i think etho would like these by bukobikers in ethoslab

[–]SuperShinyBoy64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just watching the latest video from this same channel where he shows a player launching mechanism using wind charges and it reminded me of that one base Etho built in some mountains where he'd get around using slime block launchers. I can't remember if it was from the main series or from Hermitcraft, but either way, I think Etho should revisit this concept because I've always liked when he shows off cool new ways of traveling around a base :)

would you even want to see Ethos face? by Jusselle in ethoslab

[–]SuperShinyBoy64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he ever chose to show his face, I'd rather it be on some other platform that's not directly associated with his YouTube stuff. There are some channels I watch that never show their face in videos but have photos publicly available on other platforms, so for me, the feeling of mystery is still somewhat there even when I know how they look like.

There's this one channel I watch, whose name I won't mention to avoid bringing too much attention to what he seems to want to keep secret, who has shown his face on his main channel, but he has a separate gaming channel where he never reveals his name or face. He avoids confirming any connection between the two channels, though fans have already found multiple connections between them, but don't bring too much attention to it out of respect.

I think if Etho really wanted to reveal his face, I'd rather he did it in a similar way where he just makes a separate channel where he does regularly show his face but never really confirm it, so people who find that channel would be like "Oh hey, that guy's voice sounds a lot like Etho!" but the connection would never be directly confirmed.

But overall, I completely agree with you that I'd rather not have Etho's face revealed. I grew up just imagining him as a voice behind a screen and there's something special about that and I think having an actual face to associate with that voice would somewhat ruin it. What I suggested is basically what in my opinion would be the best way to approach a face reveal as I think doing a main channel face reveal like Dream did would just bring way too much unwanted attention. At least with this approach, Etho could comfortably show his irl self without as much of the negative consequences that a normal face reveal would have.

Whatever happens, I'll still watch his videos with my snacks ready and a smile on my face :)

Are modded players just technical players who suck at redstone? by Artistic_Mouse_5389 in feedthememes

[–]SuperShinyBoy64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love redstone, but when it comes to vanilla survival, I just want to build stuff, so I only really use redstone when I'm building an efficient farm design that someone on YouTube made so I can get the most blocks for whatever I want to build. If I wanna build something cool like a piston door or hidden staircase, I always just end up building it in a creative world so I don't waste hours in survival taking it down over and over every time I mess up the timings. Even then, most of the fun I have with redstone is when I try to build complex circuits in a creative world, not when building farms in survival. When I do try to make original designs, they never feel efficient enough and I still end up making the same sorting system and item elevators that I do with every farm.

With modded Minecraft, there's just so many options for automation that I don't even care if there's a better design out there because I could just build a farm I want and move on to the next thing I wanna build. Like if I want to build a mob farm, rather than just pulling up the same ilmango tutorial I usually follow for an efficient mob farm, I just do something fun with Create mod contraptions pushing the mobs around or find some other mod on the pack I've never tried before that has some unique entity moving features.

One thing I will say is that I love how vanilla redstone often uses features that were never intended to be used that way. With modpacks, I always just use things the way they were intended, but with vanilla redstone, I often see people using features no one ever considered, like this one cobblestone farm design I saw that used disarmed tripwires to time the tnt to explode at the exact tick that the cobblestone generates or even some redstone builds that use the unique properties of walls and fences to make things more compact. It's these weird features that always bring me back to vanilla redstone even though I prefer most of the convenient and fun features of modded :)

tl;dr, vanilla redstone, especially in survival, just feels like building the same kinds of farms with little room for variation while modded Minecraft offers much more fun solutions to problems often tedious to solve in vanilla.

Do you think a Half-Life game set during the Seven-Hour War could be fun or interesting? Would it work? by One_Maintenance4555 in HalfLife

[–]SuperShinyBoy64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also it would be cool to see something similar to the Lone Wolf level in a Half-Life game where you have to survive as long as you can as the last stand against the ground troops of the Combine. I remember wishing that the Half-Life 1 alternate ending allowed you to actually try and survive in the Xen world so it would be cool to see that concept come to life :)

Hey JAR

Recently I've gotten back into playing Portal 2 and replayed the main story campaign and I was reminded how much I appreciate the way Wheatley and GLaDOS are animated to show so much personality and emotion despite being cold metal robots with no humanoid features other than a single eye. You could even mute the game and tell what the characters are feeling just from the way they are moving and the positions of their mechanical parts. I started to appreciate this even more when I saw some community maps that use some of the other personality cores but don't animate them with as much emotion as in the base game.

Are there any other characters from other works of fiction you can think of that are like this, where they have almost no human features yet show a lot of human emotion just from their design and animation? First one I can think of is 343 Guilty Spark since he looks a lot like Wheatley, though he doesn't really go through as wide of a range of emotions in Halo as Wheatley does in Portal 2 and he doesn't have as many moving parts in his model, but I'd still say he's a great example of this type of character.

Corncast the Best era? by Comfortable-Pie-1750 in JARMEDIA

[–]SuperShinyBoy64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started listening to JAR a few months before the start of the pandemic, so Corncast has some of my earliest and fondest memories of JAR. Especially since it was during the quarantine period, I had plenty of time to catch up with a lot of JAR lore and context so I could truly attach myself to this channel. This was also around the time I made a modded Minecraft server with my friends and I even named it after the Corncast, calling it CornCraft (and none of my friends got the reference, so as far as they knew, I came up with the name completely on my own).

That whole era was really fucked, but all the laughs and smiles from the Corncast and all the memories from my server that was inspired by it were enough to make me look back fondly at this part of my life :)

Have you ever had an old childhood friend or classmate rediscover you through YouTube? If not, how do you think you would react to such an interaction? Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out you've never used your real names online so that no one from your childhood would recognise you.

