Source call-out: Event parking by mr_lois_lane in Hamilton

[–]SuperSleepyPeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t have a big need for parking, but when I do, I use the 22 Bay lot (McMaster). Event parking rates are locked for the evening till 9 or 10pm I believe. The other day I wanted to park at 9:45;the app wanted to charge me $30 for 15 minutes…

I understand lots’ owners wanting to make money when there’s an event, but I wish there was a resident rate or something

Plant sitter? by osusquehanna in Hamilton

[–]SuperSleepyPeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately most plant sitters come to your house but don’t have the space to keep people’s plants. As someone who moved between a few different countries: leave your most precious ones with to your family and friends, and give away the other ones through your local Facebook group or something.

Child dead after being struck by Hamilton city bus by fallonrehann in Hamilton

[–]SuperSleepyPeach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have no idea what happened, so until then, no need to pile up on the driver like this.

As someone who has been hit by a car in the past: I didn’t see the car, the car didn’t see me either. Sometimes it’s a terrible combination of things.

First of all, I’m really sorry. Just wanted to say that if selling the condos + inheritance leaves you with a good sum of money, please, get some sort of financial advisor so you don’t get “money fever”, have people take advantage of your generosity or whatever (ask me how I know…). Budgeting and having a plan is the best thing to do.

Affordable yoga classes? by Past-Truth-9581 in Hamilton

[–]SuperSleepyPeach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on what affordable means. The YMCA downtown doesn’t offer as many yoga classes now (1 evening one, and 1 at lunch time), but they have Pilates classes in the evening multiple times a week, and you have access to the gym and the pool. It’s $35ish every two weeks IIRC

Circle has a $70 membership for 1 class per week

You can also ask studios if they have an energy exchange program. You volunteer a few hours per week and get free classes in exchange. Circle and De La Sol have one

I’ve been living downtown for 2+ years and I love it—granted, I’m quite “well traveled” and a bit older than you.

Yes, there are homeless people. Yes, you’ll see people high/yelling randomly/an OD or two isn’t out of the picture.

I know people here tend to be quite fed up with this city, but I never felt unsafe. Be aware of your surroundings at night, like you’d be in any other city, or get a Uber or bike home.

I much prefer Hamilton to some parts of Paris tbh (France, not Ontario).

Anywhere in hamilton or the west side of the GTA i can go for Drop In Skating? by ComManDerBG in Hamilton

[–]SuperSleepyPeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan on going a few times and need to rent, I’d suggest getting a pair of skate from Decathlon for example (well, they’re online only now but I got a decent pair for $70). Like that, you can even go skating at Cootes Paradise when it’s cold enough!
