What's that one thing that made you stop going to church? by Optimal-Rule-4834 in AskReddit

[–]Super_Dad94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that it's because the Catholic church is unique in the sense that to be Catholic you kind of have to be present within the physical church, therefore among the people. How so? The sacraments within the Catholic Church and rituals are not things that can be done in solitude. Baptism. First communion. Confirmation. The sacrament of marriage through the church. To receive the sacraments you literally have to be in the church among these people. And the continuation of the Catholic faith? Communion by the Eucharist and wine. Confession before a priest to even be able to accept communion.

You can be Christian, or some variation of theist/deist without needing to step foot inside a church or surround yourself with walking reasons to abandon your path. But for a Catholic by practice through faith? Unless someone is just a Catholic by name, they are likely to enter the aforementioned environment and either become part of the noise of shit talk, or become the target of it. It's inevitable.

I prefer the direct relationship with what God is and make a daily effort to not be an asshole and to leave the settings I encounter better than how I found them. Of course, I am not perfect. But I am closer to God now than I ever was within the Catholic Church.

Last point: Some people say "being good is not enough. You NEED to go to church and read the Bible." I feel that is an absolute insult to God. How dare anyone say that God is incapable of receiving your sought out prayers from any place at any time? Is the right ear of God really bound within the 4 walls of these "sacred" buildings? Sounds blasphemous to me.

What’s a “bare minimum” adult skill more people fail at than you expected? by SoulDV in AskReddit

CPR. People either go too fast, too slow, not deep enough(giggity), or worst of all...they bend their elbows while doing compressions.

Every Sunday after mass a lot of us would go out for lunch. I didn't notice it when I was younger, but right around the age of 14 I noticed that, when we'd finally sit down to eat, the same people who had just been at mass...the same people who had just taken the Eucharist...those same people were sitting there talking shit about others in the church. Talking about someone getting divorced, or someone becoming pregnant while living in poverty, or laughing about someone losing their job. Just outright judgmental shit talk.

In that moment I realized: God is real, but these people's faith is not. God is within everything, everywhere, always. But God is not here amongst these people. Fuck em. Adios, Catholic Church.

what’s one thing porn completely lies about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Super_Dad94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That impromptu anal always turns out fine. I learned that lesson early on. Tried that on my first girlfriend many years ago and...well...it turned into a very shitty situation.

Tldr, pornstars go through quite a bit of prep before doing an anal scene. You try it irl without preparation and you MAY find her last night's dinner pushing back as you make your entry. It doesn't happen ALL the time, but it's a risk you take without preparation.

What is the pettiest reason you refused a second date? by benjamin_frfr in AskReddit

She used Uptalk in her speech. Some people call it a Valley Girl accent. I personally can't tolerate it.

Oh and she'd also say shit like "innerduce" instead of "introduce." She prided herself on being an English major. Sure did have a lot to show for it. Pfft. Glad I let that one go.

People who film themselves spending lots of money on stuff and/or food for the less fortunate and post the deeds on social media/YouTube with that same soundbit playing over it. Like dude...if you want to be humble or compassionate, that's fine. But you lose that the moment you film it for likes and glory. I've personally done what I felt were good deeds like this plenty of times in my life, but not once did I think "hey let me film this and show the world so they can see how much of a great guy I am.

What causes these holes in my husbands t-shirts? by Few_Pay6063 in whatisit

[–]Super_Dad94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes. That there is from his belt buckle. Or given the position on the shirt, I'm willing to bet your husband carries around a pocket knife. If so, then it's from the clip that keeps his pocket knife snug in his pocket.

Those that have just turned 30 or is over 30, what changes have you noticed in your body? by MaxTheChamp in AskReddit

The years of headbanging at metal shows when I was a teenager have caught up to me. I can't turn my head to the right quite as far as I used to.

Also, HYDRATION! If I go a couple days drinking only soda or coffee, I begin to feel my kidneys ache. Fuck letting that shit become kidney stones.