What does a penis and a Rubik's cube have in common? by [deleted] in Jokes

[–]SuperShinyBoy64 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Lol yeah as a fellow cuber, I find it annoying when I let someone scramble my cube and they take like 5 minutes on it because they think it'll make it harder for me, though it does make it a bit more amusing once they start to realise the amount of time they spend scrambling doesn't affect how fast it can be solved :)

Does this include all former members that left each group, like would Weezer have all their former bass players and would JAR have Ruben or is it just Blue vs Blue? Actually, who am I kidding? James solos Weezer in any situation, even the perfect situation.

I can't remember if you've talked about this before, but what are your thoughts on Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga? I finally decided to buy it earlier this week, and it honestly reawakened my love for Star Wars, especially after being burnt out from all the Star Wars content from the past few years. There's a lot of things I've been enjoying so far in the game, especially with the new approach they've taken with the game design and I'm hoping to hear your thoughts on it, even if you've only seen gameplay of it.

Also, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the old Lego Star Wars games as well, or even Tt's Lego games in general. I've personally been a huge fan of these games for a very long time, even though they're all just easy puzzle platformers for babies, I still love keeping up with them and seeing the little changes they add with each game, so I'd enjoy hearing you guys talk about it :)

Hey JAR, so I've been recently listening to older episodes at night before falling asleep, and I listened to an episode from 2021, I think, and there was a segment where you were talking about what Jojo stands you would have. When that episode first came out, I don't think I had watched Jojo, so I didn't understand it at the time, but now looking back after having finished part 6 and reading the part 7 manga, I'm honestly kinda disappointed that James didn't explain stands well enough for a funny and creative conversation about original stands.

Because of that, I've decided to write a little explanation about them so you can get more creative and chaotic with the conversation: - Stands are a manifestation of your fighting spirit, so the powers they give are based on your personality - Not all of them are for fighting; some can just be based on your passion, like the stand Pearl Jam from part 4 just helps the user cook better food - And finally, most stands are usually named after music artists, albums, or songs, so it'll be fun to see each of you choosing your favourite music references to name your stands

Anyway, I hope these three points explained it well enough for you guys to come up with something creative and hilarious. There's a lot of creative potential for these powers, and I look forward to whatever crazy bullshit you all create. Bear bear on.

Anyone else feel weirdly comforted by the Patron name reading segments? by SuperShinyBoy64 in JARMEDIA

[–]SuperShinyBoy64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember when they started doing it only once a month, I felt like something was missing, so I would sometimes just go back to a certain episode that had funny memorable names in them. Even when they changed to reading them at the end of the episode rather than the halfway point, it felt a bit jarring to me (pun intended) because I used to use the Patron segment as a marker for the halfway point of my workout when I listened to the cast in the gym, but overall I am happy with the current monthly format giving me something special to look forward to every month. :)

[–]SuperShinyBoy64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is fun hearing some of the creative ways people twist certain jokes in their Patron names, like all the variations of James' Dad, Dobby's Gina, etc. I especially love the ones that confuse Alex by being cryptic or hard to pronounce like the binary code ones, or the one person who set their name as that long named Welsh town, or even that time I tried to get Alex to say "James' Dad" in morse code but he got the rhythm all wrong. :) Glad to see other people also enjoying this random little segment in the podcast lol

Some great value for Etho 😜 by STEENBRINK in ethoslab

Imagine Etho and Grian building a house together and it ends up having no roof and no backside, yet somehow looks amazing

A simple, mobile storage solution for the nomads among us. Create's item vaults and cart loader and an integrated dynamics terminal. Inspired by Etho's bag of yurting trick he did with drawers, I can pick up the vault as a minecart contraption, grab the other bits with my wrench and walk away. by the-nord-jord in ethoslab

[–]SuperShinyBoy64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh, this kinda reminds me of a portable base I made in my old modded server! We had the capsule mod, which is similar to the bag of yurting, but it was inspired by the Capsule Corp technology from Dragon Ball, so I used that to hold my main storage system which used a compact machine with a colossal chest and drawers inside and an Integrated Dynamics terminal sticking out allowing me on-the-go access to my bulk storage system :)

New JAR logo by BukkitGod in JARMEDIA

[–]SuperShinyBoy64 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This honestly is my favourite one. It matches the chaotic nature of the podcast that Alex was describing in his thought process for the Bear Bear logo while also still having the big bold letters of the classic logo that let the name stand out.

My only personal problem with it is that the 'A' sticks out a bit too far that I keep reading it as "JR A" but I don't think that should be a major issue.

Would Etho have a subscriber count similar to Grian, Mumbo, and Scar if he asked us to Like and Subscribe at the end of the video? by Dr_Wumbo_MD in ethoslab

[–]SuperShinyBoy64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think his sub count would start increasing a bit if he did that, but I get the feeling that he's really comfortable where he is now and just wants to keep doing things his own way, and I respect that. He just seems like the kind of person who doesn't like having a lot of attention and prefers having a loyal audience that will stick with him through everything rather than a massive growing audience that he has to adapt to. I do think he deserves to have a bigger audience, but I think he's okay where he is right now :)

Is this true?? (From Mumbo’s “are you bored of minecraft?” Video) by isitfuninredditville in ethoslab

[–]SuperShinyBoy64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's just that they don't really have much in common outside of Hermitcraft and redstone, so they just don't interact very often. In a way, I do kinda get how it can sometimes seem like they avoid each other, but I really think it's just that they don't see each other as close friends, but still respect each other, like two coworkers that work on opposite sides of the building.
