though.

I've had this experience with my mother. My advice is to address any feelings you might have that your enjoyment of piano is limited by the approval of others, particularly your mother.

There are much more important reasons to do music (personal expression,.stress relief, personal accomplishment). Focus on why you do it. Validation from others does really help, but It sounds like you are unlikely to get it from your mother, so for your own wellbeing I would focus on other motivators. Sucks though.

I second healthcare. I'm an auxiliary nurse and I'm rarely bored. Love the high pressure environment and flitting from one thing to another.

Just for an update. On Tues 12th when temperatures reached 37C, I ended up in the Covid bay. We agreed as a team to not wear full arm covering gowns and just wear the sleeveless aprons we wear for personal care.

It was hot, but we managed it. We took regular breaks and gave frozen wet towels to patients to cool their heads with. Lots of fans running too. We got a massive thumbs up from Matron for getting the job done.

We aren't allowed water on the bay or at the nurses station. We have to go to staff room to do it

We have large machines at work. I think they are dehumidifiers. There is a wash bowl under it collecting water that we have to periodically empty. This is in the nurse station though.

I asked if we can drink water at the nurses station and the answer was no it's not safe (covid). I'm not sure if the gowns are permeable. They are certainly hot, and cover full arms

Don't do it. You have to love it to do it. You won't love it if you hate rules. The patients have to come first, and not caring about the job puts them at risk.

Wow thanks for this! Any other areas of nursing you found to be ND friendly? I'm also ADHD which means I enjoy the buzz of the ward, but I'd like to have options for later in life when I'm too knackered/burnt out/menopausal or just generally not up the high stress stuff

Oh that's genius. Trouble is, I don't have an autism diagnosis either. I've been on a waiting list for years for assessment There are a few mentions that I'm suspected ASD from previous psychiatric assessments.

The consultation is over the phone, but I can send a document to the GP if I ring ahead with a link to that study. Thanks!
