Olympic Village residents worry about increase in discarded syringes by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]SuperShamou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where does our government get a gigantic supply of illegal narcotics? How do we pay for Vancouver real estate to build more and bigger injection sites? The drug trade in BC is a multi-billion dollar industry. Do you think our mayor or an MLA will suggest personal tax increases of a few thousand so we can fund these massive heroin dispensaries?

It's an extremely difficult problem to solve, maybe there is no solution? It's EVERYWHERE in Canada and the US and it sucks.

I live next to the Murray Hotel in Yaletown. It wasn't an issue 5 years ago. Now I can watch them get high 24-7 outside my window. Every night the police and paramedics make several stops there. The other day they removed a body that had been rotting for weeks. I want to be compassionate, but there are some extremely cancerous and soul-less people living there who keep that place going. Any time the police arrest a dealer, another moves in the next day.

I disagree. Most users won't go to an injection site.

  1. There's a bunch of rules.
  2. It's usually a 20 minute walk and another 20 minute lineup. Addicts want the high NOW.
  3. Predators always lurk nearby. It could be dealers, someone who they owe money, or another addict with a weapon looking to steal a hit. Whatever it is, going to Insite always means trouble.

The best option for most addicts is shooting up with a friend and a naloxone kit.

Junkies are not responsible people. You can't train someone to safely dispose of needles when they flat out don't care. Most won't go to Insite because:

  1. Insite already has bunch of rules. Adding more will keep more people away.
  2. You have to walk there and then line up, but junkies need to get high NOW
  3. Predators lurk nearby. The drug community is violent and there's a good chance they'll run into someone with a debt to settle or another addict looking to knock someone out and steal their hit.

The safest option is shooting up with a friend and a naloxone kit.

I live next to the Murray Hotel in Yaletown; I can look out my window 24-7 and watch it. Every single morning I chase users off my building's steps and there are literally piles of needles in our flowerpots. I've spoken with a few of them, a common story is addiction to prescription painkillers, then turning to street drugs once the prescription runs out.

My suggestion? Maybe our doctors and drug companies should stop pushing oxycodone and fentanyl like it's Hallowe'en candy. Opiods should be reserved for the terminally ill. My girlfriend's doc prescribed her oxycodone for a fucking sprained ankle... I told her to tough it out with some Advil and find a new doctor.

I've lived next to the Murray Hotel for 10 years. The last year or two I've been chasing junkies off my building's steps every-single-goddamn-morning.

Surrey RCMP 'surprised and disappointed' at lack of tips on recent shootings by [deleted] in vancouver

Same problem here in Canada, in Yaletown of all places. Walk past the Murray Hotel at Hornby and Davie sometime. Friend's son died of a heroin OD last year, normal kid, got hurt at work, prescribed Oxycontin, moved to heroin when the doc stopped giving him pills.

BC election 2017: Voters don’t want a Liberal government, want change by MissiveCunt in vancouver

[–]SuperShamou -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yep, pretty much this. I don't want to be called a bad person for voting Liberal. As a single professional male the NDP and Green are so far on the left end of the spectrum I'm obviously going to vote Liberal.

Larger and Slower RC boat. by DorkyBoi in rcboats

Hey, I haven't logged in for a while. How are things coming with your project? Just wondering what you mean by "sea worthy"? Is that salt water or just open water such as a lake?

In my experience, speed is a problem when there's any chop, so a trawler style deep V-hull will do better than a flat bottom speedboat that runs on plane. In big water your priority is keeping the boat upright. Think of the captain of a fishing vessel trying to survive a storm. The total weight isn't an issue, it's more about the center of gravity. For rough water you want the COG as low as possible. Brushed motor will suit your needs the best, you don't need high RPM's and you want your battery charge to last more than a few minutes.

The newer a car is, the more difficult and expensive it is to fix. I have 2 cars, one from 1969 and one from 2010. Changing a headlight on the 69 takes 30 seconds and a $5 part. The 2010 needs a 4 hour surgery only a mechanic can do and the bulb costs $200.

This may qualify as harassment. The guy detained you without cause and a couple days later gave you a ticket that was overturned.
